Ever go out and rent old movies for no reason?

Well, I did. I rented "The Thirteenth Warrior" and "Druids."

The Thirteenth Warrior was ok, but it took a while to actually get the movie going. The first 20 minutes was some arab guy riding around with some old drunk guys with swords. Antonio Banderas stars in this somewhat entertaining movie. The movie is about a group of people who are summoned to help defend a small village against an ancient evil, which turned out to be guys on horses with bear masks. The action was pretty neat, and some of the scenes reminded me of the Helm's Deep battle in Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers.

Only one phrase can best describe "Druids." And that is: "GIVE ME MY MONEY BACK, ROBBERS!"

Christopher Lambert (Highlander, Mortal Kombat) "stars" in this movie as Vixonsandwich, or something like that. He is the king of the Gauls, and he is uniting his people to fight against the Romans. When their village is attacked, the woman show their breasts and throw chickens at the romans in order to attempt to distract them. Their plan somewhat succeeds, and Vixongloben's soldiers march into battle. Eventually the movie ends with the surrender of the Gauls to the Romans. Wow. What a waist of 2 and a half hours. I want my time back. Can you give me back my time?

So, the point to this thread? Tell about if you have seen these two movies, or renting an old movie, and tell us about the movie. ;)

Haha! ROFL! :D:p When you said old movies, I thought you meant stuff from the 40's and 50's. ;)

Anyway...I've seen The 13th Warrior, and I think it's a cracking film. It did a good job of portraying the culture Banderas' character was becoming involved with, and it just kept building and building on that foundation right up to the finale. If you want to see a less-glamourised version of Vikings on celluloid, I'd say this film is a good starting point. I wish there were more movies made like this, to be honest, with believable characters, and an interesting plot, instead of the flash-bang whizz-pop we're subjected to by most Hollywood 'blockbusters'.

I can't say I've rented many films at all for months. I did buy a few DVDs...does that count? ;)

I got Sleepy Hollow recently, and I really enjoyed it. Mind you, the great cast had a lot to do with the film's enjoyability, and the SpecialFX weren't overdone. Johnny Depp was excellent in the lead role, IMHO, and I wouldn't mind seeing another film in the same kind of mould.

I also got The Abyss: Special Edition, which has additional footage that subtley changes the entire bearing of the film. If you've only seen the regular version, I recommed the SE because it focuses more on the situation creating international tension, and rounds out some of the characters. I consider it the best of the modern 'underwater' movies, with good action sequences, believable characters and an interesting plot which is marginally let-down by the feel-good ending. It's also good to point out that although there are considerable specialFX throughout the film, they do not overshadow the development of the characters.

Anyway...I used to be a rent-a-vid fanatic in my late teens - I think I was trying to make up for all those years I wasn't allowed (quite rightly) to watch adult-rated (18) material. I'd rent 5 or 6 movies at a time, and watch them through the night. Actually, that's a great fun thing to do if you invite friends around, buy in some popcorn and stuff, and make a night of it. :D

Hmmm, I rented "Clerks" last weekend. It was absolutly hillarious. It was directed by Kevin Smith (Dogma, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back) and is about a day in the life of the employee's at a "Quik Stop" store (like a 7-11). They have to deal with crazy customers, and their own crazy lives. Cool Movie. :thmbup1:

I do all the time obi. Usually because the new releases are so damn hard to get ahold of.

This past weekend I rented Panic Room. It was ok, but dreadfully predictable, and somewhat frustraiting.

I could not get a copy of 8-Mile, or The Ring to save my life, so I look to the movies I wanted to see, but didn't for whatever reason.

Well I have never rented a movie in my life actually and neither have my parents. My sister use to when I went to her house or when I go over to my friends house.

I think I am going to get a rental card so that I can go rent movies so that I don't have to buy it if I just want to see it. But the thing is that I need to go get a credit card or else it is more expensive cause you don't have credit?

Anyone else here never rent video's or DVD's?

Yeah I used to.....all of the time. There used to be a 1 dollar fee for 'older' movie rentals. On Tuesdays you could get two movies for a dollar. I don't know how many times I have seen movies like Red Daw, Conan the Barbarian, and the list goes on.....Total Recall, T and T2. :D

I could continue........I don't know why, but I love to watch movies that I have seen before over and over. I guess I just stick to what I like and know. :)
