Surfnshannon
I saw this. Makes me sick. I hope he's lying. But it sure doesn't sound like it. Boy - these past few days with the news have been awful. This, the MJ trial, Peterson ass -hat, the feeding tube debate. I think I'm going to go watch Star wars now... El Sitherino
He'll be killed in prison soon enough. Cold blooded killers don't take kindly to child rapists or pretty much anyone that messes with kids.
acdcfanbill
its funny how the criminals seem to have a better idea of what to do with these people than the normal ppl in society. 'omg capital punishment should be done away with' *rapist gets sent to prison and murdered by inmates* 'ahh justice is done, and my concience is sooo clear'

Surfnshannon
I'm going to go out on a limb as a mother and say - They should castrate and GPS track all convicted child sex offenders. There is no cure - and looking at the Megan's Law site I can't believe how many of them are around my area and around schools. Ridiculous.

I don't know about USA, but according to the Statistic Central Burea of Norway, nearly 70% of all sexual offenders did not have any relapses. In other words, they went back to being normal, law-abiding citizens. You shouldn't apply the same yardstick to everybody. Many child sex offenders are disgusted of what they have done and wish to live better lives. Shouldn't we give them that chance? I belive that if we label them and shun them (as you unfortunatly suggest), this will only increase the chance of relapse.
BongoBob
Yes, but if it prevents those 30% from EVER doing it to anyone else, it's freakin worth it IMO.

And anyways, that child sex offender may have become a good guy, but that's 70%. What if this 30% take advantage and multiply their numbers? Tell me if I'm looking stupid, I'm not good at debating. <_< >_>

I haven't really studied it in a while, but I'd say it's probably flipped at the most 30% go back to normal lives. Most of the time sexual offenders just get more clever and learn how to get away with their crimes, so it could be even more. Then again, we have all these kiddy pageants and are now having shows, advertisements, etc. sexualizing little children. Porn companies are sending virtual porn (porn models digitally altered to look like pre-pubescents) samples to offenders, etc. Some genuinely wish to lead normal lives after doing their time and society over-sexualizing everything doesn't help. Not to say that I think that's a valid excuse, but it doesn't help them when they're trying to escape temptation. The problem is we're only recently trying to do psychological treatment, in AND out of prison, and even at that we have minimal funding and rarely have consistent scheduling. Originally posted by Breton I belive that if we label them and shun them (as you unfortunatly suggest), this will only increase the chance of relapse. The temptation causes relapse, the shunning causes violent reaction. Usually just slaughtering of children, defiling after death. Like a smoker or alcoholic. Shunning creates violence, tempation just destroys the barrier set between them and the drink they want.

Breton
I personally believe those 30% who do relapse are because the judical system isn't doing a good enough job on following up criminals and sex offenders, and partly because of people's reaction towards them. They become "outcasts" from society, won't get a job or a chance of a decent life. In such situations, tabu temptations might be the only thing left in their lives. I think it's very wrong to demonize these people. Many of them are disgusted by their former actions, and want to become better citizens. Sexual offenses against children is a horrible, horrible thing. But hate the sin, not the sinners.
Surfnshannon
What's wrong with GPS tracking them - I'm not saying that it should be available to regular citizens - but for police. Too many of the offenders on the Meagan's law site are not where they are registered. They've jumped ship - and if they were Law Abiding, Normal re-habilitated people why wouldn't they be honest with the police about where they are? I do hate the offenders and the crime. It is a sickness I agree - and it is not fair to shun them, but its not fair to children to release them with little or no rehibilitation to populated areas of children.... acdcfanbill
whynot gps track everyone then... no offense, but i think the govt keeps way too many tabs on us the way it is... granted you would put them only on criminals, but pretty soon it would move to criminal prevension im sure. Mr Wally
Sexual offenses against children is a horrible, horrible thing. But hate the sin, not the sinners. Couldn't have said it better good job What about the man from... mississippi, I think is was, the bus driver who was previously a sex offender that was arrested and charged because he was driving children to a camp when the normal bus driver couldn't make it. As he put it, he was trying to live a normal life and do his job. Yet he was arrested because he was not supposed to be around children. I don't remember the entire story, I just heard it on the news once, but you could probably find more info by googling it. However, the point is, that there are people that make a mistake once in their lives, pay the price, but aren't ALLOWED to go back to living a normal life because of our government.
