World of 1944 - Europe under fire

Recommended Posts

Unlike most RPs themed on WW2, this takes place a few months after D-Day and starts near the city of Blois, between Tours and Orléans. The Germans there have been on heavy defence for a couple of weeks now and the allied paratroopers attacking there are discouraged. We start with the arrival of reinforcements, gathered of the scattered remains of some infantry and ranger units

Name: Thomas Barnett

Nickname: Tommy, Tom, Eagle

Nationality: American

Rank: Staff Sergeant of the 101st Airborne Division

Weapon: Thompson(SMG), Colt .45 Pistol and the standard issue knife

Bio: A veteran of many airborne assaults. He was amongst one of the first men sent into France on D-Day and quickly rose up in ranks as his superior officers fell on the battlefields and his skills in combat became noticed. His Squad usually likes to play around with the thought of what's his profession back in the states, but he usually plays along and gives them false leads, just to make the guessing more juicy.

Thomas walked around the camp, watching the city carefully. He could hear a panzer moving somewhere and the Nazis' 'Schnell! Schnell!' shouts. He stopped next to a Corporal and sighed. "They're up to something..." he said and took his binoculars up to his eyes. The city lights were bright in the early morning as most of the citizens weren't yet evacuated. Mostly because the germans thought that the allied couldn't breach the MG nested fields around the city and wouldn't bomb such a small target. He placed the binoculars back into the bag o his belt that was meant for the binoculars. "How the hell can we get in there without getting shot by the MGs? Those bloody germans keep reinforcing them when we shoot with snipers and we don't have mortars that could take them out for enought time that we can get past" he said and shook his head. He was the highest officer around, as all the other Staff Sergeants had fell in raids against the germans. He alked over to his squad's tent group and sat down next to the campfire

"Right now we wait for the reinforcements, then we'll look at the situation" he said and turned to Emilio. "You really don't have to crawl around. The Germans know we're here" he said, rolling himself a cigarette and placing it onto his lips. "And our campsite is quite secure" he added before he lit the cigarette and loked around.

"Johnson! Gimme the map!" he shouted and the intel officer threw a bag at him that the Staff Sergeant catched. He opened it and looked at the map of the nearby area

Squadron leader Pimms walked thtough the camp looking for the Staff Sergeant. He saw the man he was looking for holding a map surrounded by a couple of soldiers.

"Staff Sergent, can you please tell me what i can do i'm starting to fell like a fifth wheel around here."

"I wish someone could tell me what to do. The German MG nests keep us pinned here and the reinforcements haven't arrived. We could start an attack but I really don't think that we can get into the to-" he sad but he was cut off by the noise of bombers. He closed the map and threw it onto the ground before rushing to the edge of the forest. Thomas took his binoculars and looked up at the plains. He noticed the symbol on the side of the plain and then saw the flak guns starting to blast the plane. He put his binoculars away and rushed off to the soldiers. "We're going in. The R.A.F. is doing a bombing run on Orléans and flies above here. We can take advantage of the flak gun noise and sneak in. Get armed and let's go. Quietly!" he ordered and got his thompson and an extra rifle. "Peters, leave your camera! We need you on the field!" he shouted and threw the rifle at the journalist. He looked as the soldiers got their weapons and formed into their squads that left to sneak towards the town in the tall grass one by one. The staff sergeant waited for his squad at the edge of the camp

Jack caught the rifle with one hand and secured his camera to his belt. He stared briefly at the rifle before moving to join Thomas.

"I'm damn glad I've had experience with shooting moving targets," he muttered. Then a little louder, he said, "Ready, Sargeant. The camera's away, rifle's ready to play... if need be."

"Shut it, Peters. Okay, squad. We're goin in fast. Stay as low as you can and throw your smoke grenades in the middle of the field. We need all the cover we can get" he said before he crouched down and le the group into the grass that hid them with only a part of their helmets showing but what was shown was hidden by the darkness. The first flashes started at the other side of the field as Dog and Tango squads reached the edge of the field and attacked the MG nests. Then more flashes as Delta and Bravo squads reached the other side and advanced even closer to the town. The movement of Thomas' team was swift and soon the screams of civilians and germans were heard as the Germans told the civilians to get away from the town. When all of the squads finally got to the edge of the town, the panzer shot for the first time in this battle. It hit the holding wall of a three-story building that fell down into a few piles of rubbish. The panzer kept shooting while the 101st moved into better positions, opening fire on the tank and the german troops around it. The staff sergeant gathered his squad behind a building near where the tank was an quietly gave them instructions. "Get into good positoins and cover me while go and try to destroy the tank" he said and peeked around the corner, took his Thompson ready and opened fire at the MG that had the other squads pretty much pinned down, surprising the germans and killing the one shooting the MG

Jack hid his amusement. Despite how few 'journalist style' questions he asked, he suspected he still wasn't the most liked person traveling with the 101st. Journalists had the bad reputation of misinterpreting or twisting the facts of an event to make it more interesting to their readers. But Jack Peters was intent on proving to the 101st Airborne Division that he was not such a journalist. Any questions he asked were asked to better his understanding of how war truly worked. Nothing in his stories would be fiction. Nothing would be exaggerated. Plain and simple fact was his game and he was damn good at it.

The staff sergeant checked that the squad was ready to cover him and then dashed towards the tank, taking out two grandes. As the squad covered him and killed germans, he sliped the grenades in throught the ventilation holes and ran back. "Go, go, go!" he shouted and pointed them to cover. He quickly turned behind the building's corner and looked at his squad. The panzer blew up and he got ready for the crew that would come out. The hatch ontop of the tank opened and a soldier rose up. The Staff Sergeant opened fire and the soldier dropped onto the side of the hatch. "Check it out" he said to a captain that walked carefuly towards the tank. The other squads quickly went around, securing buildings as the captain peekd inside the burning tank. He gave the thumbs up for Thomas, which gave the order for the squad to secure the area

Nickname: Hawk-Eye

Age: 21

Nationality: Caucasian(white)

Rank: Corporal of the 101st Airborne Division

Weapon: M1 Garand, Scoped Springfield, .45 Colt 1911 pistol, standard issue knife.

Bio: Voluntarily joined up with the 101st. Has been with the 101st since the first drop in Normandy. He was recently transferred under Barnett's command, but has earned quite a reputation since his first day in the big time as having a sharp eye, and soon earned the nickname "Hawk-Eye" for his sharp sight and sniping capability, with or without a scope. He prefers rifles, due to their higher ranged proficiency, but is just as accurate with a Thompson SMG or a BAR. Also has a liking for German weapons, occasionally tries to pick up a Kar98 when he can for later use.

Other: A very obedient soldier that follows orders without question. Has come through on several impressively difficult situations and is a reliable soldier.

------------------------------------

Corporal Taylor moved with the rest of his squad to secure the area. He quickly attempted to find an adequate sniping location, clearing out the building he entered as he climbed to the second floor, then lowered his M1 Garand and drew out his Springfield rifle. He opened fire on any German soldiers that he could spot, his eyes darting around quickly and firing without hesitation.

- "I love that sound" - Sean said to himself.

Thomas sneaked closer the tank again, shooting germans that he spotted. He looked around carefully and then looked behind him. "Peters, Jackson, you're with me" he said and left towards the marketplace of the town. The other squads had made it posible to get that far already and now half of the town wasin their control.

The noise of cars was suddenly heard and the reinfrocements arrived with the trucks of the 5th Ranger division. They stopped next to the marketplace, unloading the reinforcements and then backing off into cover from the upcoming firefight. The staff sergeants waved for Peters and Jackson to hurry up as he ran to the reinforcements. "It's good to see you guys. Who's the commanding officer here?"

"Krustofski. He's over there. Krusty!" he called out and pointed at the officer that looked at them from behind a booth. The staff sergeant nodded and rushed over to the booth.

"Staff Sergeant Thomas Barnett, 101st Airborne" he introduced himself and Krusty nodded.

"Corporal Herschel Krustofski, 5th Rangers"

"The Germans are pinned down and we've got a nice foothold. We surprised them, so it's good that you came. They'll be very agressive after this point"

"Rangers, lead the way!" Krusty shouted and the rangers started running across the marketplace.

"101st! Let's go!" Thomas shouted and led the airbornes into battle with the rangers. The rest of the reinforcements, formed of scattered british infantry divisions followed while the sound of a hastily put-up MG sounded, starting to get casualties from the allied ranks

((Yeah, I meant Jackson WJ, I lost it there for a second))

Corporal Jackson ran behind Staff Sergeant Thomas. Before they could ran out a corner Jackson heard a shot. It came from a balcony in a church. The bullet missed his arm by almost nothing.

- "Sniper on the church balcony!" - Corporal Jackson said.

Corporal Taylor had rejoined the squad as they started to move out. He heard Jackson's call and drew up his M1 Garand, and fired a suppresing shot. He drew out his Springfield and aimed down the scope.

The German had moved back out of hiding after the suppressing shot and aimed down the scope of his Kar98. Taylor wasted no time in pulling the trigger, nailing the German in the head.

He slammed the bolt forward and drew it back, loading the next round into the chamber, and moved the Springfield onto his back, drawing up his M1 Garand once again. He called to Jackson, "Sniper taken care of!" He advanced with the rest of his squad, firing at any axis soldiers visible. He was able to get sight of the mounted MG42. He fired at the soldier behind it, taking him down, but it wasn't long before the soldier was replaced by another. Taylor sighed, and shouted over at Staff Sgt. Barnett, "Sergeant! We have to take down that MG42, they're just going to supply it with another soldier if we keep taking them down. Can't we lodge a grenade by it and take it out for good? I'll provide any covering fire needed if that'll work, sergeant."

Jackson heard ATP.

- "Damn, gonna miss a chance of blowing stuff up" - Jackson said to himself and aimed his machine gun to the MG42 another soldier came out and he shot him in the head.

- "Whoa Ten points!" - Jackson said.

"I'm on my way." ATP said as he crouch-ran around to flanking position. The germans didn't notice him. He was a small guy. He climbed up into a building, so as to get an elevated position on the gunner. With the most accuracy he could muster and tossed the grenade. It landed nicely in the bunch of them, two ran the other got blown up, along with the MG42.
