Sorry, but just to let you know I noticed you left out the "b" in your signature. ~

Thanks, it is definitely enlightening to be on the other side of the fence. I'm still finding things to look at. I discovered the infraction list page just yesterday.

I read your piece of gonzo journalism on the staff writer position and laughed XD
I just watched Fear and Loathing yesterday. I'm not sure how cinema gets better than that.

It's the washroom keys, but I'm there in a strictly janitorial capacity.
Apparently the higher-ups wanted more staff around for those two areas. I've been told to keep an eye on both. The Senate seems dead (for now anyway, god help us if it comes back and starts eating brains) so I probably won't be doing much at all there between that and its looser rule enforcement. Kavar's has been quiet lately too; hopefully it will stay that way and I won't need to do anything there except sometimes covering for the current active mods.

Yes. I got on the skype yesterday and suddenly I was being spoken to by the Powers That Be. Hopefully it should go well though.
As for your other reading suggestion it'd probably be less annoying than Pinker. Sheesh, and it looked like an interesting book by its cover...
-
Ick, now Pinker's on about "mentalese". I dislike this guy already and I'm not even 1/4 through the book.

Surely not!
Grr, Darathy. I'm reading a bit of a book by Steven Pinker - "The Language Instinct" - and he just ravaged a bit of W in it.
Philosophers argue that since animals lack language, they must also lack consciousness-- Wittgenstein wrote, "A dog could not have the thought 'perhaps it will rain tomorrow'"--and therefore they do not possess the rights of conscious beings. [p56, The Language Instinct]
I'm not really sure how it's possible to misconstrue W so badly that you end up with the above sentence unless you're just quote-mining. But you'd expect a "leading linguist" to actually, well, read linguistic philosophy...
-
Of course not, Darathy. Just as you say, too Machiavellian to be followed by ourselves. I'm surprised I didn't think of this before.

I propose we enact all of these rules and well, rule with them. I'll stab you in the back if you stab me back!

A large black handbag, you know, with handles and everything! That's the sort of handbag I'd be in. ^_^
