And this is by far the bitchiest, whiniest gaming community I've ever seen. Seriously. Go down through the list of threads here. I challenge you to find a positive topic (not counting sticky threads). And if you think the Counter Strike kiddies are bad about constantly saying haxOOred, nOOb, spam, and lamer, you need only play a game of JA to be proven wrong. Counter Strike kiddies are great compared to the crap-extravaganza in the typicle JA server. My favorite word slung around is "ghey". I assume that means gay. Kids anymore have some bizzare fascination with homosexuality and not being able to spell worth a ****. Weird, huh? Oh, and another good one is "pwned". Someone says this if they win with their "l33t skillz". As for what it means? Well, I'm not retarded, so I'm going to guess it means they pawned something. Probably a stupid-ass 8 Mile dvd, Kid Rock cd, or something else confused white children are drooling themselves to sleep with and passing off for entertainment. Anyways, I got off on a bit of a rant there. Back to the issue at hand. Someone out there has to like this game, just the way it is. As for pwned...it's actually a supposedly 1337 variation of owned. Largely because some people kept hitting the wrong key...and thought it would be a good idea to make it into a 1337 word in it's own right. Sad, I know...but no accounting for taste. As for those who love the game as it is, and have no problems with anything at all...congratulations. Glad you're enjoying the game the way it was designed. However...other people can see issues with it, and they're free to air their views. There have been some good ideas posted in these forums to 'improve' the game - or any future sequels. I don't see anything wrong with people wanting a 'better' experience, or pointing out perceived flaws. But in a way you're right. It does lead to a lot of whining and bitching... That's life. And in my humble opinion (imho), a whole lot more enjoyable than Jedi Outcast was to play - both SP and MP. That's just me though... (lots of good fun here) Funniest way you have died (these people seem to be enjoying themselves) If you could change one thing about JA (most of these people think it's pretty good just as it is with only minor improvements needed) And these are all on the front page... maybe you need to look just a little harder. Even the negative threads have lots of people voicing they're approval and support for JA. Kurgan seems to like it quite a bit, as does Prime, Astrotoy, CortoCG, Vanor, Master William, and a whole bunch of other people. Most of the people I meet online seem to be having fun too. I like the demo a lot, i just got bored after playing with it over 50 times (really) I did all know to do with it. The only things that need to be patched are the server bug, the CD bug, and the ATI bug... other than that, maybe a little support (1 or 2 maps, and maybe a new model...) im only asking for like 2 more maps.... and a new model or 2 (dont get me wrong, when i looked at the models available, i liked them, they were very nice.) I didnt like it in JK2 when i had JUST learned all of the saber moves, and had them perfectly mastered, then i got the patch, and had to learn them again... well really i thought i was just messing up or something, later i figured out it was the patch. I didnt find to much different about the game, nor did i care... i just liked JK2. It was fun, and it still is. Ill get the JA patch, whenever it is released, chances are, it will be released before i get the game, so ill install it, and thats the way the game will be for me... and ill never really know how the original was, if it even changes. Star Wars games are almost certainly much less bloody and violent than most FPS's. So if their kid wants a shooter game, and the parent sees Star Wars: Jedi Academy or Half Life 2, guess which one they're gonna choose. Of course, kids like to whine and bitch a lot. That's why there's so much whining, bitching and horrible spelling in this forum and in the game. Don't worry though. There are a few grown ups hangin' around. I see it as a fight- and chat arena, sometimes I just screw fighting and I just watch other people fight, and I just sit and relax in a corner or something. The "whininess" of the community (at least on these forums) is about on the level with the whininess after the two patches of JK2. The fact is a lot of people treat JA (and continue to treat) it like a patch (JK2 1.05) or an expansion and this is just round three to them. I'm not saying all of their criticisms are invalid, but it's just logical to whine about the same stuff when you see it as something that will be fixed if you complain loud enough (I'm talking about gameplay changes here...). You'll know you're dealing with these people when you hear stuff like "the battles aren't enough like the movies" or "this game takes no skill at all." I say each to his own, everybody's got an opinion. Hate JA and Raven as much as you want, knock yourself out. Just don't flame others who don't agree and besides.. what are you wasting your time here for? Most of the stuff people are demanding (beyond bug fixes) won't happen in any official patch anway, more like a new game entirely. So do us a favor and come back in 3 years and see if it's to your liking... But, let's be careful or this will turn into yet another flame thread and be closed. ; p As to the "whiners" joining games, I've been lucky I guess. The people that join my server by and large are respectful and there to just enjoy the game. I have gotten a handful of people who whined about stuff ("that was lame!" "*** lag!!" etc) but most of them either left (and didn't stick around to whine) or else shut up when they realized I wasn't going to let them run my server for me. That's the thing, you just have to be firm and put your foot down, let people know you're hosting a server of your own good will to enjoy the game, not listen to people complaining about how you're not honorable enough or question your sexual orientation or whatever. I've posted about this before, but it really angers me. Try playing another game with Free-For-All (i.e. Deathmatch, like UT2003, SOF2,STEF2, MOHAA, etc.) and see how many people you find running around w/ no weapon. You Sabers Down sissies ruin the multiplayer aspect of the game. These are the people who do all the crying, whinning, and complaining. If you want to Role Play go pick up a copy of SWG. I'd like to see a patch that addresses the server bug, the MP sound clipping issues and I'd like to see the net code worked on a bit. As far as the negativity that abounds in the JK community as a whole, well, I've learned to live with it for the sake of the gameplay that's offered. It doesn't mean that I like it or support it in any way whatsoever. I cut my MP teeth on Half-Life, Quake 3, Unreal & Unreal Tournament, the Aliens Vs Predator series, the Descent series, the Freespace series (miss that one tremendously) and I was completely shocked when I started playing the original Jedi Knight online. Back then, it was on the MSN Gaming Zone. You couldn't go in there without being blasted in the lobby by the most immature, racist and homophobic dialogue ever imaginable. It got so bad that there would be 3 to 5 admins monitoring the JK lobby at any given moment. This was new to me because my MP gaming experience at that time had been nearly devoid of this nonsense. I was thrilled when JK2 came out with dedicated server support and left the MSN Gaming Zone for good. I hoped to leave the kindergarten banter behind. No such luck. They're everywhere but they're easily ignored. I've also noticed many JA servers with admins that have a very low tolerance for the whining, name-calling, etc. I generally ignore the chat in MP JA. I'm not there to chat to begin with. There are many adult gamers in the JA community. They're usually better players, better conversationalists and better sports than the kids who play this. (sigh) It's a double-edged sword. This is currently the only MP game with the saber/sword style of melee combat. The Star Wars twist gives it an extra edge. I've conditioned myself to generally ignore the immaturity, the racism, the homophobia and anything else that I might have left off to get more enjoyment out of the game itself.
