Divine Spirit
I used to watch the X Files a lot! i was a massive fan! But then i stopped watching it for a short while and there was all this thing about Mulder going and Dogget coming and i still dont know what happened! So now its hard to watch it because im not sure whats going on - thats if the episode is based on the overall storyline, if u get what i mean. The first few series' were the best anyway! Kyth'emos
The last episode was actually fairly good IMO. But in genral all the episodes I saw after Mulder left sucked.
MotionMan
X-Files was at its best when every weeks episodes didnt have anything to do with the previous weeks episode. After the Movie came out it went downhill. Every episode after that it was one big story. I miss the old days when one week you got to see bigfoot and the next week you saw The freak that lived in the sewer, next week it was the firestarter, then inter-mating deformed hillbilies...ect. They used to focused on individul stories from various true to life sources. Some were made up but the rest was all actual stories of events that were reported to have happned in various parts of the world.

Yeah, when a Sci-fi show turns into a soap opra thats usually when it is heading to hell. Same thing with Star Trek: Voyager and DS9.
Darth Groovy
I used to love the x-files, I think it ranks amoung the best Sci-Fi that ever hit TV. However after a whilem I lost interest in the series because it just kept getting too weird and there were too many subplots, and the whole mythology story just spiraled out of control. As much of an ass as David Duchovny is, I hate to admit that I loved "Spooky" Moulder and it was too hard to watch episodes without him. I think that really killed the series. I had too hard of a time watching Dogget because I kept wating for his head to morph into a giant pick axe or something. That guy was so creepy in T2 that I have difficulty seeing him as anything other than a villian. He is really not much of an actor anyway. Not to change the subject, but right now I am playing X-files on the PSONE, and despite what the critics thought of it.....I am having a blast playing it. It's the perfect interactive puzzle game, it's creepy and just play fun. It kind of reminds me of those "choose your own adventure" books I used to read as a kid! P.S. I missed the last episode.......what happened?

What Chris Carter called the "Mythology" episodes, are those tied to the greater storyline, weren't all that good in my opinion. The quirky sometimes funny, sometimes scary, random episodes were the ones I always enjoyed a great deal and where the reason I continued to watch the show for so many years. RpTheHotrod
Yeah..after Mulder left, the episodes got plain corny. Last one was fairly good. Just to spoil everything, the Lone Gunmen died I think 2 episodes before the last, by saving thousands of people. They chased a human "virus bomb" into a room, and closed the doros, but were stuck inside with him. Doggett was actually a good character...same with agent Reyes (Sp?), but....still...the X-Files lost it's X-Files touch when Mulder left. The X-Files was a great series in the beginning, because you saw a cool, different episode every week, but the OCCASIONAL great story-line episodes (maybe for every 10 normal episodes, there was a story episode)...but eventually...it became a long...dragged out story. At the end, Mulder realizes that only one thing can save mankind, God. (Mulder and Scully even ended up in the same setting as when they first met...in that hotel room, sitting in the same potitions.)
Darth Groovy
So Moulder comes back in the end and finds God? That is great, but um a really lame end for the X-Files. My favorite one was "Tombs" Anyone ever see that one? Not to get off subject but has anyone ever played "X-Files" for Playstation? I am playing it at work on my PSONE and I absolutely love it!!!!!! I bought this game used for like $10 dollars and I have already got about $50 worth of joy out of it!
RpTheHotrod
Tombs was a good one. Home was the WORST one. (I think it was called home, the hill-billy hick one) Yes...he finds out the EXACT date when the alien invasion will take place and where the government will be hiding. He then realizes, he wants to believe in something higher than the conspiracy, than the government, a higher power (as he reaches out and touches the cross on skully's neck)...then he go into cuddle mode and it fades to black. Scully also gave up her son to adoption after they removed the alien aprt of the baby. Mulder finds God at the end....yes. (Which IS an interesting ending) Cigarette Smoking Man (Cancer Man) also dies on the final episode by a rocket fired by a helicopter. The government also believes Mulder is dead near the end of the episode...but he's alive.

Now that I really do want to see! I know what one you are talking about.....like Beverly Hillbillies meets the Adamm's Family with mama-under-the-bed? Awful. Also alful was "The Field where you Died." Moulder gets possesed by a person with multiple personalities. The result? Some of the worst David Duchovney acting I have ever seen! P.S. It's ok if the Loan Gunmen died......the show they had was the stupidest thing I had ever seen!

But did you realise that just before the movie came out, they consolidated a few of those supposed random story lines and made them link into "Colonisation".... Used to watch it, would never miss it, then all of a sudden it stopped appearing on TV here in Australia, then by the time it came back I wasn't as interested. Then it went missing on Aussie TV again, so over the last 2 years it has been hard to get to watch any X Files....... Trust No One!!!!!!!
leXX
I used to be a huge fan of X-files purely for the unexplained aspect of it. Scully's acting leaves a lot to be desired and always bothered me and as most of you have said, since Mulder left, it has become lame and I never watch in anymore! Such a shame, it's used to be such a great series, I wish they could have done something more with it.
Clem
i used to watch it on n off but .... the unexplained end really used to annoy me! so i stopped btw. lexx ur not turning into camus with yer sig are u?

StormHammer
I too was an avid fan of the X-files, but the BBC's tactics of moving the show to a new slot every other week, supposedly to 'improve ratings', actually had the opposite effect, so I missed lots of episodes, and just stopped watching it. I agree the grand story arc just got completely out of control, and there were never any really satisfactory answers. I actually like Robert Patrick (Doggett), in the few episodes I've seen recently, but I think the show has just gone on too damned long. They should have finished it in the 7th season, in my opinion, tying up all the loose ends, and been thankful for that long a run. Then onto the movie franchise... The old saying holds weight here, I think...'Familiarity breeds contempt', and as stated above, when a creative show exploring interesting ideas becomes more of a soap, it's on it's last legs. The first few seasons will always be the strongest, in my mind, because everything was still relatively fresh and new, and you didn't know which new twists and turns would be thrown at you. Lastly, I think making the movie at the end of season 5 was a mistake. They should have waited until the very end before switching to movie format - and probably should have done what the Star Trek movies did...focus on a new self-contained story. I guess the 7 year format for a series should really be considered the limit, unless it's a TV soap, which they can churn out for countless years (God help us). To be brutally honest, I think five seasons would have been enough for the X-Files, and the same would probably suffice for other series too, hopefully forcing a tighter rein on story arcs, and bringing a series to a meanginful conclusion - going out with a bang - rather than drifting into obscurity...
