I got it cleaned. Apparently, Ad-aware didn't find it, but I downloaded and ran Spybot and it found it. Zed, if you haven't, get SpyBot and run it.

Where did you get it at Zed? I get it whenever I goto the GeeBee forums....

I'm not sure where I got it, since i didn't see the minimized window until after. I'm sure its from here, though, because I only was visting LF at the time.

Was your changed icon a setup one? Mine was, like a computer.....

And thanks for the advice, eunning Spybot right now. :)

EDIT - GRRR. Star Wars forum is infected

The pop-up is now recieved whever you close a window that has been to LF......

EDIT - SNEAKY BASTARDS! They only appear if you go to LF, then go to a different site and close the window. I suppose this is a little better, but my homepage is set to LF, so whenever I want to go to a site, I need to go here first.

Thanks, though Chris, for talking to them. Some people are just that greedy. :(

Ok, how the hell do I sort out this Windows Media Player bug? It's not booting up at all now. I've run Ad-Aware and Spybot, cleaned everything, and it's still not working! grrrr

Go to the folder where its installed (C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player), and chose the setup_wm icon. All your playlists and stuff are still there. ;)

Hmmm, I haven't used WMP on my new computer for months (some time last year I believe) but I've noticed the icon changing to. That means I'm infected by something then?

We've had some complaints about the pop-ups, most recently is this one.

Also, who's putting up these ads, is it Ugo or is it Google? I'm alittle confused cause below the ads it says "Ads by Google". It's a link that takes you to one of Googles pages.

We've also have had a couple of complaints about the ads for various cheat sites for SWG, while we are striking hard on people making threads or posts about cheating, macroing (third party), duping etc ...., but that's a different issue. ;)

Anyway, so, I haven't checked my computer yet, but how do I get rid of whatever is causing my WMP icon to have changed?

Using both of the latest versions of Spybot Search & Destroy and Lavasoft's Ad-Aware (both available for free on this page ) should find and delete anything unwanted on your system.

Then just download and re-install WMP.

Well, the thing James Isaac is talking about only shows up for people within the UK. It's a program that pops up an installation dialogue with some small print and the larger coloured text "Click Yes to Enter". If you click No, a box appears to say that you MUST click "Yes", then it asks again. If you actually read the small print, you learn that clicking Yes will cause your modem to dial a number costing £1.50 a minute ($2 US approx.) and stay connected for 13.33 minutes (costing you just under £20 (~$30), the legal maximum for a single call in the UK).

I just got that thing, it put over 50 spyware apps, trojans and porn diallers on the PC. I am not impressed.

Worse still, once I got rid of them all, I forgot to change the homepage back to google. I got sent back to the spyware site, got re-infected and had to kill them all again.

Yeh, I just got it too (whilst trying to send a PM methinks). I *think* my virus scanner thingy stopped them before they got into the PC, but I'm going to run a full scan of the whole PC right after typing this to be sure. It did set my homepage to its site, so that might be a bad sign. I don't blame LF but I am very, very angry at whatever morons (UGO?) are ultimately responsible for this, there was a lot of dodgy stuff related to this virus-site and those freaking morons deserve some serious beatings. Hope you guys can sort this out soon, people like that should not be associated with a reputable group like LucasNetwork.

I think it's finally been dealt with:

from blue's news:

I believe that nasty U.K. dialer pop-up dealie has been eradicated. If anyone should encounter it going forward, please let me know so I can get all crazy over this again, and otherwise, a thank you to all who showed patience when encountering this, and my heartfelt apologies for the whole ugly episode.

I certainly hope they don't allow anything like this to happen again.

//EDIT

Damnit!!! It's still on the XWA boards! I can't believe this crap!

Hit in the same place as ^^^ & this time it went right thru without setting my virus alert off  Maybe I'll try this place again in a month, hopefully UGO will get off their asses & fix this ****

* EDIT* Well the KotOR forums appear to be safe for now, so I'll just hang out there. :)
