Age of Mythology

If you're into RTS, liked Galactic Battlegrounds, or was a fan of Age of Empires... go get Age of Mythology. It's a pretty nice strategy game that comes with 3 different civilizations, nine different major gods, and even more minor gods.

I've been playing it on LAN for a couple weeks now. The MP maps are all generated at random, so everytime you play is something new.

Amazon.com has it for $39.99 new (and $31.00 used), but I'm sure it's cheaper than that now.

If you've played it, what Civs do you go?

I used to not be able to touch a computer without going Greek and plenty vault. Now I think I'm liking the Egyptians more since they can make a mess of other's towns. Norse aren't bad, but I guess I just haven't played them enough to build up quickly.

I can't manage to beat two computers at once on hard... I have troubles with two on moderate, but it's doable.

When you set them on hard, all they do is research and continually send armies to your base. I can slow them down with walls, but that isn't usually enough.

I find that if you can stop their gold mind expansion, the game is over. Once they run out of gold, they won't be making any new people to send your way. The hardest part is creating armies/towers to block gold mines and still defend your base for a long enough period to stay alive.

Anyone manage to come close beating two comps set to hard?

Very good game, although I haven't had too much time to play through it. I'm not very good with the Norse, as they require a good amount of micromanagement and you need to rush in order to gain some favor early on. For now, I'm sticking with the Greeks and the Egyptians. The Egyptians seem to be very simplified (one military building, simple, strong god powers), while the Greeks have a broad range of units and strong heros with some very powerful myth units (Colossus!). I've played a few MP games online, and I suppose I'm doing all right, but I'm stilltrying to find out what my favorite gods are.

A good tactic for norse is ballistas, they are rather underused I think, but they'll own any infantry or archer unit, and they make well siege. The point is that you mustn't just put one or two together, in small numbers they are rather weak, just as with archers, but if you get 10-15 they will be pretty awsome. Either attack with them using Ulfsarks in front as meat shield and defense against cavalery, and maybe some heroes (even tough that won't be too nessisery, the ballistas do enough damage to kill most of them if you focus fire, but if you are Loki, 5-10 heroes are just fine) and of course some myth units, and you will have a brilliant attack force. Or just put them behind walls for defense, I'm not sure of this, but I dont think they do piercing damage, meaning they be much better against attacking siege and cavalery.
