leXX
Have you played this game all your life? NO This means that you too were once a newbie. Try to remember how that felt. Calling someone a newbie isn't even a put down. I know plenty of "new to the game" people who kick butt without using any special moves so give it a rest already. I remember when I didn't know a thing and I'm sure you do too. How do I do that lighting thing? How do I do the name colour thing etc etc. Well how did you learn it, you read the forums and visted web sites and asked questions no doubt. If you think someone lacks skill, say "you lack skill", don't call them a newbie. Bashing newbies is just lame. I for one try to help them because I remember how it felt when I had a bunch of questions and no answers. Yes it can be annoying when you constantly get asked questions but there is absolutely no need to be rude about it. Simply type "check out lucasforums.com" and leave it at that. MediocreSlacker
Yeah Lexx you newb! Anyways I would like to see a list ordering the most angry boards in lucasforums. I'll bet this one would be in the top ten. We've already had at least two moderators come and yell at us. I like newbs. They tend to be nice and say thank you when you help them. Although there are some foul-mouthed angry newbs out there too. You know what? This game has been a rude awakening for me. I used to play the first JK on the Zone and I was way better than everyone I played. So, young and foolish, I thought that I would be fantastic at playing JK2 as well. Little did I realize that I was basically always playing newbs on the Zone. It was quite a letdown. I have no idea why I just related that story. Oh yeah! It's because now I realize that trying to always be the best is stupid and stressful. People should stop being so extremely competitive (which often involves newb bashing) and just HAVE FUN. It's not that hard. slacker
zenroth
I generally dont newbie bash, or even use the word, though I must admit last night I did use the word. Mostly being I joined a server(duel) and the top players where at -1 ping for about 3 minutes and thus everyone was frozen. Almost everyone on the server was like what the hell? In which I proceeded to call them a bunch of newbs with a lol after it and explained what was going on Otherwise the word has no meaning to me other than I seem to get called it from time to time. zenroth
MediocreSlacker I couldnt agree more with you, I use to be a really really serious and competive player in JKII , I would get pissed if someone didnt bow, or was lame, etc. Now adays I hardly ever play a serious game, I play just for the fun of playing, if someone doesnt bow oh well. If they DFA me while my saber is down and im typeing them I laugh at it. Of course being non-serious has led me to not get as many kills or win all the maps, but people can tell when i get serious(the playing around, teaseing and messing around dies and people die very very quickly.) Overall becomeing non-serious was the greatest move ive ever made in JKII

Elegy
I dunno, to me a newb isn't someone who's inexperienced to the game. I kinda follow the same motto alot of us follow at another one of my forums. I mod there, and most of the staff pretty much considers a newb to be someone who is incredibly stupid and immature. There's a difference between a newcomer and a newb. A newcomer won't know certain things, but they're still intelligent. They'll take the time to soak up whatever slivers of info they can, and they have enough tact to generally remain polite and pick up on the way that everyone around them does things. A newb on the other hand, is generally classified as an obnoxious person. They either like to purposefully cause trouble and arguements, or they're so stupid that after months and months of being there they still haven't learned a damn thing. We've got members there who have been there for over a year. Some of them even longer than I have. And you know what? They're still a newb. You're right, we shouldn't bash newcomers who come in and are honestly asking a question or two and trying to learn how things are. You gotta start somewhere and you're certainly not born with all of life's knowledge. You gotta learn things. But I just thought I'd point out the distinctions between a newcomer and a newb. knyte
I think people get labeled as "newb" not because they are new to the game, lack skill, whatever. I think people are labeled "newb" because they are arrogant about skillz they dont have. They call people names, they accuse the experienced players of cheating, things like that. Its usually pretty easy to tell just by the way someone moves how long they have been playing FPSes/JK specifically, but not all of them attempt to chalk up being killed by the best on the server to their opponent cheating. The ones that are just starting out that KNOW they need practice usually either take the beating and try again -OR- they politely ask the person "Hey, howd you do that?". Its the people that get killed and immediately return with "OMFG, fag, cheater, youre hacking!" that are labeled as newbs, which in my opinion is a lot more fair nickname than they should be given.... leXX
This is my point: Idiots, spammers, a$$fighters, arrogant fools, bigheads etc etc etc all get labelled [newb] [n00b] [newbie]. It is well known to all that a newbie is someone new to the game and calling idiots a newbie is a way to insult them so when you call an idiot a newbie, you are insulting "new to the game people". Redwing
lexx is right, you know. Too many people (on these forums too) use "n00b" as a sort of curse. The only reason I've seen it used is to try and humiliate people. I see Ike isn't limiting his presence to "ye old forumms"
