To follow up on that other thread that Wilhuf & co. were having, what are you impressions of the Concussion Rifle now that you've gotten to use it in the Demo (if you haven't, go try it out now!)?

Granted, it will most likely be tweaked for balance in MP....

I like the effects. The primary has a nice blast radius (not as big and boomy as the JK1 one, but still nice) and the secondary has a nice "body launching" effect.

I reminds me strongly of the Shock Rifle from UT (though less purple and without the super combo shot option).

The First Person mode model looks very cool, and much nicer than the initial "boring" model people were complaining about on the official JA site.

The "hum" it gives off will signal its approach, perhaps to haunt the dreams of Jedi for years to come... ; )

I like it. It has good splash damage and it's a whole lot faster than those damn rockets. This will probably be the weapon of choice for any would be Jedi killer.

One thing did leave me puzzled. I managed to kill some cultist with the Rifle(even a saber wielding one), but a reborn will somehow reflect the blast right back at me, killing me instantly. I wonder if this is possible in Mp, because I never managed to reflect the shots myself in SP. I usually died after the first shot :).

I like the Concussion Rifle. The damage it deals seems balanced. It packs a wallop, but isn't an insanely powerful weapon. It sure uses up the ammo quickly, though.

btw, is it possible to block the shots with the lightsaber? I had a few shots fly back in my face in the Chandrila demo level when I shot it at a Force-wielding enemy, but I wasn't sure if it was because it was pushed back at me or if his lightsaber deflected it back.

Whoop, simul-post there.

When it was revealed that the concussion rifle was going to be included in JA, I was one of the few people who didn't like the idea.

Now that I have tried out the conc rifle, I have to say that they have made great improvements especially in balance. It is powerful, but it has high recoil. It probably wouldn't be too effective in spamming; that is a good thing!

The conc is quite handy in some situations, I'm sure we've all encountered the duo of where one does saber fighting and the other only uses Force powers to taunt you. Often it happens that when you blast the one without a saber that his pal will jump away to avoid getting caught in the blast, and often it sends him over the edge, phew, just saved myself another annoying duel XD (actually, fighting those are quite fun though, I just discovered that by accident)

the conc blast was force pushed back, just like rockets.

I love how the concussion secondary fire knocks the victim about 20 feet in the air. Sometimes I put on slowmotion (in console the command is /timescale .2) and use the conc rifle only, It's so cool watching the enemies fly back, twirling through the air because of the ragdoll physics (well, the ragdoll physics aren't as good as in Half-Life 2 or UT2003, but they're better than nothing)

The primary shots seem to be pushed back by the Reborn, and the secondary they "dodge" (like the Jedi in JK2 dodged sniper shots).

It remains to be seen what counters there will be for it in MP.

I would think the high ammo consumption, slow rate of fire, and kickback/head jerk (forcing you to line up your shots more carefully and make each one count) combined with the noise factor and placement in maps would be enough to balance it with the other weapons.

Also, like the UT shock rifle, the shots are near instaneous hits (could be they fool the eye though), as they should be.

I have tried not to use the terms interchangably... the "cultists" are the (crappier) guys in green and brown, some with sabers, some not.

The Reborn in this game are the guys in red padded (or is that armor?) outfits and they seem much more adept with the Force.

Have to say I loved it. Seems reasonably balanced too. High damage, decent ROF, recoil, high ammo consumption, push/dodgable. Nice addition. I personally loved the sound it made in DF. Wussier sound now, but still acceptable. Gotta love the crackling sound of electricity when you hold it.
