"Nintendo is to press the pause button on production of its GameCube consoles while it clears inventory of unsold machines. the company's president said on Thursday. But Satoru Iwata promised the struggling games company was developing a radical new product to be announced next year -- however he gave few details save to say it would be a departure from mainstream gaming consoles 'that will have a big impact on the world.'"

yeah they're workin on next generation stuff now, the GCN came too late and there wasn't enough to fuel it against an already established PS2 and a Microsoft made X Box...

say what ya want but i'll support Nintendo to the bitter end, i love the Metroid and Zelda series and nothing will stop me from buying Nintendo

Nintendo does not offer enough dynamic material for me. All of the games i see come out are either already done, ported, or too aimed at younger audiences.

Personaly, i like alot of the PS2 stuff, lots of the cool action titles and whatnot. However, i am a HUGE power freak, and i love the framerates and effects the xbox can push out. And with games like Otogi, Halo 2, Fable, Hunter, Panzer Dragoon, Metal Gear Solid, Brute Force, Mechassault, Steel Battallion, blah blah blah, there are plenty of action games i can sink my teeth into without worry of dying in a slide-show framerate (agent under fire for PS2, anyone?).

So Xbox and PS2 are what i like, xbox a bit more so.

I used to like my PC, but PC gaming is going to hell. I prefer my PC for art.

actually most of it's better titles are nintendo exclusives. Metroid Prime didn't become Game of the Year in 2002 for nothing u know

Nintendo painted themselves into a corner and then painted that corner too. They've made themselves into a company that makes niche products for a niche market and then made stupid decisions.

I think Nintendo might make one more console and then follow Sega's lead. They'll keep making hand held machines and games though.

I don't think Nintendo will do what Sega does, unlike Sega, Nintendo looks like it'll hang on until the company goes completely dead and I can't blame them, their games are meant for their own systems and they would feel it to be WRONG to find Mario on a playstation and Samus running around on an X Box.

Here here! :)

Agreed, They should wait until they can compact a DVD/CD-RW Player (Which doesn't take that much room), with a compacted, smaller 256MB GeForce FX, and if they're sticking with ATI, then at least a 128MB Radeon 9500, with SoundBlaster Audigy (1 or 2, doens't matter, s'all good.)

And kill the memory cards, just slip a small notebook hard drive in there, they could get a 60 or even 80 Gig in there.

Of course Put in a single 2 Ghz G5 chip like the new Apple PC (Dual 2Ghz G5 probably wouldn't fit)

PS - There is a console in the making called "Phantom" or something that you can install computer games onto and other cool stuff, but I don't know the details.

Apart from stubbornness, I can't see any reason for Nintendo to keep at the console making business. They dicked around the third-party developers for too long, and now they aren't coming back. They need to focus on what they're best at, which is making good games, and that means going third party. That way they can go back to "it'll be out when it's ready" instead of rushing out an obviously unfinished game to fill gaps in their system's release schedule. Yes, I am still bitter about Super Mario Sunshine.

Gamecube doesn't have enough good titles. It seems to have several truly spectacular ones, and then a load of garbage or stuff that's been ported onto another console already.

Oh, and an Xbox doesnt? ;)

You can play most good Xbox games on a PC anyways :p
