The Count
I was thinking, if the humans destroyed the Sun to prevent the Machines from using Solar Power, then how come the Machines did not shut down straight away? I mean they mustn't have thought 'Damn Solar Power's gone better start plugging into the humans' and then did it and I think by that time, wouldn't the Machines be already feeling the loss of the Sun's energy? I've just watched the Animatrix 2nd Renissance and this struck me.
Agen
Put it like this, if you have glow stickers or something, soon as it goes dark it doesn't mean they go dark.. otherwise there'd be no point in them... it makes absolute sense for them to not die straight away In my hosue when i switch off the comp switch, the monitor's light stays on for a moment after the switch is put to off They probably jsut had some quick thinking to keep themselves alive Also I don't think every machine used Soalr power, so maybe the ordinary type rebuilt the solar tpye using humans. Hope that helps
LordEradicator
In real life solar energy is preserved. Otherwise it would be useless. If the machines have a big enough "panel" to gather from the sun effectively then obviously that energy can be preserved for a LONG time. It makes perfect sense although I doubt they could gather enough energy from the sun to power all their stuff in the first place
Agen
Yep, it does preserve it, that's what i meant. Well let's jsut say.. they maybe advanced in solar power technology in the future
Pad
the matrix makes us believe its theyear 1999 but actually its closer to 2199. so solar power would be in a more evolved phase which could mean they could store much more energy. afterall, normal powers like gasoline, oil,... would be no more. Wacky_Baccy
And what of nuclear energy, which wouldn't require so much management? Surely machines that advanced could have gained control of a few nuclear power plants at a less 'advanced' phase, and gone on from there... So not really a plothole, but interesting thought anyway
Lightsaberboy
when did they destroy the sun???
NoorR'aya
My question is why use humans. Humans are so inefficent for this. If they're machine, why can't they just do Fission. It'd be so much easier and more efficent.
swphreak
How can humans destroy the sun and still hope to survive the cold? No sun = no heat = cold = ice = frozen cavemen....

whitedragon
when you use solor power, the machine saves the energy that it gatherd in the day and then uses it at night. so it would probley take afew weeks for the machines to shut down entirely
ET Warrior
They didn't destroy the sun....they blackened the skies, blocked the suns rays from reachin gearth.....this would of course make the surfaces inhabitable, which is why Zion is down, near the Earth's core where it's still warm....
Nute Gunray
They didn't even really block out the sun. If they had, it would have been pitch black on the surface and it clearly wasn't.
swphreak
well, they made a bunch of clouds in the sky...... Destroying the Sun is just..... not very smart
C'jais
Who are the good guys in the movie? Humans or machines? I'm inclined to say machines. The humans commited suicide, and the machines built a peaceful world for them to live in. If it weren't for them, living in the "real world" would be hell, and there'd be very few (if any) humans left. The machines could easily get energy from humans without the matrix, and they'd get even more energy by using other animals as power sources (such as big, warm cows). In essence, the machines are the saviours of our foolish race. There is no future left for us, but they're still kind enough to build a perfect world for us (though that didn't succeed) - looking past Cypher's greed and ego, he could be viewed as being the only smart guy left. They "scorched the sky".

TiE23
The destruction of the sun was the dumbest plan, here are some other choices... 1.EMP bomb the planet. 2.Leave the planet, nuke earth later 3.Make peace 4.War, when they invented AI, some time in the future, there would be a population of about, what, 9 billion? WAR! 5. Kiss your @$$ good bye. If we had the technology to blow the sun, that would be our last choice. But when you think of it in the long run, it mike be worth it, the robots take earth, then the other planets, go to other star systems, take over any intellegent life, go on. They might take over the Galaxy, and then the others in millions of years from now.

If we had died by the hands of the machines, what they had done afterwards we wouldn't really care about, would we? What matters if they colonize the galaxy if we're no longer here? It doesn't make sense. Again, the machines were kind to us. They made the matrix. Ignorance truly is bliss, in this case.
swphreak
Yes, and the way the Animatrix puts it, he Machines tried to make peace with us. The humans rejected it.
Agen
I believe the reason they used the humans was because... if the humans were trying to destroy the robots, then why not get 2 for the price of one... robots use humans for power and it gets rid of them. Though i sure those people hooked up the machines sure would want to make peace now, Which would make the Humans the good guys now
BCanr2d2
Not sure about you guys, but the simple answer as how the robots continued to work was as simple as BATTERIES. Not sure if you have heard of them, but they hold electricity in them. Your PC has one to power the RTC on the motherboard.
