I'd like a choice for my gaming OS other than microsofts stuff, but alas.

90% of people that say this are too young to remember when there wasn't standardization. Microsoft is the reason I'm typing this message and that you're reading it. I had a Tandy back in the day and I never want to even have the chance of being on the short end of the compatibility stick again (despite Tandy having been IBM compatible).

So in short, what Ike said.

*Agrees with Ike and edlib*

I'll never trust Microsoft. But that's no reason to not get their stuff.

R15: Stating the facts, huh? What's

xbox users are this generations "hardcore gamers", PS2 are the "pop-culture" gamers, and GC are the "loyal fanboy" gamers.

that, then? ;)

Incidentally, my family now has both an X-Box and a Gamecube. My brother got the GC for the new Rogue Squadron games, and kept it for Metroid Prime. We got an X-Box by trading in a PS2 that my mom got for free off of someone who didn't realize it's value. ;)

(Why do that? Five words: Knights of the Old Republic. ;))

I find it very amusing that the X-Box constantly crashes. Figures.

I've had my xbox for almost two years and it's never crashed. I've never seen an xbox crash, except a demo unit at a store and those are under extreme stress. I've had it hard lock, but I think the game I was playing caused it (NCAA Football 2004 was the only game to do it).

and what in the unholy name of robo-jesus is everyone's problem with the word "xbox?" it's not x-box or something. look at the freaking machine and see that it says "xbox" on teh hull and Xbox in the dashboard. geez.

@ everyone who says i'm an xbox raving maniac:

When pS2 was annouced i was the same way. it was the best technology available. it was incredible. i rented it the first day it came out.Never got enough $$$ to buy it, or i would have.

Then xbox came out. Now it is the best, technology wise, and to deny that is just plain stupid and i'm sick of people arguing statistics. It might not offer a crapload of games like PS2, but it has TONS of game i like, and the day will never come when i own all of them.

The term Hardcore Gamer is a term that a freind of mine uses, Jeremy Worden. Jeremy Worden is a member of the Cyberathelete league and makes upwards of 40k a month playing in gaming tournaments. He knows the industry inside and out, and spends time with developers quite often looking at new game structures. why? Why do devs care about people who call themselves hardcore?

They want people who are not just half-interested in the products they produce. They want feedback from the people who are spending the money and the time on thier years of effort, not the dude who got it cause his freind got it and said it was cool. So like yeah dude, its like gnarly and like now i'll play it twice and like, let it sit there.

Motorhead? Thats what we call our hardcore car guys around here. They would never just be a "casual car guy" who "kinda fixes cars". Either you are a motorhead or you're not.

Either your a hardcore gamer or your not.

Assuming hardcore gamer is a legit thing to be (and with the starting of the Cyberathlete League, it is) then here are the signs of one:

Partial to a system for one or two reasons, but will play anything.

Does not hate something simply because of a brand

Willing to play anything, regardless of ratings, to see whats its like

Spends a good deal of money (at least $100 or so a month) on games or game related material.

Has a wide knowledge of the industry and takes interest in the news on a regulara basis

Can spend more then two or three hours in front of a video game

You might not like the term hardcore gamer, but thats what we call ourselves, and thats what we are.

and that bit up there about the xbox crashing:

My box has never once ever, EVER crashed, even during games like the ones 15 and i play (8 hour long Baulders Gate marathon, for example).

#1 reason for xbox crashes: People are stupid and put them in places they will overheat. Why do they overheat?

THEY ARE MADE WITH HIGH END COMPUTER PARTS AND THOSE PARTS GET HOT, AND UNLESS THEY JACK UP THE PRICE AND ADD LIQUID COOLING, YOUR GONNA HAVE TO PUT YOUR SYSTEM SOMEWHERE OTHER THAN UNDER A PILE OF CLOTHES!

my brother's got a bloody fan running on the silly overlarge thing. it still crashes. why oh why did it crash when I was trying to name my character? poor character. only two letters in her name...life isn't fair. :(

That's why you never buy preowned consoles!!! :D

btw, i recommend deleting all the save games on the xbox for the games you don't own, or haven't played, just to be on the safe side. ;]

Biased people suck.

God knows it's personal preference. Joe, I haven't the slightest idea why you're coining GC lovers "fanboys" and yourself a "hardcore gamer". The term fan boy pisses me off - you like what you like and that's that! In that case, you'd be a fan boy too. AAHHH! This drives me absolutely insane.

Who the hell cares that XBox is more powerful? Does it make a difference? Why are biased XBox losers a.k.a. "hardcore gamers" going around trying to convert people as though it's a damn religion? The XBox is a console, not a way of life.

Ironically enough I'm biased against biased people...thus, I must think that I suck.

Lol. Indeed.

Wait wait wait. Who the hell cares. It's all a matter of opinion of what's better. Nintendo halts gamecube production. So? Didn't Microsoft expect to sell a million consoles in whatever amount of time and only sell 60,000? Maybe I'm misinformed.

The way I see it, there is nothing remarkably better about Xbox than any other system. I have not yet played one game that just totally blows me out of the water on the system, as far as graphics, gameplay, etc. You can ramble on about specs or that they haven't pushed Xbox to its full power, but I still don't favor Xbox over any other system just because it can do more. The point is that it hasn't done more.

Oh and wait, Nintendo fanboys have nothing constructive to say? Hmm, maybe it's that Xbox fanboys (at least the one i talk to) seem to be hypocritical *******s when it comes to console gaming and also have nothing constructive to say about other systems.. S1, you would not say anything constructive about PS2 or Gamecube, I know that for a fact. You are an Xbox fanboy, like it or not, and you're always close-minded about the other systems on the market.

Blah.

This is all the further I got before I decided you are stupid and didn't read the rest.

A standard hard drive is instantly an advantage over something that does not have a standard hard drive.

must we flame each other :p

The X-Box' hard drive is much more convenient than a memory card...but I haven't seen any other inherent advantage in either system. Sure, people have claimed the capabilites of one are better than the other, but I've seen gorgeous games on both systems.

so...*agrees with what Cal and TDX sad* yet adding in, I really don't feel it matters one way or another ^_~ I can't quite get the idea of being a "fan" of one system or another...I mean, it's a system. It's the games that matter.
