Anyone else played this game? I recently got it as a gift and it's very good...

It's a space shooter basically, but you get to choose your own path and stuff, be a merchant, pirate, good guy, etc...

It's got a very SW feel to it, especially the space battles, you sometimes feel like Han in his MF, or luke in his X-Wing if you prefer.

Here's the official site: Clicky

And here's a very good fansite with resources, screens etc... Clicky

It looks and sounds to me like a mixture between, KoTOR and Never winter Knights (minus the weird spider things and vampires and elves)

You couldn't be more wrong :xp:

I own the game too, and it's actually a Space-sim. You can (relatively) roam the universe, land on planets etc. When you land on a planet, the game turns into a management-thingy. You can then purchase new ships, cannons, countermeasure, etc etc.

I found a modding site for it too:

Mod..mod...mod

True, but you don't really 'level up.' You do level up, but that's because the game can then improve difficulty reasons etc, and every level you get a story-related mission.

You do get to choose youw own path, but I think it isn't that...'big.'

There are only a few very cool factions worth joining, imo.

I use to play this online all the time, It's a very good game, but once you've been everywhere and done everything you don't see the point in doing it all over again. It gets very samey and hasn't got much replayability. Saying that it can take a very long time to do everything. It's basically a freeroaming and open ended game it's like GTA:Vice city but in space and without all the M rated material in it.

All in all it's probably worth the cost (which can't be much as it's 2 and a half years old) and better than alot of original Sci-fi Games.

From the descriptions it sounds a bit like the old game Escape Velocity:Nova, though with 3d graphics. Do anyone know if they are the same type of game, graphics aside? I played EV:Nova (and the original EV and EV:Override before that) quite a bit a few years ago and it was lots of fun.

Well yeah you do level up, and it allows you to buy better equipment, ships and stuff as well...So in a way, It's kind of a Space-RPG isn't it?

Not really! Its a flight sim foremost, with an added RP element. Quite fun. believe there was a SW mod...which I never checked out :(

Yup, I played Freelancer for a while when it first came out. It has a fun SP campaign which I do play through atleast every 18 months. I got quite hooked into the MP worlds, it had a great and very busy modding communitty, I was starting to learn how to mod that game when KotOR came out which snagged all my free time ;).

The MP is great, but only if you can find a server with well defined rules and clans to limit the amount of exploiting that is available in the game. ( the diamond run from New Berlin to New Tokyo can make a cargo ship owner huge profit. ) I'm pretty sure those are the two planets. heh well it's been a while since I've played the game but I know you can pick up diamonds really cheap on one of the big Rhienland planets. and Tokyo is where you sell them, I'm certain of that. ;)

Cool game, great graphics for it's time( it will still please the eye) and distinct Factions.

Freelancer is an excellent space-sim game. And the best of all, it is so pc friendly that you can use your mouse and still have perfect control over you ship. This is a game from those long-forgotten times when console games were released for the consoles and pc games were released for pc-s...

For the old-timers (you all know who you are) it's the modern version of Frontier - Elite 2. Or for the not-so-old-timers it's the modern version of Wing Commander/Privateer. Ex Origin (Origin being the company that made the Wing Commander series and Privateer series) employees worked on Freelancer and it shows.

This is a 10 out of 10 points for everything. Graphics that still work today, gameplay with the right "feel" to it, freedom and modability!

Go buy this game right now! It will be the best 5 dollars you've ever spent!
