Does the PS3 version of games offer anything extra?

With the fall deluge of games approaching, I'm weighing options for what games to buy for what system.

Modern Warfare is gonna be for my PC, just because CoD has always been on my PC. Games that I'll focus on for Multiplayer automatically go to my X360 because xbox live is the best game networking setup. But for single player games like Arkham Asylum and Assassins Creed 2, I kind of feel like I owe my PS3 a bit of attention. Sure with live, I get achievements and points and all that but I really don't care TOO much about stuff like that.

I know that the PS3 has a more robust graphics processor, so I guess my main question is for my single player games, will the PS3 offer any improvement in graphics and smoothness in frame rates, or is it just more a tossup of what system I prefer?

in reality there will most likely be no difference in terms or representation UNLESS you're playing a port. a good example would be Orange Box on 360/PS3 the ps3 version runs at half the frames and looks watered down in terms of graphics.

PS3 with actual SONY games you will see better quality in terms of graphics because they know how to use the product. but for the most part most games will ultimately look the same on PS3/360.

i do not own a ps3 just because everything i play i can get on my 360. but if your 360 is your multiplayer haven. Then i would definitely get my singleplayer fix on my ps3.

RRoD used to be an issue with the 360, but now it's a thing of the past.

In terms of multiplatform games for the PS3, I personally stay away from buying them for the PS3. They all play a lot better on the 360 to begin with even if one or two of them may have extra content for their PS3 version.

The only PS3 games I do have are PS3 exclusive games...

LittleBigPlanet

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots

Uncharted: Drake's Fortune

Valkyria Chronicles

It's a short list, but I do have 20something blurays... and that has been the best part of the PS3 for me (aside from the fact that I got it for free)...

How did you manage getting a PS3 for free?

Bought a Sony Bravia... came for free :D

On the other hand, I actually did go out and buy myself an Xbox 360 Elite... but I only bought one because there was a deal where you got 4 games with it. The LEGO Indy + Kung Fu Panda double pack as well as Halo 3 and Mass Effect... was a really good deal I couldn't pass up.

Another thing about the PS3 is that everything requires "installing"... you download anything, whether it it's a demo, full psn game or an add-on for a game and it needs to be installed. So not only do you have to wait for it to download, but then you have to actually wait for your PS3 to install the damn thing as well.

There are quite a few other quirks the PS3 has that the 360 is a lot better with.

I think Batman: AA is one to get on the PC if only for the PhysX support. I put my old 8800GT back in my PC as a dedicated PhysX card alongside the GTX275 that replaced it at the weekend just to see what it is like on high. It looks amazing when all the papers that littler the floor flutter up as you spin around to bash in someone's head and how steam parts as you walk through it.

You are getting it on PC then I take it.

Nah, I played the demo on PC and it just feels like a Port. Controls are all weird and not customizable. Plus, it's for my lil bros to play too and they don't get a turn on my gaming rig ;)

Looks like Sony wins this round.

Pfft, you ran out of choices. A crappy PC port, the inevitable RROD... your PS3 lucked out. Because there is basically never an incentive to choose a PS3 version over a 360 version. Usually graphics or the frame-rate are slightly worse.

It's a rarity for Sony when looking at the exclusive Joker bullsh*t that they have a multi-platform game with any kind of positives on their console.

No one has voice chat at all. Load times. Game installs. No music options. Less robust community. System updates that clock in the tens-of-minutes to get. The terrible joke that is Home. No cross-game invites. No achievements. Usually people have fewer friends on their PS3 than on their 360. The feeling of pity that you get that makes you feel obliged to get a PS3 version of a game every once in a while to make you not feel so bad for how you may have paid over $600 for two years ago for a console that you play probably twice a week.

Though, I'll probably be picking up a PS3 at some point just to get my hands on The Last Guardian, you know, when that comes out in like three years or so.

Yeah, my previous console had been a PS2 which I had nothing but love for so when upgrade time came, I thought PS3 was the right choice. But after I got tired of Ratchet and Clank, and really felt no desire for any of the other PS3 exclusives, it's basically just a rockband platform/blueray player. It's definitely getting Arkham Asylum by sheer luck alone. But even so, no matter how great the X360 is, it can't compete with a working console when it's friggin broken.

Well played Sony. By sheer lack of options, you win. :D

Agreed, but then Rare was gutted around the time after Perfect Dark (the original for N64) was released and it never recovered after that... and even Rare being nowhere near 100%, Microsoft is still doing pretty well for itself on the exclusive front.

In fact, all 3 home console platforms are.
