Kylilin
Bah... D&D is my fantasy benchmark Where do you think D&D got just about ALL its ideas from? People don't seem to realize that The Hobbit is a 65 year old book, and the Lord of the rings trilogy is almost 50 years old. Which makes it THE bemchmark for just about every fantasy book or movie that came after it. As for the original topic, I'll go with the Ents. BigTeddyPaul
It is honestly too hard to come up with a truly origianly idea about fantasy since I read the books. All of them seem to in one way or another rip off LotR. BigTeddyPaul

I can't speak for everyone else, but I'm sure curious as to your reasons...... So tell us why you don't like it and we'll tell you how wrong you are...... Wes Marrakesh
Originally posted by thehomicidalegg Elves are not immortal. They can die by battle wound and by grief. Yes they are. Immortal means you will never die by natural causes like old age.. .(might be only one actually) Invincible is unable to be kiled or even wounded in combat, but with a standard lifespan. Spider AL
Oho, so this is what the Swamp is like! I shall wade in. ELENDIIILLL! Originally posted by: ckcsaber The Ents completely destroyed the tower What, Orthanc? They couldn't destroy Orthanc in the book. It was made of adamantine and mystic stone by the faithful of Númenor in their glory, and no damn plant-critter could even scratch it. The Ents did decimate the surrounding structures of Isengard however, and also flooded the huge earthworks and underground forges. There is really very little original fiction out there at all. Everything derives from SOMETHING else. Originally posted by: Wes Marrakesh Immortal means you will never die by natural causes like old age.. I've got to admit that I've never liked to describe elves as "immortal," as the dictionary definition is that one who is immortal is not subject to death AT ALL... I prefer to ignore the word entirely, go back to basics and say that: in the world of Arda, while the souls of Elves tarry in the halls of Námo of the Valar, still within the circles of the world as we know it, the souls of Men indeed leave that realm. Where they end up, only Eru can say, and he hasn't been in touch recently. Maybe it was something I said. Originally posted by: whitedragon the three main species in LOTR are men, dwarves, and elves. they all have their own strengths and weaknesses and i think that it is cool how tolkien made them so different and so simmilar at the same time I fear I take issue with some of your statements, while dwarves are said to be hardier than Men or Elves in most cases, I don't think they're inherently "stronger" nor do I remember Tolkien saying anything about them wielding "gigantic" weapons. Great-axes yes, but one must remember that Dwarves are short. Nor do I remember anything about them being able to rip men and elves in two. Ahem. Also, the Elves and Men of Tolkien had no trouble wielding large melee weapons, and it sayeth not in the Silmarillion, nor the Lord of the Rings, that Elves were disadvantaged as a species in melee combat at all, nor that men as a species were inept at specialisation. Dwarfes are stronger than the two other races, simply because Aule, the creator of the dwarfes, made them in a time where Melkor was ruling middle erath, and therefore he made them that stronger and sturdier than the two other races. However, Aule had holded the making of the dwarfes secret, and when Illuvatar found out, he refused to let them awake before the firstborn, and when Yavanna, spouse of Aule, found out, she got mad and took away the dwarfes love for trees and things that gro.....(notices all the confused faces staring at him ).....errrr......I'm sure Rhett can explain it better......
