REDJOHNNYMIKE
The last quality space sim I've played was the excellent Freelancer. It's been a while, and I was wondering if anyone else has found any good ones? I've seen one called "X3" on the shelves, but I don't know if it's worth getting? Vladimir-Vlada
X-Wing Alliance like Rogue Nine said (although I don't know where can you get a copy of it. I can't find it here) and probably X3, if you like long and complicated piloting in space. That's all I could think of.

Vladimir-Vlada
Geez, 18 dollars. That's a little steep for an old video game, don't you think?

Vladimir-Vlada
what do you expect, it's a classic that is no longer freely available... So it was avaliable for free a while. Too bad, I was thinking of downloading it several months ago.
Bob Lion54
^^^ Freely available just means its easy to find. I've seen one called "X3" on the shelves, but I don't know if it's worth getting? I actually bought that one. It looks cool, but I could never get it to run right on my computer. It was really choppy. (think Dantooine) The last quality space sim I've played was the excellent Freelancer. Thats a great game. Its a bit repetitive after a while, but still loads of fun. There are a lot of mods for it too. I love flying in a Babylon 5 Star Fury! Heres hoping for Freelancer 2!
BattleDog
Digital Anvil is dead, Microsux killed it. No FL2. It was sin to release a space sim without joystick support anyway.

Hmmm, either you are making a silly play on the word freely, or you are just being silly(by discussing downloading copyrighted material) take your pick Vlad. I suggest you keep your comments on the game, and since you havent actually played it, by your own admission, it really means that you dont have much to say here at all... * * * XWA is easily one of the most absorbing flight sims ever created, with an absolutely wonderful storyline which links in with ROTJ/Battle of Endor all fans of SW+Flight sims are crazy if they havent played it ! mtfbwya

He means stop posting because you have nothing to contribute to this thread and you're only digging yourself into a bigger hole by taking about downloading something illegally. XWA was never made available for public download. I recommend you take his suggestion to heart and get out of this thread.
Carthaholic
TIE-Fighter is the best space sim IMO. I still have it installed and play it once in a while, I have to set it to low res 'cause of stupid windows XP tho...
REDJOHNNYMIKE
@Astro, Don't be hatin:D Back in the day "Descent" was the only game I could afford:lol: And Kotor was one of the only SW games I could ever get to run:( Is Mikey still able to bring it back under a different dev, F2 would be a welcome addition to my 360:D

Prime
If you are going to play X-Wing Alliance, be sure to head over to the X-Wing Alliance Upgrade Project. Lots of new updated models and such. Makes the game look new...

In every greatest games list I've ever seen, Tie Fighter is always in the top 10. Though I haven't played in a while and can't run it anymore (some conflict between my joystick and the game running under XP), I still recommend it to anyone who wants some good old space sim action. It'll blow your mind.
Jackel
Digital Anvil is dead, Microsux killed it. No FL2. It was sin to release a space sim without joystick support anyway. Actually the biggest problems with the game were the lousey markets that never changed (you always knew the price of item A at location A), the level system for the ships and weapons. The control system was actually pretty good, I expected it to suck but when you get in to it it is pretty easy to dodge, roll, slide etc with the mouse and keyboard. Bob Lion54
I can't believe I forgot about this. Have you you tried Tachyon: The Fringe? Its one of my favs. Its a bit older, so unless you find it in the bargin bin at EB Games, you won't find it in stores. However, I did find it on Amazon.Tachyon: The Fringe @ amazon.com Oh, and I almost forgot. Your charactor (Jake Logan) is voiced by The Groovy one, Bruce Campbell. That alone is worth playing the game.

This is why the next time I go back home, I'm taking one of my old computers, formatting it and putting and older version of Windows on it, just to be able to play TIE Fighter again. The game is just that good to have an entire machine dedicated to it.
