Actually, what I heard is that Han isn't going to shoot at all. Jar-Jar is going to stumble in and take Greedo out totally by accident.

Then he tags along with the heros for the rest of the movie, as well as the next 2. He's the one who eventually throws the Emperor down the shaft at the end of ROTJ.

...was that a joke Hermie? I mean, you know that there is one, right?

There are clips of it in Starwoids, looks quite entertaining in a kitsch kind of a way ;)

Oh, and Nalukai, you know that at least 9 of the items in your list of 12 do exist already, right?

[/geek] :)

That doesn't matter these days, They now make glasses in which a single lens does the job that the two lenses did. You no longer have to have the one blue lens, one red lens. They now make glasses in which they're combined into a single lens, in both slots.

Even if they didn't why would a cyclops buy the 3-d version?

Close but not quite...

Yes, ep 1 and 2 were total crap. But the opportunity to see the original trilogy on the big screen once again should make any real star wars fan jump in their seat. And in 3D? You are not even in a position to whine on this one...

Unless you have one eye, if so then I humbily apologize. (you wold still go see it anyways :p )

I have no problem with updating the technology of the old films.... its just like restoring the picture and remastering the sound from mono to 5.1 when they make the dvds.

The only problem I have with lucas is trying to update the CONTENT of the films.

Do a director's cut if you have to (and were screwed over by the studio or something) but then just leave it!

Having version after version of slightly changed movies doesn't help things. YOu would always do things differently when you look back on things, but that isn't to say you didn't do it right at the time.

And if you then prevent people getting the original version it is even worse.

A chance to watch the originals on the big screen is always welcome. But if he KEEPS re-releasing them too often he is going to wear out his welcome and people will get fed up.

--------

This 3d tech sounds interesting. Does it even need glasses? But directors shouldn't concentrate too much on the technology over the content. That is how you end up with shallow films that date quickly. Many of the early 70s 3D experiments (such as jaws 3D) look terrible when you watch them on tv, not just because the 3d doesn't work, but because without the 3D effects there is no plot, no characters, no decent film.

Similiarly, many of the 90s early CGi-fest films have also dated badly, as there was no depth to the plot. So once the "amazing cgi effects" stopped looking so amazing there was no reason to watch the film.

Rodriguez used 3D in spy kids 3... which was an absolutely terrible film (the first two rocked) because all it was was a series of set piece 3D scenes linked together with a paper thin plot.

and those cgi updates to the OT mamaged to last about 6 months before looking far more fake than the old model based stuff. Even with the updates for the DVD set they still look obviously fake. So, new tech isn't always the answer...

----

I wonder if this tech will work on dvd/home systems?

The one thing i don't look forward to is having to buy all my dvds again in HD-DVD format, then a year later buy them again in 3d format.

Yes, it has for about a decade. I even remember ABC's TGIF slot had an entire night where all the shows were broadcast in 3d, they sent everyone glasses in the mail. I remember it working pefectly fine.

Yeah, I was being sarcastic about all the folks who whine about updates then go and see it with the rest of us anyway. I am looking forward to anymore chances of seeing SW on the big screen. Especially since I have two little brothers who have only seen the prequals up close and personal. So, to GL, I say let's see it.

That also goes for Quentin Tarantino and the Kill Bill movies which I didn't see on the big screen. I wish he would release them as one and take out the out of color fight in the club at the end. I mean it's rated R may as well let us enjoy it.

Seeing them in 3-D would be a neat gimmick. I agree, it's changing the CONTENT (and then trying to phase out the originals) that bothers me, not updating the format its on or cleaning it up for enhanced experiences.

I've seen IMAX 3-D (the Space Station movie, I have yet to see the new "Of the Deep" ones but they sound cool).

Very nice. You wear rayban style sunglasses that combine two images. You get a bit disorented walking out of the theater (some people get headaches) but you recover in a few minutes.

Since the movies weren't originally shot for 3-D they might not look as cool as one created for it, but at least the content behind the movies we KNOW is good, so we need not worry about that part.

For the home market you just layer two images overlapping on the screen and then wear the glasses that put them together. It's an effect we already have for some video games and stuff, it's just not used much. It can work with existing material, you just use up more resources rendering the same image twice.

As for Kill Bill, I'm not a huge fan, and I understand the reason for the black & white scene but despite that, I think it adds to the artistry of the movie and is in keeping with the whole retro theme of it all. Making it color again takes that novelty away.

Yeah, I suppose so. Truthfully, I didn't think anything of it the first time I saw it, but when I heard it had been dumbed down for domestic audiences and kept whole for those overseas, it just kind of irked me.

But whether it is changed or not, I would pay far more than standard movie price to see a full length Kill Bill on the big screen, let alone in 3D.

Freaking Awesome! Give me the 3-D Star Wars big screen TV and surround sound! I already have 2 of those in my house so now it's a matter of the 3-D and getting permission to watch it on the big TV. BIG IDEA! They should make a Star Wars theater where your in the big circle thingy. I think it's called an Imax theatre or something.
