I usually like to follow the Game Console modding forums and sites and recently I noticed that Sony has been putting out bu-ku security updates within thier FW (FirmWare) for the PSP and this strikes me as a little dumb to tell you the truth. I love the PSP and all of the things that come along with it but it seems more and more like Sony is becoming too obsessed with securing the PSP. There is also another reason this is kinda dumb to; as some may know there are a lot of people who LOVE to mod the PSP and everybody knows whatever Sony may throw at them they will crack, it ALWAYS happens even if it takes a little time. So those are my thoughts on the PSP's FW and security updates but you are free to agree or disagree with me.;)

Yeah but look at the stuff that they are shooting down because of those FW updates. There are millions of essentially GOOD homebrew programs out there that upgrade the PSP's preformance to make it easier or more fun for the user to use, then you have these FW updates coming out that make it so you have to upgrade and unless you do you cannot play some of the new games that come out. I just think it is a little self-centered of Sony to do that as they are just one game system among many better ones. I also have a problem with the memory sticks they use, they basically made the PSP so that it could only use thier product and I think that is wrong!

lolz...the PSP is a lame duck. It's sales figures are floundering. Given its technical superiority, the fact that it's being hopelessly outsold by the relatively underspec'd DS speaks volumes about Sony's failure with this device. Their will be a PSP2, lets hope they get these things right:

*Internal HD.

*Cheaper games - here in OZ a DS games is between $50-70. A PSP game is usually $80-100(unless pre-owned, really old etc). Its a major difference

I had one, and sold it for MORE than I bought it for, as it had original firmware 1.50 on it :)

Everyone should stop putting Sony down. Anyway, I'm guess they're there to keep us safe

Pottsie ! what the heck are they keeping you safe from ?? Do you keep all your credit card and taxation details on your psp :p

The more obsessed Sony gets, the more people go out of their way to counter it. "Undiluted platinum" has breathed some life back into the PSP homebrew scene. ;)

@ Astro: I'll quote a post I wrote in my forum... well today actually lol.

I haven't played the PSP version, I should though... but I don't know anyone with a PSP x.x Well I used to but they traded them in XD

lol, everyone always goes back to the whole PSPvsDS thing when the real killer to the PSP was the PS2.

Disagree about the whole movies on PSP thing... though if you're talking about doing it without UMDs, then yes, I do agree lol. The PSP is pretty decent with music, but what really makes the PSP shine is everything illegal and shady and homebrew... in the end, the PSP has few good titles even though it is getting some decent support from developers. Overall, agreed that the PSP has better features outside of gaming, but the fact is that it's all halfbaked and if there was a PSP2, perhaps Sony should pitch it as a multimedia device that can also play games rather than a gaming device that has multimedia features.

When it comes down to it, a lot of people like the PSP because of its lack in security...

trueism. I and many others imported 1.50s from HK/JPN for this very reason.

Every single person I know who had a PSP traded theirs in, generally to put towards a Wii/360. Several have a DS Lite, and since I found out about Final Fantasy III, Sonic Rush and Nanostray...well I had to get a DS :p

The peeps at EB near where I live say the only people getting PSPs are little kids with rich parents :p The older gamer crowd have ditched them for the next gen consoles, and DS(to a lesser extent) They were almost giving away those blasted UMD movies, $10ea!! No one buys them.

Silly Sony. Lets hope they learn for psp2. I fear they are going to make another ubersystem that no one can afford, and call it a computer while theyre at it :D

Admit it, you just want to download porn on it:lol:

No. Actually I want to mod the living hell out of my PSP actually. I could care less about porno and really anyway I think people who do that are desperate.

I agree with you there. A lot of people prey on the PSP's easily crackable security and why shouldn't they. A PSP is a compueter in a sense so why shouldn't modders be able to crack the security on the PSP and put thier own stuff on it if they know how. That is what really angers me about Sony and like I said up there in my first post they think that they are making an uncrackable firmware when they are just pissing off thier customers and don't even get me started with that stupid PS1 emu that they promised as a stand alone emulator for the PSP and decided to only allow it to work if you had a PS3. That was a real unbecoming thing that they did. In anycase though I think that Sony needs to chill and do something that the customer wants rather then what they want... for a change.

Pretty much the only reason people buy PSPs is for the Homebrewz. getting PSX, SNES, GBA games on your PSP is awesome. im stuck with a f**king 2.81 thats not downgradeable (yet) and playing flash games and getting mac on it.

True about the FF III thing, but I hear they messed up with the Sonic title, all the speed has been taken away...
