The scene plays out like this: "He is here." "Obi-Wan Kenobi? How can you be sure?" "A tremor in the Force. The last time I felt it, was in the presence of my old master." "Surely he must be dead by now..." Darth Vader means he felt the tremor in the Force, not Obi-Wan, while he was with his old master. In other words, he can sense his old master's presence, i.e: he can sense Obi-Wan Kenobi.
