DeadYorick
Is anyone here a Stephen King fan? Stephen King is undoubtedly my favorite writer. I have currently read most of his Bachman books, Christine, the Dead Zone, Cell, Firestarter and Carrie. Most of his movies were good as well. Anyone here a Stephen King fan? Miltiades
The Dark Tower is about the most awesome thing you will ever read... [/thread] My brother read a lot of Stephen King these last months. He says 'The Dark Tower' after almost every sentence...
Corinthian
The Dark Tower went downhill after The Wastelands. Wizard and Glass was an enormous cluster of Roland reliving his teenage years, and while it was a decent story, it was so...out of place. And A Song of Ice and Fire is better than The Dark Tower, Negative. No Book-long flashbacks.

Wizard and Glass was a key book in the series IMO, it explained a lot about Roland's persona, which gives the whole story much more depth. ISoIaF isn't my cup of tea really, as it seems a bit too LotR-ish to me, whereas Dark Tower includes so many different elements (Western, Different decades in NY, Fantasy, Sci-Fi, etc...) and references to King's other work that it really is his Opus Magnum, and one of the most awesome stories I've ever read, but that's just my opinion
Jvstice
I liked dark tower series, not the ending so much, because it felt rushed to me. Did you ever read the Talisman and Blackhouse which he cowrote with peter straub? This dualogy tied in to the dark tower and had an interesting mythology all of it's own. As far as the Bachman books, I first read thinner when i was 19, in 1992. I was waiting on a small bowel transplant, and literally worried about wasting away. Needless to say, I've never had a book before or since ever mess with me to the same degree. It was also around this time that I discovered the dark tower series, though only the first three books were actually published back then. I've since caught up with the whole series and loved it. Insomnia and Eyes of the Dragon are probably my two favorite novels by him. I also loved the short story "the body" which became "stand by me" from back in high school. Reading "the Stand" was one of the things that my wife and I bonded over back when we were dating.

Negative Sun
Stephen King is single handedly responsible for most people being afraid of clowns nowadays...If there is or ever was a clown union, the knew who to blame for their demise!
montnoir
Wizard and Glass was a key book in the series IMO, it explained a lot about Roland's persona... ...and this was something the other FIVE books couldn't do? Riiiiight... King at his best is mediocre and as such hugely overrated.
Negative Sun
...and this was something the other FIVE books couldn't do? Riiiiight... King at his best is mediocre and as such hugely overrated. 1) Not if you've read the books, the story ties in nicely after the events of the first three and sets it up for the events after that as well. 2) Opinions differ
montnoir
2) Opinions differ No they don't. There is only one opininion in the whole world shared by everyone. Ask mr King if you don't believe me, I'm sure he will write you a book in 7 parts of 5000 pages each. As long as you pay him by the word of course. If you on the other hand pay him a fixed predetermined sum, then he will write you the same story without leaving anything out, but in a minor novel of 150 pages. And a couple of other things: 1. I 2. just 3. love 4. using 5. numbers 6. too

Negative Sun
There is only one opininion What's an "opininion"? It sounds fun Btw, if The Shawshank Redemption, The Body (aka Stand By Me) or The Shining is mediocre in your opinion then I don't even want to know what you would consider to be great...
