Luc Solar
Okay..I'm a bit confused. We all know that at any time there can be only one sith master and one apprentice, yes? The Emperor and Vader in EP IV-VI, the Emperor and Maul in EP I. But in EP 2 we have the Emperor and Dooku? Where the hell did Dooku suddenly come from? A old guy like that must have been around during EP I? And if so, was Maul only a Padawan of Dooku or something? Or was Dooku a freelancer during the EP I times? He decided to take on the apprentice-thingie after Maul got mauled? Ummm...and who came up with that stupid (there can only be..) rule anyways? And why are the sith obeying it? I sure wouldn't. Oh well...more coffee..need more coffee.
<JOTD>Jedi Hunter
Lol, I can't aswer the why the sith obey it. I imagine they hold it important. As for dooku being a sith in ep 1. No, he was considored dark jedi. Any dark force user other then the two sith are known as dark jedi. The apprentice takes the masters place when the master dies. Then the previous apprentice becomes a master. Hope this clears it up a bit.
Luc Solar
Oh, okay (still Dooku would have beaten Maul 6-0 during EP I, which makes it a little strange that the Aprentice is a wuss who'd get his butt kicked by a mere "dark jedi".) <JOTD>Jedi Hunter
I personally believe that Palpatine intended for Maul to die. it worked in with his master plan somehow. Maybe at that time he needed a dark soldier so dedicated to the sith that he was blind to anything but revenge. But that's just my theory
thehomicidalegg
I actually thought palpatine convinced dooku 2 join him after maul f***ed up
Luc Solar
No matter how badly the bad guy gets beaten up, it's always a "part of the plan". Damn lamers should finally start accepting that they got owned instead of giving the good old : "Yeah, well..umm...this was all part of my masterplan (which doesn't seem to make any sense whatsoever) ...yeah...I planned all this, and you're all just little puppets in my ingenious complot...U didn't win, I won no matter what you think you accomplished by 'wrecking' everything you think I spent a hundred years building. Mwahahahahaha!" *disconnects before anyone has time to reply* Palpatine is a wuss
<JOTD>Jedi Hunter
Foreseeing things is a force ability. It is actually in use in esb and rotj. Watch those movies again. Plus, you have to give Palpatine at least a little credit. He masterminded the fall of the republic. And how did he accomplish that? By using the force. Foreseeing happened to play a big role in that conquest.
Luc Solar
Well if Vader would've spent some time training, he might have been able to grab that saber, but nooooo, he's too busy trying to look all cool and stuff with that black shiny helmet. Well that's what ol' Palpy said anyways. But agreed...Big P was a clever bastard. He'd make a great republican. Umm..I mean.. nevermind. Hey did you edit your post or am I just confused again? <JOTD>Jedi Hunter
Lol, I hope that's a joke. Because it's not possible to actually touch a lightsaber without that part of you melting. You'd have to be a god to absorb a lightsaber hit. You would have to consist of no matter. As it says, lightsabers can cut through anything (matter). Oh yeah: And I don't joke around.. *ever*!
<JOTD>Jedi Hunter
That weird force field was made of energy...as is a lightsaber. So it's kinda like striking another lightsaber.

Sivy
Dooku had has doubts about the republic before qui-gonn was killed but that was the final straw and he left. he had already been dabbling in the darkside so it was he was easily turned by sidious. http://www.starwars.com it's all there. JrKASperov
Well, I kinda believe Dooku is actually a good guy with his own ways. Sure he uses Dark Side powers, but I dont think he ever was Palpys apprentice. Ok, I was wrong, I stand corrected, he really was an apprentice:D
Clemme w/Stick
Dooku was Yodas Apprentice, then he got tempted by the dark side after Maul got Mauled, I would say some time between ep. 1 and 2...! Well, that should clear some things up....I hope! -Clemme
Darth Kaan
My understanding was that Darth Bane, the only survivor of the Battle of Ruusan (the Sith/Jedi War) started the rule because he knew the Sith would never win having so much internal conflicts and struggles for power. Bane was way before Palpatine and of course this is all EU crap so who knows?

Even though this is blatant EU, I'm with Kaan here - it seems logical that it's a sacred rule not to be questioned unless they want to reveal themselves, aeons of experience yadda yadda.... .:Silver:.
This is from star wars.com: Bane crafted the Sith order to preserve it as much as possible. There could only be two, no more, no less. Bane took an apprentice. When that apprentice succeeded him, that new Sith Lord would take an apprentice. And so the Sith would quietly continue for a millennium. Although encounters with Jedi were rare, the Jedi did eventually learn of this new Sith structure, and thought themselves rid of this menace. It was not until the time of the Battle of Naboo that the Sith re-emerged, seeking revenge for past defeat. This mission of vengeance has been inherited by Darth Sidious . Following in the dark tradition of Bane before him, Sidious' complex schemes remain hidden from the Republic at large, with few suspecting the impending chaos.
