The Island

It comes out tomorrow, who is planning on seeing it? I think it looks pretty interesting, but also pretty weird. I will probably see it tomorrow.

Here is a review for the movie. 7/10 is what it got in that review, not what I was expecting. Still, I'm optimistic.

That bad? Hm, I'll have t check it out over there then.

EDIT: It seems like most of the people who don't like the movie have a strong dislike for any michael bay film.

and its a shame, too because i was looking forward to watching Ewan McGregor perform outside of Star Wars. :(

Thats one of the reasons why I wanted to see it as well. I haven't seen him in anything else, but he was so good in Star Wars, he must be pretty good outside of it.

If you haven't seen Ewan McGregor outside the Star Wars films, check out Trainspotting, it's his breaktrough movie and is very good. He also has nice performances in Moulin Rouge, Brassed Off and Black Hawk Down, to name a few...

I plan on seeng The island, but living in Europe, I'll probably have to wait a couple of weeks, it has just been announced here.

I was just wondering, today, when someone was going to start a thread on it.

I'll probably go see it, and probably that AI fighter movie as well, just because they look interesting,

I don't always trust reviews, because no one ever seems to share my views on movies:p

I forgot he was in balck hawk down, that was a good movie:cool:

Dont a site tell you what movie sucks or what doesnt. Ive never like Roger and Ebert, because in all the years they were on, I think I agreed with them once. Sometimes you can tell from watching trailers, sometimes not.

Or if you must read reviews by sites, read them objectively. Lots of reviewers watch movies simply to pick out whats wrong with the movie (theyve been doing it since the 1800s - reviewing plays and then giving scathing reviews). Read them, then go see the movie (if you really want to), and then you can agree or disagree with the sites/people.

^_^

Oh, and The Island is a remake of two movies from the era of bad scifi: Logan's Run (which I loved), and the Omega Complex (I think thats the name). The last movie is about the same thing as the Island. Everyone has a clone, and one clone actually escapes a complex from somewhere and eventually he finds his original... and from there its about how they are trying to bring down the complex and expose it - it wasnt as good as Logan's Run.

if you want a straightforward summary of a large number of critics are saying about any particular movie, check out http://www.rottentomatoes.com.

this site works like this: they get a review (or have it submitted) and take the rating (the 'star' number) and translate it into a scale from 1-10. if the rating is 6 or higher, the movie is deemed 'Fresh' (or good), while ratings below that mark are deemed rotten.

then, the total number of reviews that are deemed 'Fresh' are counted and divided by the total number of reviews and translated into a percent figure. usually, the number of reviews for a movie that has been released for at least a day is over 100, so this system does tend to be quite accurate at telling you if the movie is worth watching or not.

Well, I saw the island yesterday, and I must say, it was better than I expected. From the horrible reviews itgot, my optimism had dropped a little. There were some pretty disguisting parts at the beginning, but I thought the plot was (though twisted) pretty good. Good ending too. I recommend it.

Trainspotting is a good film to show people why they shouldn't do drugs. Even though I have always been drug-free, the scene where he crawls into the toilet after his heroin suppository was enough to keep me clean the rest of my life!

As for The Island, it will likely be on my "wait for DVD release" list.

Yeah, I think that's weird that they release it different dates for different countries. Weird.

And that is why I dont take reviews at face value if I have any intentions on seeing the movie myself. ^_^

I don't see or not see movies based on what reviews they got, but they can alter my opinion of the movie before I see it if they are different than I expected.
