Lunatic Jedi
I do hope this is a joke. LotR all the way. Harry Potter is so pretentious.
Darth Groovy
Harry Potter reminds me of a children's book I read in about the second or third Grad called "A Wrinkle In Time" by Madeleine L'Engle. Lots of fantastic characters and plot twists, and held onto some very basic traditional values. I could be biased, but then again I enjoy alot of Disney films as well. If you ask me will I see The next LOTR movie, the answer is yes........hopefully on opening day. LOTR is difficult for me to follow, but by that same token it is the movie that makes me want to sit down and read the books some day. Back in 1993 they used to have Tolkein classes at ICC. This material has been around for a long time. I too saw the LOTR animated stunt from the 70's or 80's or whenever it was and thought it was gibberish. Maybe the next one will be even better. This time I will be sure to pass on the large soda too......grrrrrrrrr!
Zedar
LotR of course!
Demolisher
I like both movies the same actually. It's funny, my mom thought LotR had something to do with Harry Potter when we watched LotR; I was like "noooooooo, they're not related at all!"
leXX
I do like Harry Potter but it doesn't even come close to LOTR.

thehomicidalegg
Tolkien created the modern fantasy hype, thus spawning this genre of books, cartoons, comics, games, films etc. This probably contributed 2 the writing of Harry Potter. But saying that harry potter is based on LotR and drawing parallels between the two would be ridiculous imo.
Ratmjedi
Well LOTR was a good movie. I only saw it once and got most of it but I am also confused on a lot of it too. Harry Potter in my opinion is a children's book and movie. I do not like it cause it is cheasy in my eyes. Thats just my $0.
Darklighter
LOTR was a story written 50 or so years ago...in the process of transferring it from book to film, obviously a lot of material will be cut/missed out, whatever...it will be confusing to some extent (minor or major, depending on your interlectual capacity) for those who have not read the book...if you do not want to be puzzled by the events in the movie, I've said it before, and I'll say it again: read the book. All will be made clear in due course... I guess that's my 2 pence :Dlol
lsd|Wee Bitch
Actually a few things from LOTR were used in Harry Potter. Tolkein was the first person to give wizards the pointy hats. He started that. So technically, any wizard wearing a pointy hat in a story is taken from LOTR. There are other minor things, but that's all I can remember right now. And LOTR was definately better, both the movie and the book.

It brought back alot memories. My english teacher made us read this in Junior High. I dug it and to this day I love lotr. The books are much better though. Check em out zbomber. Read the hobbit first though.

thehomicidalegg
harry potter's wizards have pointy hats doesn;t mean it was copied directly from lotr, but indirectly from the fantasy genre/environment lotr created. and thats the point im trying to make. LotR is THE text that started a whole new genre while harry potter was just something that was developed by following the flow of teh current caused by lotr, along with couple of hunderd other attempts. grey_fox_001
Are you mad? Theyve always been there. Ive seen ancient pics from 200 years or so ago of witches wearing pointy hats and so forth, it wasnt Tolkien. Did you hear that he invented pointy mountains and rings too? Everything else just copied him. It HAD to be him afterall as it was in his book right? Right?! Harry Potter is actualy quite unique and I think your all fools for judging it worse than LotR and saying that its childish based on the movie (which does NOT convey the book very well in terms of matureness or any of the other later ones) you need to read the two I mentioned earlier as well as read that post. I am FED UP of people defending LotR like their first born and claiming that everything else is a rip off. WAKE UP. Most of its based on folk law and so Is HP, just accept it.
