Wait a sec...so after a page of what seems like linux-fanboyism from you, you say you're gonna stick with win xp?

On topic, I like the name, but I can emulate the side bar thing w/o vista.

Thats okay, my computers are on from appox. 9:00am to around 1:00am, maybe one restart once but otherwise they run all day.

So 30 extra seconds is no skin off my nose... bitch.

And I seriously doubt that Vista will require 1 gig, most computers have 512mb. And why would it require so much, anyway? >_>

Alright, then that makes sense.

And technology leaps forward quite fast, by the time it comes out, more people might have the tech needed for it standard.

Just a thought.

*cries at 384mb of ram and xp2000+ processor and 32mb GeForce2 gpu*

What standard? :p

From the look of it, it's just XP with some widgetesque things.

Battlefield 2, to even run that game properly you need 2 gig of ram. But if they fixed all of the bugs and performance issues I'm sure that you'd only need 1.

Check the specs:

Desktop CPU: 3 GHz Intel Pentium 4 processor with HyperThreading Technology 530 (or higher) or 3 GHz Intel Xeon processor with 2 MB L2 cache, or AMD Athlon 64, Sempron, or Opteron 100, 200, or 800 processor, single or dual-core versions.

Mobile CPU: 1.86 GHz Intel Pentium M processor 750 (or higher), or AMD Turion 64 Mobile Technology, Mobile Sempron, or Mobile Athlon 64 processor.

RAM: 512 MB of RAM or more, all platforms.

Thats too high.

what game needs 2 gb of ram huh I don't know of one

Well, lets put it this way, when "vista" comes out, machine will need 512 RAM to run the OS. That means a game that currently recommends 512 RAM (HL2, D3) will now require 1 GIG of RAM. Why? 512 for the OS and 512 for the game.

I doubt it will use all 512 megabytes for the OS, but my Windows XP 2D crap uses around 200 + MBs of RAM. If this is really 3D, then it will be like running a game constantly.

Imagine low frames per second on your desktop. Thats going to suck, and I can see it being a problem.

On the other hand, all the pics I have seen look like Windows XP with a new theme: You know, new start menu, status bars... new little buttons. It really doesn't seem 3D...

I would almost go as far as to say that its just like Jedi Academy (Jedi Outcast with a paint job.) But I really don't know, I could be totally wrong.

I'll probably buy a new PC in a year or two that comes with Vista preinstalled, so that way it should come with the necessary specs + more.

I dont get it... my RAM says 0% usage and 5% CPU on my comp just with FireFox on. I don't get it. >_>

And how can you know what life is without Windows running when playing games? The specs of computers are adjusted for the use of Windows/Mac/Linux at the same time. If they could make Windows much more efficient, that would be great. But people shouldn't complain, unless it takes more.

Get it?

Well, looks like the only question now is:

Why upgrade?

Because I've heard Bill Gates is going out of his way to make it so that old software won't run on this new Windows version. Just like Windows ME-or-earlier games and programs have problems on XP.

So if you want to play a game released after this new Windows version, you don't have a choice:mad:.

Question answered for you:D?

Yes, because those decisions are made by Gates.

While Gates could make Windows more efficient when it comes to memory and processor usage, he won't. Neither will game developers. They can always produce software that renders amazing graphics, like the screenshot above, for lower ammounts of RAM and Processing power.

You see, theres this thing called money. And theres this thing called progress. By making Windows and Video Game hog memory and CPU power they force us to update, making them richer. By Gates forcing all software devs to make games "Vista Only" it forces us to upgrade. Although a lot of this high spec crap is because of Windows stealing our computer power. Look at consoles - no OS (or a really small one) that can run beautiful games with less than 128 RAM?

The GCN and PS2 both have less than 64 RAM, yet they can run games that have psycho specs on PC. Their processing power combined is less than 1 ghz.

GCN - 32 RAM 300 Mhz

PS2 - 24 RAM 400 Mhz

... I think...

Why are you saying this is a decision by Gates? It's not, he has very little matter in the way all of this plays out. He's a figure head, he doesn't make decisions of how the software will work.

Please stop being another ignorant anti-windows/microsoft/gates fanboy and blame the corporate runners.

I know, when I was like 11, I asked my dad if it was possible to turn everything, every process on your computer so it would spend all resources on the game. Hes a computer wiz but I dont remember what he said. But really, there should be a program that shuts down everything and uses its own, tiny OS to run games. So instead of having 70 things running on your computer at one time, you would only have 2 or 3. Whats the big deal? Make the computer run like a computer, but when it starts running a game, switch into console mode.

XNA?

Do you speak English as a first language?

If so, it would be a lot more easy to believe you were a "PC Specialist" if you used proper punctuation, learned 1st grade spelling, and knew how to properly use a keyboard.

If not, disregard the above message.

On-Topic: I'm not planning to upgrade either, XP does me fine. Not to mention the specs stated by Bongo are stupidly high.

Thank you. It makes everything clear.

Yes, there are ways to get very close to that, but they are a bit awkward.

Blackviper's site describes a lot of things you can do to get there.

Basically, you need to set up a second Profile that has every service, background application, and piece of hardware you are not using to play games totally disabled, and switch to that profile when gaming.

It's not a perfect solution, but can free up a lot of resources being chewed up by unneeded background junk.
