JerAir1587249581
There is a new Hard disk (not yet released) called a sugar cube. (yes, a sugar cube)it is the size of a die and can store a terrabyte of data!!! (a terrabyte is a thousand gigabytes) It uses holographic light interference to store data. A computer expert told me about this and I don't know when it will be released so keep a lookout for it!

leXX
no, I believe this could be true. There are a hell of alot of things in development that would blow your mind away and I heard about holographic hard disks somewhere! I think it may have been on Tommorows World a while back. Clem
i stand corrected .... but some of the other techniques on that page look more interesting

Kyth'emos
Just because it is in development doesant mean it has been refined enough to be usable.... or more imortantly affordable.
teutonicknight
Oooo, cool.... How big is a sugar cube anyway? A square inch?

You watch Tommorows World too on Tech Tv? Anyway, did you know they are able to have your eye be the "mouse" of the computer. So much for hand-eye cordination.. God...we might be able to make robots as brilliant as men(no lie) if we have a HUGE(Huge as in Terabyte is the same as a byte) memory bank in a computer, and if we use the theroy we have no souls, but we are really trillions of bytes in our brain,we can have robots even better than us. Scary, aint it? Terminator 1 and 2 might predict the future, not the time travling though...what's done is done, and cant be changed..
thehomicidalegg
interesting....but i'll be a lot more excited when they actually make it
Clem
u will note its nowhere near ready ... its not even rewritable but the millipede on that page looks interesting
Kstar__2
too bad all of this stuff (especialy the millipede) won't be around until 2010 or something like that
JerAir1587249581
Oh yeah, a thousand terabytes is a penabyte. That's a million Gigabytes!(correct me if I'm wrong)
Clem
1 thing .... all of these are slightly wrong in reality there are 1024 bytes in a kB 1024 kB in a MB 1024 MB in a GB 1024 GB in a TB 1024TB in a .... PB im pretty sure it isnt penabyte .... but it begins with p im sure u all knew this and this is y u often get 2 diff size readings for HDD's and Floppys
JerAir1587249581
well, I don't know what 1024 penabytes is Maybe you do Darth clem!
Clem
think its pentabytes .... and no i dont know what the next installment is its not used much
Kyth'emos
Another probalem.... can you imagine the speed you would need to make a terabyte hard drive useably fast ?
Clem
lets get 1 thing straight its FARR from ready only 1GB has been made this size and that wasnt rewritable (assuming lexxs info is up to date which im sure it is )
JerAir1587249581
well, it is far from release date but they wil probably make something up for the speed and who knows... maybe this year...
Clem
VERY unlikely to be in the nxt 5 years im afraid jer ... not if its still in the testing stage
JerAir1587249581
Maybe, maybe not. Just wait
Clem
think of it they have to make it actually take a Terabyte (a gig wont sell!) they have to make it rewritable (which could take AGES!) they have to make it reliable (another long 1) they have to make up a manufacturing process for it ... they have to make it affordable
