They came up with something truly innovative in GeoMod, but for a lot of gamers they didn't go far enough with it. Personally, I enjoyed playing Red Faction. It was a good game, and at least cut up some of the drudgery of run-and-gun by allowing you to take over vehicles. The story was a little uninspired, IMO, and there were a few bland bits (including some dodgy animation), but overall it played very well. It's a shame Red Faction 2 won't appear on PC...but I believe it was a great deal more successful on console than on PC, so the reasoning is clear. Darth Simpson
Yeah, RF flunked big on PC. I think it sold about 500.000 units in the UK for PS2, while the PC version only sold 27,500 units or something. I didn't really like it much, the Geo-Mod system was much too overhyped, and as StormHammer said, wasn't really used to add anything to the experience. leXX
Red Faction was a really great game, one of my favourites. I don't know why it didn't do well on PC, maybe because the MP side of it wasn't so good. As much as I would love RF2 for the PC, I think Violition are doing the right thing by making it for console only, they sure will sell alot more that way. Boba Rhett
I didn't care for RF. They had a great gimmick but didn't impliment it well at all.
Darth Simpson
They should have made Freespace 3 instead of RF2.

ckcsaber
The Geo-Mod system was cool but they chould take it farther then just making holes in the wall. It didnt really affect gameplay that much

Boba Rhett
You hit the nail on the head, ckcsaber. Yeah, you could get around locked doors.... YaY. Talk about the most boring way to use geo-mod. It was a great idea. The geo-mod tech worked reasonably well. It's just that they just didn't use it well in the game in the least. They implemented it as basically just a trivial thing you could do in a mediocre shooter with a so-so story. Hell, they didn't even give you an x-ray sniper rifle so you could shoot people through walls.
leXX
geez you guys are harsh. Violition come up with this new gaming technology and all you can do is cuss it! It wasn't just that that made the game great, it had a brilliant atmosphere to it. You really felt like a miner on mars. The scenery, the mining equipment, the weapons everything. Oh well, some of us have taste, some don't!
Boba Rhett
So when did you loose your tongue, leXX? *giggles profusely* They came up with a cool new tech but did they use it well? Hell no. They did a p!ss poor job. I'm not going to go easy on them just because they had right intentions.
StormHammer
You just like Revolutions, don't you leXX? Eh? Nudge, nudge. I thought GeoMod was good...but the major problem was that they restricted it's use. Some walls you could blow holes through...and other walls that looked similar, you couldn't. I think that's what confused a lot of people. Also, it sometimes didn't look very realistic when you had a massive chunk of rock hanging by a little strand... Personally, I used to blow holes in the floor and jump in them when under fire. Excellent for instant trench-making. And useful for getting from one floor to another. I wholeheartedly believe that this sort of technology should be taken further, and implemented better. Deformable terrain and buildings will definitely open up different types of gameplay in future...as long as the options and gameplay are there to back it up. leXX
Nothing like a good revolution to break up the monotony! They did explain why you couldn't blow up everything! It would make a pretty boring game if you could just blast your way through it. To implement puzzle solving in a game, you have to keep some things solid. Yes, ok, they could have done a better job on it but it served my Mars appetite well enough. *thinks Rhett 'giggles' to much*
greedo626
hehe, funny story. I was playing red faction MP once and some guy blew a hole in the ground and was sitting in it shooting people. so everyone wanted to be in the hole. so when nobody was watching a blew the hole 20 times deeper, straight down. then the enemy would jump in and get stuck. it was so much fun dropping grenades on them. HAHAHA it was so much fun:D
Darth Simpson
Perhaps they should have limited your ammo resources instead of making certain walls indestructible. There should be a possibility to (1) either open the door by some means, or (2) just blow up the wall beside it. That was the problem with RF, it was never both of the options at the same time. If Geo-Mod is taken to the next level, it could become the next big thing, instead of some marketing gimmick used to sell more copies of the game.
