Jedi_Monk
Have any of you seen the commercials for this new video game? I've seen it many times over the weekend (including on Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network). It's from a company called Gotham Games... I can't remember the title, but basically the scenario is: you're a Navy Seal in the strike force assaulting Iraq. The commercial has a newscaster talking about how we've just invaded Iraq, with scenes intercut from the game like it's newsreel footage. The last scene is Saddam Hussein's head in a sniper's sights (assassination is prohibited by international law, by the way). Now what the hell is this? It's little more than propaganda for the teenage masses, trying to get us behind an unjust war, trying to get us to equate the actual slaughter of thousands of Iraqis with some stupid video game. You know how they say video games desensitize children to violence? Well, I think they're putting that to the test here, trying to desensitize our generation to the horrors of war so that we'll get behind this oil war certain voices are clamoring for. "Many people are patriotic, few people actually show it." That is how the "newscaster" wraps up this 30-second-long propaganda spiel. Well, forgive me if I don't think it's patriotic to slaughter countless innocents in an unjust war.
Ratmjedi
I have only seen one game with Navy Seals and that is is SOCOM. It doesn't have real country's so it can't be that. Do you know what platform it is for? I haven't seen anything about this. But it does look like a propaganda game.
ondrahosek
If it at least looks like propaganda, I will use my fake E-Mail address and bite off ther a****. I have only two words to say: Two words: War Sucks! And Peace Rules!

JediNyt
Sometimes assassination is nessesary. Secret ops by the US and the rest of the free world include assassinations at times. I agree with them. One must do what is nessesary. Hey Id love to see Hussein, Bin Laden, and all the other scum of the planet terminated.

access_flux
i don't agree with this game, but something like this must be backed by the government if its like 'oooh lets invade iraq and shoot sadam and do all bad stuff' games like that are exactly that, propaganda machines. hmmm... last time major propaganda happened, a world war broke out....... JediNyt
I agree. We must stay away from propaganda. We must rely on facts. But of course people like the current President are morons when it comes to long term logic and reason. I like tactical shooter games. But when they promote a very controversial war that may very well happen, its going too far. Games like Rainbow Six on the other hand are ficticious and fun but also realistic. They teach knowledge not propaganda. Your fighting the good fight in those games. If only it was like that in real life.
Darth Homer
That would Be America's Army....made by the U.S. government as a tool to encourage people to join the army....kind of....it is actually a pretty good game from what I've heard....propaganda? oh hell yes, it is also, we wouldn't call it "assassination" (though, that's what it is), it'd be called "neutralizing a threat"
Eldritch
I've seen the advert as well... I think it's a little too over the top. Not sure about it being propaganda, though. I think they just might be trying to play the younger generation's patriotic spirit into buying this sub-par quality (as 99% of games with Clancy in the title are) game. Still don't agree with a video game sniping a real life person, even if it is Saddam. Games like that make it harder to convince people that it's not video games that inspire the s*it whacked out kids do.

America's Army is not that kind of a game. It is more about what people in the Army do and how they do thing's. It's more like a Rainbow Six game but your not communicating with your team mates. It's realistic and you deal with situations but you don't do stuff like assinations. More like terrorist's and getting objectives done.

Btw way my sig is also my closing sentence. I spent 5 years in the Navy and 2 and a half out to sea, on as part of the amphibous division. I've seen a few seals in my time, and I have concluded that most of them are borderline sociopaths. Take it from first hand accounts. Some even brag about killing poeple in closed quarters. NOBODY should ever brag about something like that ever.
Ratmjedi
They really are the hardcore guys. I'm sure there have been many arguements about who is the best Special Forces but in my opinion it is the Seals. They do the kind of stuff that you don't talk about at the dinner table. There training is by far the toughest. Many of them come in from other branches Special Forces cause it is very competitive. BUD's will demoralize you so fast it's not even funny. Like Groovy said They are some of the most craziest people that you will meet and not cause of what they do but how they think. The crazier the person the better they perform in diffacult(SP?) situations. Good luck with becoming one Darth Yoda85 cause your going to need it.
