When a thread or avie is offensive but still legal?

we are all different personalities and commin from different countries and that could make it diificult sometimes, certainly when evryone does what he/she feels like. i believe when we have respect for each other by not usin offensive material, this envirement will be much more plesant. i dont say you cant talk about some things (a debate is always nice when it doesnt turn into a flame) but sometimes you need to think about things before you post em here.

 

so i believe in a freedom of speech with respect for all ;)

This is a community. People join it to talk to other people, and just have a good time. If someone posts or displays something that is offensive, but still within the rules, they should be allowed to leave it up. But really, what is the point to show or post something like that when you are making others uncomfortable? The point of most message boards is not to see how many people you can offend.

 

So really, I believe people should just be courteous to others, and if something comes along that offends others, consider their point of view.

Ohh but its so tempting, and quite frankly deserved.

 

I find a picture of someone who started the genocide (and actually murdered millions) of a race of people quite repulsive. To me it shows admiration for the person.

That man ordered people to into gas chambers, women and children.

I belong to a WW2 gaming forum, its server located in Germany, if anyone even has a swastika image (no matter how big) on any part of their sig then they are liable to legal action. They get a warning to remove offensive matter, if they dont, banned.

 

Oh and I also have many many books on WW2, so dont even start the you dont know anything about history.

1. Actually having said that (Although this isn't my opinion) there is no written evidence that Hitler authorised the slaughter of the Jews.

 

2. Something in this case my avatar that is descriptive doesn't have to be Perscriptive For example I may say that in London 90% of all rapists are by Black People isn't being racist because it is merely stating a fact. In the sense of my Hitler Avatar, it says I'm thinking about History I represent it with my Hitler Avatar (and for those who can't read behind the lines I wrote it in my Signature) however YOU just infer that I am some Nazi loving Fascist from it, do you understand my point?

I don't think there is total free speach here, I mean, you can't just post anything...

 

But if a thread/avatar is blatantly offensive, IE "I hate homosexuals," then yes of course, it will be closed. The avatar will be deleted if used in the same manner.

that's simple. force them to use another avatar, or close the thread.

 

 

count dooku, no matter how much you think that a person as hitler was great, important, evel, whatever. you should always think twice before using an av like that.

think about the people you are possibly offending. it's not only people that are directely offended by him, also people that don't have any link with what happened, like me. i'm truly offended that you even dare to use an avatar like that. jabba wh0r3 is right, it is sick, the only think you are currentely doing is provoking, trying to get people upset. and i hope you are happy now, because you succeeded. :mad:

Yeah man, some people can say the Nazis wern't bad, because they were just following orders...

 

I agree with you on one thing though, Hitler was a genius. But I'm totally aganst everything he did once he rose to power.

 

And from drawing swashticas (spelling) to having a forum avatar as Hitler, your bound to offend people, just watch what you say.

we cant really ban someone for having something that offends someone, because they can just come back and say 'well his av/sig/whatever offends me' and then they'd hafta do whatever is neccisary. And if a Mod/Super Mod/Admin said BS, than the person could claim favoritism or some other outta this world thing. Did anyone watch the Christmas South Park? For crying out loud, that is what this is gonna turn into

When in doubt about a sig or av, consult the Forum rules.

 

Other than that, if someone posts a sig or av that's in a grey area, and some people complain, the Mods will assess it and make a judgement call. Sometimes we'll agree that something's offensive and deal with it, sometimes we'll disagree. If we're in doubt ourselves, we get the views of other Mods. It's as simple as that. Favouritism doesn't even come into the equation, and Mods themselves aren't immune either.

 

If any member finds someone else's sig/av offensive, feel free to contact a Mod about it, and we'll look into it. We just can't guarantee that we'll agree with you.

 

As Obiwan-13 said, if you're really in doubt about whether something will cause offense, don't post it.
