Some days I just feel Artistic.

I started working on a new picture on Friday of an winged figure flying from the depths of a World gone to Hell, breaking through clouds into a sea of heavenly sunlight.

It didn't work out.

Instead, I got this:

It's not quite finished, but I was hoping for some comments/suggestions before I go into the final stages, which consists of importing it into Lightroom and doing a rehaul of the colors in the skies -- Putting more pinks and reds on the left and adding greens and brightening the purples and deepening the blues on the right. Then, when that's all finished, I'm going to change the composition of the two images a bit, put it on a different background, and viola!

Also, I know the sun is more abstract than the moon and the rest of the picture. I dunno. I like the sun the way it is.

That looks great Wally, the clouds look amazing (I like clouds). I looked for anything that might need tweaking, since you're asking for advice and the only things I could find were: check the opacity on the layer of the girl in the day version, I can see through her a little bit :p

Also, the island in the background needs to be blended into the image better, as it is it's just kinda floating out there, a little out of place. I would recommend moving it to the night side of the image for 3 reasons: the night side being darker, it would blend better (less contrast) and make more sense being so dark; it would also be less distracting since right now it's really close to the couple and it takes some of the focus away; finally, the night side has that blank space where the ocean is and I think the island would look really nice filling that up.

And, lastly, I think the ocean needs a little something to spice it up, maybe some sparkles or something?

But those are just a few nitpicks, the rest of it is perfect. Great work.

Ah, thanks IG!

That comment about the island is actually a really good idea. I think I'll move it over tonight. I didn't notice transparency issues on the girl, but I'll take a look at the layer when I get home tonight after rehearsal. And as for sparkles on the water, you're talking about for the night side, right? I can do that pretty easily.

Thanks for the help!

Any more comments?

Looks really good, Wally. =) Loving the colors and everything. What did you make it in? ^^

As for the girl, I see it too, could be because my monitor is pretty bright. Make sure the layer is completely black. :3

Agreed with moving the island. Have you tried placing it on the horizon line?

I threw this together at school during my off period. I dunno about the changes. I like the island on the right, and I like the direction that I'm going with the water, but something seems off.

On the other hand, maybe it's just me. Thoughts?

I do have to ask, though, what's with your obsession of the silhouette of a couple staring off into majestically beautiful scenes? If I remember right, you had a picture where the couple are stranded on an island in space doing much the same thing, except presumably dead because of the lack of oxygen.

This is a very good question.

I really like space. And I really like skies. And I really like people.

Two of those things I'm good at drawing, one I'm not good at.

Therefore, black outlines + full bucket FTW.

EDIT: I think I may have the final version of the images.

If I notice any changes or get any suggestions I fix it up tonight, then upload a higher resolution.

Actually I did blur it a little bit because I thought it wouldn't be realistic to have to perfectly crisp if it were off in the distance, perhaps it was too much, but I don't think I'm going to worry about it. On the full res version you can still make out the grass and everything.

I'm submitting it to the school Art and Literature magazine, but that's it. I've never really looked into anything else.

Nah, I don't have one.

I've thought about joining Deviant Art, but I never really got around to it.

That's the kind of quote they could use in some sort of weird advertisement...

...And he never became an artistic super star, don't let this happen to you. Don't be a MrWally... Join Deviant Art today.

Pretty hot stuff there Wally, idea is a little cliche but execution is ****in' spot on. Big props, dawg.

  • 3 weeks later...

Bump.

Lexx mentioned getting a Deviant Art page and I finally got around to it.

I'll be uploading more as time goes on. I don't have all my work on this computer, anyways.

Feel free to comment and offer suggestions if you have a DA account :D

Also, you can view the 3000 Pixel wide image I posted here in all it's full-res glory.

:D
