He looked at his bottle , half empty already .

" Darn these things are small . "

Even had been watching the man covered in skulls. That was disturbing. He probably was involved in some stanic Necromancy, or sorcery, if there was a difference. After all, how shouyld he know, he didn't dabble in that. Why, Even thought is he being allowed to travel with the caravan? We already have too many cuckoos you have to watch you back around.

"Oh, it's not all the eyes, Aya," Carwyn replied. "Your bowstring proved to be of excellent quality. And I never waste arrows if I can help it," he told her. "Always gotta be aiming at something. That's half the battle." He slowed a bit as he came upon the second arrow, this one stuck in the ground at a more acute angle than the first one had been. It also had an apple on its shaft. Pulling it off carefully, he held out the apple to Aya, his eyes twinkling. "Hitting whatever you're aiming at is the other half."

Kyo smirked. "I think there's a bit more to it than that."

"Yeah, that sounds more like a life philosophy than a mere archery tip," Aya commented.

Just as she was taking the apple from Carwyn, Akira approached the trio. "Well there, looks like I still haven't been introduced to this beautiful donkey," he joked.

Bob's ears suddenly pricked, and he quickly shifted his weight and kicked out with one of his back legs. But distracted by the apple in Aya's hand, his aim was off slightly--only glancing Aikira's backside with a heavy, shaggy hoof.

"Bad, Bob! He was only joking!" Aya quickly chastised the pony. "No apple for you!"

She turned to Akira who was brushing himself off. "Are you alright?" she asked, knowing that he probably was since Bob's blow hadn't been full on target. "Please excuse Bob," she continued. "He's rather sensitive about his appearance."

She looked at Carwyn, then Kyo, then shrugged. "Suppose that when you're aiming, you have to contend with distractions as well." She gave a quick sideways at Bob. "You ever train horses?" she asked the pair of them.

"Ah, see," Carwyn began. "Philosophy has never been my strong suit. That's why I like to keep things simplified." He held up the arrow he'd just picked up. "When you're in the middle of a scrap, you don't have time for complicated thinking. I know there's a lot more to it, but I like not having to think too hard about it," he said. "Distractions make things more complicated yeah, but as long as I keep it simple in my head, I'm usually good."

He peered ahead. "Now where is that third arrow... I'm hungry."

Aya nodded at Kyo. "Well, I suppose Bob has his moments." She gave Bob a sideways look. "But for the most part, he's a good pony. We sort of look out for each other. And he manages to carry a lot more things than I could. When we get to Ryuu-Tokai, I'll sell the bolts of cloth. That'll lighten his load up. And his mood," she added, giving Bob a forgiving pat on his neck.

She spotted colour up ahead. "Arrow off the port bow, sir!" she called out to Carwyn, pointing to the fletchings she had spotted.

She grinned. "Trying to get into the sailing mood," she explained to them. "I don't like the sea that much. Don't have 'sea legs'. I'm not exactly sure how one goes about getting them, but they're a lot harder to get than a 'sea stomach'. I don't have any trouble getting one of those." She paused a moment, looking at the apple in her hand. "That's why I had a large breakfast," she continued, as she tucked the apple in to her skirt pocket. "Figure it would be better to sail on a mostly empty stomach. So, what about you guys? Do either of you like sea travel?"

Carwyn nodded. "I've been on a fair few boats in my time," he said. "It's an interesting experience. Not something I can see myself doing for a living; I love my woodlands too much." He trotted up ahead and pulled his third arrow out of the ground, apple and all. Using the arrow as a sort of kebab stick, he took a bite out of the apple. "I usually like the crow's nest," he told them, his mouth full of apple. "Great vantage point."

"Its not half empty, its half full."

" Your're right about that !" : said Bora Cho , laughing with loud burst of pleasure . After that the last half of the brandy went in smoothly .

" Look at that ." : remarked Bora Cho while he played with the empty bottle .

Istergard turned to Quanon, ang laughed.

"Now its completely empty, thats a shame." he said giving the man a light pat on the back.

"Not long till we get to the boat, you might want to Shober up when we get there. Don't want you falling off!"

He saw Akira and went up to him.

"So why are you doing this trip?" Istergard asked, looking at the others in the wagons.

Even didn't have to bother with these people just yet, not until they were on a ship. "Irothio, permission to go ahead of the caravan?" Permission was given. Walking quickly by himself he soon reached the tiny port town where their boat was. He had a good boat for them. Even went to meet with the captain of the Yistopia Whale

((OOC: Sorry I haven't posted - been busy. Anyway, let's get those show on the road, shall we?))

A bit of a commotion began to ripple back from the front of the caravan after a few hours of being on the road. Curious, Kyo climbed onto the wheel-shafts of the nearest wagon, clinging to its side as it continued to bounce along. He peered over the heads of animals, people, and carts to look at the horizon. The silhouette of a city rose out of the plains, dark and undifined in the midday sun.

"Port Haru." he murmured to himself. They would be there in under an hour.

Even found the ship's captain after much trouble. "Captain John Stily? Even Crossblades." The captain looked up from his work. "Ah! Our next client. Good. I have the ship all ready for your crew." Something had been bothering Even. If I may ask, sir, how many seamen besides yourself have you got on board?" "Two." "TWO!" Even couldn't believe his ears. "HOW CAN WE MAKE A VOYAGE WITH TWO SEAMAN?" "Well, you said the party had experienced sailors." "AN experienced sailor! Captain, this is a short trip, but I must say I'm starting to doubt this mission." "So am I. But, crew or not, the Yistopia Whale will make it accros the strait in less than 5 hours." "Tahnk you captain. The caravan will be in port shorty." "The tide will go out and we can leave in aabout four hours." Even went back to the caravan, which was now nearly in the city, and asked Kyo, "Do we have a boat picked out for this mission? And how many sailors does it have?"

Arriving at the docks, Aya and Bob joined the queue behind the wagons as people began prepare for boarding the ship. Ship? It was more like a ferry really--wide berthed and with a large ramp that led into the cargo hold where the animals and wagons would be kept during the voyage.

Aya sighed as it came their turn to board. Bob was getting restless. She patted him reassuringly and then gave a gentle tug on his lead. "C'mon, Bob," she said calmly. "I know you don't like boats, but it's only for a short while. And I'll stay with you. I promise."

Her words seemed to calm the pony enough for him to step up on the ramp. In a few moments, they were on board in the dim hold. Aya found a space for him in the corner, between a team of oxen and an their unhitched two-wheeled cart.

She leaned against the cart, stroking the blaze of white down Bob's nose to keep the pony calm as the rest of the caravan boarded.

"When we get to Ryuu-Tokai," she said to him, "you can get a big drink of water, and a nice bag of oats, and then go to bed in a nice, cozy stable. Promise."

She would stay with Bob in the hold for most of the way there. It was dank and smelly in the hold, but at least down here she couldn't see the horizon bobbing up and down and making her sea sick.

Kyo dropped down the large, square opening in the deck, landing in a crouch between two wagons. If he stayed down here, out of sight, he couldn't be asked to help out on deck, could he?

He slipped into the back of a covered wagon, leaning back against the side, his legs folded beneath him. Setting his pack next to him and pulling out a peice of wood and a blade, he reveled in the silence.

The wood wasn't large, though it was round and thick enough for his hand to wrap around it, and his thumb and forefinger almost touched. He had cut it from a peice of firewood back at the camp, knowing he would need it on the final leg of the journey. Beginning to shave away the outer bark, he allowed his mind to wander.

His grandfather had always taught him the importance of dilligence. Often times he would take him into the small yard behind his home, hiding different objects for Kyo to find. When he was young, it would often be treats. Perhaps an apple, a sweet roll, or maybe a candy. His job would be to find small differences in the yard, which eventually led him to the prize. As he grew, the hunt became harder - his grandfather would cover his steps, come up with more creative hiding spots. But the prizes also became better - often times he had recieved small coins in return for his work.

This was the first lesson his grandfather had taught him.

Thinking of it now, Kyo turned to a question that had often crossed his mind when the thought of his grandfather.

How did he know?

How had he known that Kyo would one day become a wanderer; that he would one day have to rely on such skills to survive? Had he told his grandson the story of the Obake Blade in hopes that he would one day try to find it? Or... was there something more?

A flap of canvas lifted on the wagon Kyo was in.

"Skiving, are you?" Aya poked her head into the wagon. She grinned and winked playfully at him. "I didn't think you were the type.

"But, since you are down here, you mind looking after Bob for a couple of minutes? There's normally a water barrel up on deck and I just wanted to fill up my water skin before we get underway."

At that, Bob's nose poked through the canvas, snuffling near the warrior's head.

"I won't be but a few minutes, but I hate to leave him alone. And Bob seems to like you," Aya added. She lowered her voice to a whisper. "He doesn't like sea travel much either," she said conspiratorially.

Bora Cho looked at the ship . It looked bizar , he had never seen such a big boat before . High up in the mountains where Bora Co used to live there where no rivers where one would easly use a boat on .

In fact he couldn't remember when he had ever seen a boat . Heard some wild storys about whale hunters .

But surely a boat of this size was safe and stable . He walked up the ramp like the others fo the caravan did .

A strong chill breeze kissed his cheek , Bora Cho filled a chiver run through his spine . The north awaited , time to change ...

Carwyn hopped onto the ship and made a beeline for the mainmast. Picking his way up the footholds, he slung himself into the crow's nest near the top. It was a simple affair, just small wooden platform with a makeshift railing made of rope. But it was more than enough for the ranger, who had grown up climbing in and out of trees. Latching onto the mast, he leaned over the side, looking down at the caravan getting loaded onto the ship. A breeze whipped up and ruffled his hair into his eyes. Carwyn turned into it and breathed the fresh sea air.

It was going to be a good little voyage.

"Ah, I see." Kyo answered quietly, leaning away in surprise as Bob poked his nose in, the swordsman's hair flying as the animal snuffled a few times. He reached forward to tie the flap back and was met with a dark, curious, and dully intelligent eye staring at him.

"I think I can keep my eye on him." he said, looking at the creature.

Aya soon disappeared to the deck above, leaving Kyo and the horse alone in the murky darkness. The swordsman turned back to the lump of wood in his hands, continuing to scratch at it, though after a moment he found he couldn't slip back into that non-awareness he was in before. It felt too much like...

He looked up again, and Bob hadn't shifted half a centiemeter, his baleful eye still blinking at him.

"Hm." Kyo murmured, looking at the horse. "What's your reason for traveling to Ryuu-Tokai, huh? Did Aya drag you along, or don't you mind?"

The horse snuffed again, blowing Kyo's hair back.

"I see." he said, his eyes seeming a bit far off now. "What is she really like?" he murmured. The horse continued to look at him.

"Is she really as warm hearted as she seems? Or does she have another agenda?" he continued to speak, as if the horse was able to answer. "I feel like I know her...she, like so many others, is far too easy for me to read. But at the same time...it seems that there's something essential; something big that I'm missing..."

Now the horse moved. He clopped forward a bit more, and nudged Kyo's head a few times, the swordsmen vainly trying to push him away.
