danjo33
hey guys, i appreciate everything done to try and get KOTOR 1/2 to work on vista. sadly, i have done everything listed many times and no luck. KOTOR 1 runs just fine, but 2 crashes after I make my character. Meh. anyway, i've given up on that on vista, do you think Dual-Booting XP would solve the problem? I've had the urge to play those games, and while I do have KOTOR 1 working, i've played that way too many times and only want KOTOR 2 at the moment. Thanks. ferndavant
Okay, I've followed all of the instructions in the bold post TWICE. Here's what happens: I get in, I create a character, I watch the opening movie (this all goes off without a hitch), then the movie ends, I see the mouse cursor, and I hear a droid squealing. Then, Boom!, Kotor2 has stopped working. I've turned all the graphical options to their lowest settings, and turned the anisotrophic doohicky both off and on. Is this cause I have an Intel Graphics Chip? I've got it changed to blit. Is there ANY way I could get KOTOR2 running on here? Kotor 1 ran fine. It crashed every now and then and I had to turn off the grass option, but otherwise it worked great. ETA: I didn't even configure my Vista PC to run Kotor 1 and I didn't have any significant problems other than the dantooine lag problem which, as I said, I mainly solved by turning off grass. Q
Are you setting CPU affinity every time you launch the game? Try posting your specs and we'll go from there: Post your system specs Sometimes we're just not going to be able to help you if we don't know what kind of hardware you have on your machine. If you don't know what you have on your machine, then follow these steps below: Bring up the launcher menu for Kotor 1 or 2. Click on "Configure". Click the "Scan Hardware" button on the lower center of the window. Click "Yes" to continue. Click "Details" to view your system specs. Click "Save Report" and save the file to your desktop. Whenever you post your problem, open the file you just saved and copy and paste the contents to your post.

Jaden_Korr
:-S I have, and I get the exact same message as before..."An error has caused SWKOTOR2 to stop working, blah blah blah" So...I don't know what I can do...call LucasArts and get replacement discs? Anyway, if you can help, great, if not, well, I'll just keep poking around myself and see what I can do. Thanks again! Q
The reason I asked is that I can tell from your swconfig report that you haven't done the Dantooine lag fix, and Fullscreen needs to =1 under both "Display Options" and "Graphics Options".
Jaden_Korr
Oh...heh, sorry...didn't think that actually had anything to do with the game itself crashing, considering I can't even get past the opening crawl. Will re-try now. Thanks. EDIT: Got it! Sorta...I'm still tinkering to perfect it...but so far I've seen gameplay! What I've had to do is undo the read-only mode of the folder, subfolders, and files of the entire KOTOR 2 folder, I set it clear back to Win95 compatibility mode, I'm running as administrator, I've disabled visual themes, disabled desktop composition, and disabled display scaling. Like I said, I'm gonna tinker, because while I've seen a game, A) it's only been once, and B) it didn't give me an opening movie or anything...just straight to my character. EDIT#2: So here's the problem. I still don't have a solution, but this may be beneficial for future tinkerers with more technical knowledge than I. The bug lies somewhere within the first CG cutscene (which I still haven't seen yet). Anyway, I know this because if I set compatibility mode up to XP, or simply above Win95, it'll try and display cutscenes like the opening crawl, etc, which work fine...but then when it goes to CG, it dies. If I set the compatibility mode down to Win95...no cutscene, and then the game works fine. Laggy, but fine. I figure I can save and then re-load...see what happens. Like I said I hope this helps somebody to get some sort of official, rather than cobbled-together fix like this out there.
Q
Everything is supposed to be set to XP SP2 compatibility mode, including setup.exe when you install the game. Did you: 1) Update DirectX 2) Patch the game 3) Replace the mss32.dll with the one fixed for Vista 4) Replace the swkotor2.exe with the one updated by SecuROM 5) Do the Dantooine lag fix 6) Set your Intel graphics driver's flipping policy to "blit" 7) Set CPU affinity to a single core in Task Manager every time you launch the game That's just off the top of my head. Calenwen
Hello, I've just installed Kotor 2 on Windows 7 and I can't make it work. When I launch the game, I have a black screen just after the video, no main menu or nothing, and all I can do is reboot my computer. I try the installation as explained in the first page and the nvidia fixes mentioned there but no change. I think the problem come from my graphics card because if I launch Kotor 2 with the Intel chipset it work (until I decided to create a character and begin a game...then it crashes of course) Anyway here is my specs, if you have any idea... EDIT: I just thought of something--KOTOR 1 works fine on my computer, no modifications needed...dunno if that's significant or not don't replace your discs or anything, this is a simple fix it tends to happen on online games like GUNZ , but in some cases it does happen on discs. its is caused by a patch file compatibility issue either with the actual game, edited file ( in this case probably that ) or a .dll . Its happened before and what has happened is this 1. u did all the stuff in the second post 2. u patched the game and it interfered with something 3. S*it started :0 the fix ( a few solutions/ideas ) 1. do a complete reinstall 2. uninstall directX ( don't reinstall until after you reinstall the game ) if it asked you in the install proses say yes, then download the latest verision ( they will run alongside each other ). 3. If you have tried everything possible i have nothing to say but contact the manufacturer(s) / developers / costumer support / or return the game from where you got it and get it checked NOTE: save the patch, run it in compatibility mode with win xp sp2 and as admin. tredsaw
Hi, I hope it is ok to post in this thread! I've been having major problems trying to get SWKOTOR to work with Windows 7 64 Bit. I've followed the large-print instructions on the first page to the letter, however I still get varying problems. Sometimes I can play for a good 30 minutes or so before a graphic glitch happens, sometimes I can see flickering on the menu screen which generally means theres problems instantly. I've attached the log from the launcher. It says that my graphics card fails, but I have tried with various versions of the 64bit drivers - 186.18, 197.45, 258.96 using driver cleaner and cc cleaner each time. I've tried putting all graphics setting to the lowest and using the nvidia control center to set my settings, but each method just eventually results in the same conclusion - graphics glitches crashing the game. This is the first time I've played this game and I would love to complete it, but this has now become more than frustrating! Please help me ps I have been seeting the affinity to use only 1 core also, not sure why only 1gb of ram is found in the launcher, I have 4, and all showing fine in dxdiag. Q
You shouldn't have to set CPU affinity with Windows 7; it's done automatically. I'm using Windows 7 HP x64 and Nvidia's 258.96 drivers. Here's my swinfo.txt for comparison (well, at least the important stuff): [sWKotOR] ReportDateTime=8/8/2010 7:16:19 PM SysInfoVersion=v1.00.60 GameExists=1 GameVersion=v2.10.427 GameInstallLocation=C:\Program Files (x86)\LucasArts\SWKotOR2\ [OS] Name=WinXP Version=Windows XP v5.1 build 2600 Service Pack 2 Service Pack=None Status=Pass [swapFiles] ?:\pagefile.sys=0 [CPU] CPUCount=8 CPUSpeed=2833 CPUFamily=6 CPUModel=10 CPUStepping=5 CPUVendor=Intel CPUName=Intel® Core i7 CPU 930 @ 2.80GHz Status=Pass [Memory] RAM=4096 Status=Pass [Disk Free Space] C: (NTFS), UNICODE=535.04GB M: (NTFS), UNICODE=613.96GB N: (NTFS), UNICODE=141.14GB Status=Pass [CD-ROMs] DriveLetters=D:\,E:\,L:\ Drives=Optiarc DVD RW AD-7260S,Optiarc DVD RW AD-7260S ATA Device,TSSTcorp CDDVDW SH-S223B,TSSTcorp CDDVDW SH-S223B ATA Device [Video] Video Card Name=RDPDD Chained DD Video Memory=4096 Desktop Resolution=0x0x0 DirectX=DirectX 9.0c (4.09.00.0904) OpenGL Version=3.3.0 OpenGL Vendor=NVIDIA Corporation OpenGL Renderer=GeForce 9600 GSO/PCI/SSE2 NVidia Driver=(null) Vid Card Status=Warning Vid Card Driver Status=Fail GL Status=Pass DX Status=Pass [Audio] Sound Card Name=@oem27.inf,%xfi.devicedesc%;Creative X-Fi Audio Processor (WDM) Status=Pass ;Game Options from swkotor2.ini [Display Options] FullScreen=1 Disable Movies=0 Disable Intro Movies=0 Sort Modules=1 Width=1280 Height=768 BitsPerPixels=32 RefreshRate=60 [sound Options] Music Volume=28 Voiceover Volume=28 Sound Effects Volume=28 Movie Volume=28 Number 3D Voices=32 Number 2D Voices=32 2D3D Bias=1.00 EAX=3 Sound Init=0 Disable Sound=0 Force Software=0 [Graphics Options] Anisotropy=16 Frame Buffer=1 Grass=1 Soft Shadows=1 Shadows=1 Brightness=57 EnableHardwareMouse=1 FullScreen=1 Disable Vertex Buffer Objects=1 RefreshRate=60 Width=1280 Height=768 V-Sync=1 Texture Quality=2 Anti Aliasing=8 [Game Options] UnlockedPlanetSongs=3 Enable Tooltips=0 Keyboard Camera Deceleration=2000.000000 Keyboard Camera Acceleration=500.000000 Keyboard Camera DPS=200.000000 TextureVariation=1 BodyVariation=0 AppearanceType=175 PCGender=0 GameCompleted=0 CurSithLord=0 Hide InGame GUI=0 Use Small Fonts=0 Hide Unequippable=0 Tutorial Popups=0 Subtitles=1 Mini Map=1 Floating Numbers=1 Status Summary=1 Enable Mouse Teleporting To Buttons=1 Mouse Sensitivity=44 Difficulty Level=0 Auto Level Up NPCs=0 Mouse Look=0 AutoSave=1 EnableScreenShot=0 Reverse Mouse Buttons=0 Reverse Ingame YAxis=0 Reverse Minigame YAxis=0 Combat Movement=1 TooltipDelay Sec=1 Disable Movies=0 As you can see, it gives me the same song and dance about my video drivers failing, but the game still runs fine. The first thing that I noticed between our two swinfo reports is the game version. Here's mine: GameVersion=v2.10.427 Now, yours: GameVersion=v1.03.514077 My game is patched and I'm using the swkotor2.exe file updated by SecuROM. Have you done any of that? Christos K
Isn't 1.03 the KotOR up to date patched version? Are talking about KotOR 1 or 2 here?
tredsaw
I should have explained this is KOTOR 1, updated with the 1.03 in 1st post and also with the .exe, I'll try replicating your settings once I get in from work, thanks.
