Achilles
Barack Obama for President Friday, October 17, 2008 THE NOMINATING process this year produced two unusually talented and qualified presidential candidates. There are few public figures we have respected more over the years than Sen. John McCain. Yet it is without ambivalence that we endorse Sen. Barack Obama for president. The choice is made easy in part by Mr. McCain's disappointing campaign, above all his irresponsible selection of a running mate who is not ready to be president. It is made easy in larger part, though, because of our admiration for Mr. Obama and the impressive qualities he has shown during this long race. Yes, we have reservations and concerns, almost inevitably, given Mr. Obama's relatively brief experience in national politics. But we also have enormous hopes. Q
So the Washington Post supports Obama. What a shocker.
Corinthian
Was this not a foregone conclusion? Are we talking about some other Washington Post?
Achilles
Yes, clearly they've been entirely in the bag for him, considering that they are waiting until now to endorse either candidate when most major newspapers did so months ago. What's that smiley again? Oh there it is
mimartin
Big surprise the “so-called” mainstream media endorsing Obama. What does the "so-called" right wing media have to say about that.
Inyri
Just heard on our local news program that the Chicago Tribune has endorsed Obama as well. That paper has not endorsed a democratic politician in 61 years.
mimartin
Yea, the Chicago Tribune and the Nashville Tennessean both shocked me.
Q
Now those two actually are surprising. The Washington Post's endorsement is not.
Jae Onasi
Yea, the Chicago Tribune and the Nashville Tennessean both shocked me. Washington Post supporting Obama? Totally not a surprise. The surprise is that it took them this long to finally get around to saying it outright. Tribune endorsing Obama? That's indeed a surprise, especially since the Tribune runs towards the conservative side (not sure where the Nashville paper is on the political specttrum). However, how important are any newspaper endorsements anymore? I don't think people are nearly as influenced by these as they were 20 or 30 years ago. Web Rider
Well McCain got a big endorsement. Which is kinda surprising since I think they endorsed John Kerry last time under the auspices that he would end the war. Al Queda is apparently as fickle as Americans.
