ckcsaber
Wow. I can't believe what just happened. link "EA has just signed an signed an exclusive five-year licensing deal granting EA the sole rights to the NFL's teams, stadiums, and players." This is utter bullsh*t. As a capitalist economy, our nation thrives on competition. Products compete against each other in order to come out with the better product, at the better price. This year, Sega did both with ESPN 2K5. And it showed - Madden only outsold it 2 to 1 last year, as opposed to the 10 to 1 asskickin it usually gets. So, it was assumed that EA would make changes to the series in order to make it better, more innovative, and more fun, right? If you believed that, you don't know EA. With this deal, EA has basically said a big **** you to everyone who plays games all over the world. Now, if you want to play an NFL game, you have to play Madden. Now EA can put out the same damn game for the next 5 years, and people will still buy it because it's Madden, and there's nothing else they CAN play. To me, this is complete, total, and utter crap. DAMN YOU EA. DAMN YOU TO HELL. (btw, this thread is about a deal made between EA (major video game company) and the NFL (Pro American football league). jon_hill987
Well the easy way to solve this is to not buy sports games, If you wan't to play football go to a park, don't buy FIFA 200X. and if you have FIFA 200X don't get FIFA 200X+1 they are almost the same game. still that sucks, Just shows if you have the money you can do anything. KBell
Meh, they already dominated the sports area of gaming, might aswell wipe out the compition completely. Smart move EA
swphreak
Heh, well someone can still make football games. Just not football games including anything about the NFL. But either way, I don't like football, so I could care less.
Darth Groovy
EA has been making the best Hockey games since 2000. I don't know jack about Football. Sorry. *shrugs*
ET Warrior
This is utter bull. Honestly, it's a known fact that EA has dominated the sports game market for some time now, but ESPN has recently been making a push, and a damn fine one at that. So instead of trying for innovation and cleverness to compete, they use their corporate muscle to prevent anyone else from competing. Heh, well someone can still make football games. Just not football games including anything about the NFL. Which leaves NCAA football, which is okay, but this kind of crap is one reason why I am contemplating boycotting all EA products, full stop from here on out. From the way they treat their employees to the way they handle competition, EA can burn in hell.

boinga1
*slaps Tie 23* [/on topic] That's pretty... I'll say lame, to be polite, by EA. Equally lame for the NFL to agree to it. I'll be interested to see what ESPN sports has to say about it... *slaps Tie 23 again*

C'mon, all users need to do if that ever happens is keep Madden 05 and just update the rosters for free. No biggy.

I'm not saying they're going to make worse Madden games, I'm saying that the need for them to be innovative and come up with really stellar ideas and wahtnot is gone. They can just go through the motions and put out what is for all intents and purposes another clone with a few more bells and whistles. And of course EVERYONE will have to re-buy madden when they come out with it for the next-gens. Edit - Not only is this crappy for the series as a whole, it's a bull**** way for them to tank an entire sector of income from another company, not because they had an inferior product, but because they were newer and couldn't afford that kind of deal. All they have to do is make the game, add a couple things and sell the game.... Stop support after a year and mass produce another game that people will buy anyways... This monopolistic company will keep doing so until people get tired of the same game over again.

ET Warrior
Utilizing new graphic abilities of a next-gen console is NOT being innovative with gameplay.
