Nalukai Posted June 16, 2006 Posted June 16, 2006 yep its true... in 2008 he will step down to chairman status, guess since he owns 50% of the world he doesnt need to accomplish anything else.... http://www.usatoday.com/money/industries/technology/2006-06-15-gates-microsoft_x.htm
Datheus Posted June 16, 2006 Posted June 16, 2006 Eh, this only seems to matter to metabusiness stock market men.
Lightsaberboy Posted June 16, 2006 Posted June 16, 2006 yep its true... in 2008 he will step down to chairman status, guess since he owns 50% of the world he doesnt need to accomplish anything else.... Don't you mean step down as chairman, since he's been that for quite a while now?
Sabretooth Posted June 16, 2006 Posted June 16, 2006 O_O A geek idol has died. Really, I hope the Soft takes a turn for the better without him.
Darth Groovy Posted June 16, 2006 Posted June 16, 2006 2008? That gives him more than enough time to declare himself emperor of the free world. Suddenly I feel the need to watch A View To A Kill again...
jon_hill987 Posted June 16, 2006 Posted June 16, 2006 I'm not really bothered about bill gates stepping down, I'm sure M$ will go on the same without him. What i want to know is when is Tony Blair stepping down?
TK-8252 Posted June 16, 2006 Posted June 16, 2006 Don't you mean step down as chairman, since he's been that for quite a while now? No, he's still going to be chairman, it's just that he's stepping down from his active position in the company.
swphreak Posted June 16, 2006 Posted June 16, 2006 From what I've read, he's not leaving Microsoft, he's just not going to be as active as he is. He's planning to focus on his charitable organization or something. No big deal. I'm sure someday his kids will own Microsoft or something.

Well hopefully they can stop from being the greedy bastards they are with him not running the show anymore
Det. Bart Lasiter Posted June 16, 2006 Posted June 16, 2006 Yeah, that's how I heard it. Well hopefully they can stop from being the greedy bastards they are with him not running the show anymore He's not greedy, he's just a shrewd businessman. If he hadn't say, donated millions (possibly billions) to various charities over the years, then yes, I'd call him greedy. I don't think the fact that he's going to be "quasi-retired" in 2008 is going to change anything though.

He only did that because he knew the govenment were relying on the huge amount of money in tax they would get from him.
TK-8252 Posted June 16, 2006 Posted June 16, 2006 He only did that because he knew the govenment were relying on the huge amount of money in tax they would get from him. Good for him then. Money is always better off in the hands of a charity than in the hands of bureaucrats.
El Sitherino Posted June 16, 2006 Posted June 16, 2006 He only did that because he knew the govenment were relying on the huge amount of money in tax they would get from him. Right, because you know what goes on in his mind. Nevermind the fact that even before he made Microsoft into one of the largest grossing companies in the world, he consistently made donations to charitable organizations when he was younger, and continues the practice to this day. Stop being a trendy, crap spewer.
BongoBob Posted June 16, 2006 Posted June 16, 2006 Right, because you know what goes on in his mind. IG-64 Posted June 16, 2006 Posted June 16, 2006 If he hadn't say, donated millions (possibly billions) to various charities over the years, then yes, I'd call him greedy, It's billions. According to wikipedia, he's donated about 52% of his total fortune. And in 1999 his fortune briefly went surpassed $100 billion. So that tells you something.
swphreak Posted June 17, 2006 Posted June 17, 2006 Yeah 'cause, you know, creating his own charity foundation is an evil corporate scheme to keep billions from the government. I wish other gazillionaires would do the same.
Datheus Posted June 17, 2006 Posted June 17, 2006 He will still have an active position with the company. It's just that he won't have an active position in the design process of the software. He's going from half programmer, half businessman to full business man.
