BooJaka
Since I have absolutely no chance in acquiring the Grim Fandango Soundtrack, is there any chance that someone could post the track listings on here for... amusement?

BooJaka
Thanks Scabb. I am thoroughly amused.
scabb
The Grim soundtrack is great, although some of the tracks stuffed in the middle do seem a bit like filler. However, Casino Calavera, Swanky Maximino, Hector Steps Out, Talking Limbo, Ninth Heaven, Companeros, and quite a few of the other tracks are all brilliance. Thrik
The Grim Fandango Network had the soundtrack downloadable once upon a time, but I think it died with Mojo Downloads. I'll try and see if we can get it up again though once we reopen.
battlebison
Hey, it would be great the GF Network up and running, likewise to the 1388 BPM site that we've been talking about in the "What Sites Would You Like To See?" thread. I think whichever one can provide us with the music fastest would be best saying as in my opinion, Grim Fandango had the best soundtrack out of any game ever. (well maybe Quake 2 comes close..... naw)
James Isaac
I can use SCUMM Rev to get the tracks for you. I think I already have them on my PC somewhere, and soon I will put them up on my Grim Fandango Site But for now you can tell me the songs you would like, and I can give them to you, if you want. Alien426
Originally posted by battlebison ...in my opinion, Grim Fandango had the best soundtrack out of any game ever... No. Dune and Hitman 2 have a better soundtrack. I would also say Deus Ex, Lost Eden, Doom and Morrowind have a better one, but in the end it's really just my opinion. PC Game Soundtrack has some samples.
C Shutt
Deus Ex a better soundtrack than Grim Fandango? That's ridiculous. I've just replayed it, and the music is bland as all get out. Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and Super Metroid are the only soundtracks I'd rate above Grim's. Maybe Monkey Island 2.
Thrik
Monkey Island 2 had one of the best soundtracks of any game, ever. It's just not very pretty to listen to due to the old school way it was made. It'd be so amazing if one day Michael Land (or whatever) redid the soundtrack from MI2. In fact, someone go hire him. Now.
C Shutt
MIDI is better than digital audio for game soundtracks anyway. With the sound hardware on modern systems, the difference in quality is negligible, and MIDI is more dynamic.
battlebison
I still hold true to Grim Fandango having the best soundtrack *folds arms* I do have to agree that Morrowind might come close and MI2 even closer but the swing and acid jazz that Grim Fandango features is just too cool and stylized to overlook. Also, the music in Deus Ex may be adrenaline pumoing when it comes to fights, but it is nowhere near the excitment of Quake 2.
Mr. Teliot
the difference between a bunch of rotten samples triggered by a computer and a recorded orchestra (like in grim) is NOT negligg... whatever you said it was. I acutally think most people would agree. I have yet to hear one general MIDI module that isn't a total joke.
Thrik
CShutt does have a point. Hans Zimmer, the guy who did the soundtracks for Gladiator, The Rock and various other big movies does his mainly on computer synths or whatever (I'm not a music technical bloke, I don't know the proper terms) and they sound absolutely amazing. Although in terms of MIDI, it's not very good many people since their sound cards cannot output a particularly good quality sound.
battlebison
I think that even if some great music can be made completely through synth (Aphex Twin, Chemical Brothers) and as Thrik pointed out, it is used in movies a lot (I have seen both movies used as examples), it's really hard to overcome the sound created through an actual band. Also, the type of people who do make synthesized music for computer games probably aren't paid as much as those for high-budget movies and probably don't have as much technology as them so they wouldn't be able to create works better than an actual band of people. Alien426
Hans Zimmer's soundtracks are highly overrated! While I like midis for their small size and simplicity, I think that their dynamicity, uh, dynamic is negligible. In fact, apart from LucasArts' iMuse (which was not used that often) I can't think of any other game where the music was really dynamic. Again, look at modern games like Hitman 2 (and Morrowind) and you do have different tunes for different situations. Please, try the demo! The transition won't be fluid, but the transition in gameplay ("Look out, an enemy!") isn't neither. If I remember correctly Deus Ex' modules were quite like, say, Dark Forces' midis. Various situations packed into one file. I wonder if Ion Storm will program this functionality back into the Unreal [2] engine. In its current state, the engine supports OGG files. Thrik
I don't particularly care if they're overrated or not. I like them, regardless of their ratings.
manny_c444
Rez has dynamic music that isn't MIDI. And it has a pretty good soundtrack to boot. I suggest anyone with a dreamcast and a CD burner to look into it. Or you can pay 60-80 dollars for a PS2 copy, if you find it. Oh...and GF definitley has the best game soundtrack ever.... Aranolorion
Grim Fandango has indeed one of the best soundtracks around, I've yet to find something to better it. Morrowind is good, but too short, and Deus Ex is just the Airwolf tune on speed. For the soundtrack, I'd like to plug my good friend, Darth Eggplant's site, - Calaverablanca , which has a load of the music, at last check. battlebison
Thanks for the site Aralabaloo (bah, too long to remember and type), and after getting an actual copy of the soundtrack and not just going to areas in the game and leaving it running to listen really leaves me in awe of the genius behind these pieces. Thrik
We've now got the soundtrack downloadable on the GFN - Clicky. The ripped music from the game will also be available once the new Mojo/LFN harddrive comes back from the dead.
battlebison
EVERYONE! BISON HAS AN ANNOUNCEMENT TO MAKE: THRIK IS OUR SAVIOR! I'm getting insane download speeds on these files! Thrik, you are the greatest. Thank you!
manny_c444
Yeah thanks Thrik...very nice speeds. It says on this page that all of Gf's music was composed by peter McConnel. Does that mean that everything from Companeros to the Bone Wagon were written by him? Because that just f-cking awesome. BTw Hi-tone fandango doesn't seem to be working.....
