Vast amounts of unobtainable wealth (Found only in Hint Book!)
Blondebeard replied to Remi's topic in General Discussion
Thanks for sharing Remi! I had never seen this as I only have the MI2 from the white label double pack. Those are the maps that will be included on the reverse side of the Monkey Island Anthology mini-posters. I was wondering where they were from, now I know. -

Maybe you saw it here: https://limitedrungames.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/22000236142-international-customs-fees -
Thanks for the preview! It looks amazing. Great job as always. Looking forward to see the proper one.

Any news on the clean (without text and thumbnails) MI2 back? How is it coming along?

The Monkey Island box set from Limited Run Games

They have already updated the page to include the last version with yellow/orange logo. It also includes a logo on the top that wasn’t there before. Looks way better now that we can see a more detailed version. -

Interesting to see a completely different view That’s why when I am designing something (not that I am good at it) I tend not to ask too many people as each person will answer something different. You can’t please everyone. However, when it comes to design I would take your word over mine as you are way more experienced on this topic. When I was younger (20 years ago?) I remember I used to annoy you a lot on ICQ asking about design, but you were quite pacient. -

I also agree, I do like Laserschwert’s version better. In my opinion the yellow-orange logo doesn’t fit so well with the purple/green of the box art, but I understand why the would go for the colourful version from CMI/EMI. Anyway, overall I think this updated was a great improvement and I will be ordering once the pre-order is open. -
Legend adds canons to your browser...

The probability of getting it is very low. Something like 1 out of 30. You need to try it a couple of times. -

That’s weird, it works fine for me. I tried in ScummVM and I got the women screaming. Not sure where the sound clip if from but it does sound like a stock sound. -

Yes, close enough, but not a tiger. It’s randomised so you need to try a couple of times. -
Legend adds canons to your browser...

Good catch! There’s actually 5 or 6 different voices (not just one per boat). Since I don’t show the subtitles I decided I didn’t need it. Also the logic they use is a bit complex. Besides being randomised is also based on the cannonball proximity to the boats. -

No, there’s another one also included on the original game. Tip: it’s related to the jungle on the right side. -

Interesting, I actually didn’t know about the SHIFT+V short cut. Regarding the aforementioned secret Easter egg I only found it after I looked into the disassembly code. I checked the World of Monkey Island and it’s not there. I think I saw it before somewhere on the web, but I am not 100% sure. -

That’s a really good score which means you already know that if you destroy 2 turrets will give you more points. You can get close to 400 if you get it in less than 30 seconds and only use 6 shots. The game also includes another small easter egg (also included on the original mini-game). Only one person found it so far but he did it by looking at the source code. It’s the kind of easter egg that only ATMachine would know. Besides these easter eggs, it also includes some other minor details like leaving holes on the fort. Most of the game should be a pretty good copy of the original with a few exceptions. For instance, the pirates don’t cheer as long as they do in the original game when you hit the fort, but I couldn’t be bothered to fix it. And the proudest moment of publishing the game was Jonathan Ackley sharing it on Facebook. He was most likely the one who did the coding of this part on the original game. -
Also sharing mine. He actually sent me two versions: one just saying Monkey Island and the other with “The Legend of Monkey Island”. I believe the old SCUMM bar logo was also done by him which was also cool.
-
That logo is really cool! I really like Bill TIller drawings. The lighting is always on point. He also did a logo for my website long time ago. I was really surprised when he replied to me and said yes.

I am not much of a gamer or collector so I only own the boxes from Monkey Island games. Apart from Tales of Monkey Island, all were bought from eBay. Tales of Monkey Island copy is still wrapped as I played the digital copy I bought from Telltales.

For me the list would be: CMI MI1 MI2 TMI EMI

Very cool! Any idea if this was this was an original pitch or the one for the The Curse of Monkey Island and then they later changed the name? -
Thanks for sharing Jake! I have to admit that besides the confinement due to COVID, your livestream also had some impact on me for wanting to bring The Legend of Monkey Island back from the dead. Speaking of which, while designing the website at some point I got too ambitious and wanted to create a Dark theme that would turn on automatically while Dark Mode was on. I even got to the point of creating the night version of the banner I used on the top, but then I realised it wasn’t worth the effort. I still think the banner turned quite alright though.
-
The amount of detail in that picture is impressive. No wonder Bill Tiller said that if he would do it again he would try to simplify it a bit.
-
The way I see it is that if you were already huge fan of Monkey Island 1 and 2 when you played CMI it’s very unlikely that you will enjoy the new graphics considering how much it departed from the original ones. It would be good to have other views though.

Adding a bit of diversity here! My favourite game is The Curse of Monkey Island and unlike a lot of people that prefer the game because it was their introduction to Monkey Island series this was actually the third Monkey Island game I played. The first one being LeChuck’s Revenge: Monkey Island 2. I must say that I didn’t get most of the jokes as my english back then was really basic and most of the witty dialogues went over my head. None the less I still enjoyed playing it but for me it was just another great adventure game. The second game I played was The Secret of Monkey Island (CD version) and I must say I enjoyed more than LeChuck’s Revenge: Monkey Island 2. Then in 1998 I played The Curse of Monkey Island and that’s when I really became a fan of the series. It’s hard to say why this one and not the others, but I think the main reasons are because of the amazing drawings by Bill Tiller and the atmosphere it creates with Michael Land’s music on top of it. The Blood Island part is definitely my favourite as it’s very mysterious and exotic and almost makes you want to go there. Of course, not all is good. I felt the carnival part a bit boring and the ending a bit rushed, but overall it’s still an awesome game.
