Trillian....

Oh yeah! User since v7.0.

It's the instant messaging program that'll let you talk to people on every im network, through Trillian. (So you don't have to have AIM and ICQ running at the same time, for example.) Heck, it'll even check your email like MSN or Yahoo Messenger if you have Yahoo mail.

You can grab it at: http://www.trillian.cc

Try having it on whilst you are playing something...preferably hosting a game (which I do for a game that I play)

That thing sucks your connection up like nothing else, and if you're unlucky to have some lower WinOS it'll **** your recourses so much, your comp will beg for a reset.

But getting by all that, it's compatibility is total crap. I heard like from 15 people I know they used Trillian, that they had to revert because it was totally screwed. Didn't ask em about all the faulties, but they said it had ALOT.

At least with the separate programs I can keep only one of them (or all 4) up...preferably MSN or AIM because they don't suck my bandwidth...

Well I might give it a try, but anything has got to be better than that slimeball, butt sucking AOL instant messenger. I fired AOL and had a party celebrating the deletion of that menace from my hard drive. Everything that company makes is a complete pile of bantha poodoo. Yahoo messanger owns though.

Well I don't say it doesn't work, I just say that it's a complete waste compared to having all 4 programs...

For your info, AIM (AOL instant messanger) is the best out of the four... It lets you do all kinds of great ****, plus surprisingly (how much the regular telephone company AOL sucks) it has the best download/upload ratio than any of the 4...

I have to agree with Kal el that AIM, despite AOL being absolutely horable, is probably the best. But I rarely use instant messangers and the only people I know that use AIM I wouldnt want to talk to anyhow so I dont use it. ICQ is a pieace of crap good only foe porn ads.

I pitted all of the messangers against eachother.

YIM lost in the first round, it's COMPLETELY screwed up, probably because there are so many users logged in at all times and the servers are literaly suffering. About the interface, well maybe tastes shouldn't be discussed, but in my opinion, its very Win95-ish beta (read: crap)

MSN is slightly better, has a nice interface (although it looks like it was made by homosexuals, so I can't really identify with that O.o), but still it keeps a random average pace at things. Can't really benchmark the speed because it doesn't show the transfer overlay, but it goes rather average. You can't continue your downloads/uploads on other people, which is a BIG minus.

ICQ, it was good before because it was the only thing alive. Now it's somewhere in the YIM group. It's probably where the screwed up AOL kicks in because the transfers on that monster are horrible, not to mention that the instant messaging system is more complex than it should be. But it's main downfall is its transfer speed. I don't know where the hell it's going.

AIM, best of all four, in my opinion. You can customise everything, the transfers are totally great, with my crappy connection, I manage to pull 30-35kbps upload to my friend in Britain (I'm Sweden), it has the "continue download/upload" option, you can even have an avatar on that thing (which I do :p). Also has the best emoticons out of the 4. I don't know WHERE was ICQ going with its emots on the new version, and I don't even wanna talk about the YIM/MSN ones, it gives me nightmares.

Hey but AIM isn't perfect too. There are some options in MSN that are better than on AIM, but still...the list is about:

AIM

MSN

YIM/ICQ

However I gotta use all 4 because..well...I got a average amount of contacts O.o

All in all combined I got about 100-150 people on all SN's. Who would believe a jackass like me to have that many people talking to me eh?

trillian is hopelessly outdated in terms of supporting advanced proprietary features (not necessarily exclusively proprietary to just one messenger, but different, nonetheless) like webcam and talk. I myself use any messenger there is to get a hold of someone, though not constantly am i logged into them all. usually im on aim constantly...it just seems better i guess :-)
