Moshing, while not my cup of tea, isn't being "sold out" just because Billy Corgan says it is. That guy, to be frank, hasn't a ****ing clue. I remember when I was in high school, I had a couple friends that were into Smashing Pumpkins. Before they exploded onto the radio and MTV. They'd went and seen them a couple times that I know of. So SP put out that one album, the double disk one? The multi platinum one? Whatever the hell it was called. My friends got it, and when SP went on tour to support it my friends were all fired up to go see them again, naturally. So they get there, and the place was packed to capacity. They couldn't get up close to the stage, because of all the Johnny-Come-Lately-football tossers and cheer leaders that showed up to hear that "despite all my rage I am still just a big dumbass rat in a cage" song. Whatever it was called. Billy Corgan actually singled out the people in the back (which included my two friends who had supported SP for years) and said something along the lines of "look at all these poser mother****ers in the back that showed up to hear the radio and MTV songs". That was the last album they bought. And the last show they went to. That guy, in short, is a tit.
Kain
Like I said, Billy Corgan was in fact an egotistical *******. And it was his ego that drove Smashing Pumpkins into the dirt. I still listen to em, but if you ask me, I'll tell you Corgan is a cockbiter. But atleast he never pulled a Deftones. That piece of **** said the fans can ****off, he doesn't make the music for them. He makes it for him. THATS ****ed up. Fame ****s with people. Some can handle it, some can't. Thank christ that KoRn could handle it. Hehe, Munky rides around on his lil motor bike for the fans. Tuomas Holopainen. Also, if there's stuff that really touches you, there's just times you don't want people misinterpretating it somehow - that goes for music as well as poetry and prose.. GothiX
Ti, have you ever tried learning what actual Satanism is? It''s barely any different from Christian beliefs, justswitch the names. And with this post, I've ultimately had it with everyone judging stuff they don't know anything about. Gah.

BongoBob
Amen Darky And why is it that almost every topic that I post eventually turns into a flame fest Kain, I have learned that no matter what anyone says about the band I listen to, I don't care. Just because I like it doesn't mean I have to go around saying "F*** j00, *insert band here f***1NG pWnS j00, *insert the other band mentioned* f***1ng SuX0Rz!11!!!1123456sevenshfourteen-teen!". Like Pie said, to each their own. About all I listen to is top forty type stuff that I hear on the radio or MTV(sans The Mars Volta). Give me a way to hear the artists before they get onto mtv or the radio, and I'll use it.

CapNColostomy
I don't really have any problem with that mentality at all. Not everybody gets involved with making music so they can have a mansion, a limo, a jet, groupies, etc... Some people make music because that's what they like to do. They write songs they like to hear, because nobody else is. Take Metalica for instance. Remember when they wrote music for themselves? Probably not, as most of you were in diapers then, but I'm sure you've heard about it. Look at them now that they cater to the fans. **** the fans. I remember After they did 3 arena-tours off the back on one album, I kinda lost interest. [/2c] Originally posted by Pal™ Where about in Oxford are you? I think I've heard of the Zodiac some place or another. I live in Didcot, about 10 miles outside of Oxford. The Zodiac's an alternative music club on the Cowley Road in Oxford, a few 'big' bands do secret/warm-up gigs there 'cos the atmosphere's so good. It's also a good place to keep an eye out for new music. Oh, and BFS still rule B.

Load, Reload and Saint Anger are far more about them and their own experiences and their feelings about them, which make them far more for themselves than the earlier stuff. I dont really care cos i love it all, but to say that the more recent stuff is catering to the fans is absolutely false.

Here, we do wonderful things like share opinions on things. And while we're certainly free to disagree, and even call someone else's opinion crap, it doesn't make either opinion the correct one. If you like it all, good for them and you. Thank you, and come again when you can stay longer. And yes, the fact that they started making more money than they could spend in this lifetime when their sound changed is just coincidence, I'm sure. Once again;

Once again; You say the change they made was catering to their fans though when in fact it was actually going in the other direction. Starting with Load they moved towards music that was introspective, more about them. They didnt do it because the fans wanted it, in fact many of the fans were upset by the change in approach but they did it anyway. That sounds like Metallica to me, be it 1983 or 1996 or 2004. Still, whether bands write music for themselves(most of which I would say they do)....you cant be rude to the fans.... whether they are old hardcore fans or preppy kids... they've all forked over the $$$ and you have to give them a good show. I think once you start hating your fans, it cant be a good sign, especially if youve done famously from their contributions to your hip pocket.......... I would never want to be a musician for this reason...... Im more suited to the pornstar lifestyle mtfbwya

•-BLaCKouT-•
1. Two tracks from St. Anger, their 'current' album. 2. One track from Reload. 3. No tracks from Load. 1. I'd have thought they'd be playing more of their newest tracks, never mind. As for 2 & 3 - does this strike anyone else as an admission of guilt? My mate saw them at Reading the other year and said the tracklist was more or less the same with regards to Load and Reload. Interesting. B. B. thats one show on the tour, other Load/Reload/St. Anger tracks have featured. I saw them at Reading as well, an awesome show which was spectacular for all present and i heard no complaints against that setlist then other than the noteably absent "Fade To Black". All in all I think Metallica are doing a damn good job of keepin their fans happy right now. jesus im doin a lot of writin bout this band atm
