Te Darasuum Mandalor
I have a cool idea for a new conversion mod. Who is interested? PEACE, it has been five years since the defeat of the last cult, the SITH TRIUMVERITE and the fall of DARTH TRAYA by the hands of the Jedi Exile. Jedi Grandmaster BASTILA SHAN has rebuilt the Jedi order and the lost Jedi have found their rightful places by her side. Above the outer rim world of Bespin, a small republic capitol ship, The New Hope, led by Admiral CARTH ONASI begins engaging Mandalorian pirate ships on route to Corasaunt to escort a mysterious young Jedi known simply as THE APOSTLE, the last surviving follower of Revan. Lord of Hunger
I'll be honest with you here because you're probably going to get harsher responses: Total conversion mods are really not popular on these forums. Why are they not popular? 1) Because they are giant projects that require years to complete. 2) Most of the people who come up with a total conversion for either KotOR game have had little to no experience in modding. 3) The ideas for the conversion are almost always unoriginal (I'm not saying that this is the case of your idea, I don't know enough to say so). 4) They almost always completely fail in a heap of modding drama, flame wars, and wasted bandwidth. Now there have been three exceptions: 1) The Jedi Masters: While I would not say this is a quality mod, the modder Trex worked extremely hard and had a few original ideas. 2) Revenge of Revan: There has been significant progress made, and the chief modder Logan has really done his homework in both modding techniques and storyline. 3) Doc Valentine's Conversion: Can't remember the name off the top of my head, but he's put a lot of work into it...albeit sporadically. Fact is, very few people take total conversions seriously and I doubt you'll get much help. I wish it were otherwise, but that's the truth of the matter and I'm just trying to be honest with you before someone posts the same thing in a very snide manner. If you are willing to put the time in and try to learn hardcore modding at the expense of other things you could be doing, however, kudos to you and best of luck. Te Darasuum Mandalor
Thanks LOH, I just wanted to get my ideas out in public, thats all. I totally understand what the problem is. Besides, the concept isn't very original.
Seth Clearwater
By the way the Mandalorian home world is called Mandalore xD not Mandaloria Haha...
Azzameen
To be exact, Mandalore is the strangers' name for the leader of the Mandalorians, and their homeworld. In the original Mando'a, the people's, leader's, and planet's names are "Mando'ade", "Mand'alor", and "Manda'yaim" Literally meaning "Children of Mandalore", "Leader of the Mandalorians" (not sure about that one, though), and "Home of the Mandalorians" Also, the title of Jedi Grand Master was an invention of Luke Skywalker, to unite the splintered Jedi Council in (I think) 27 ABY. Mando'ade are not pirates, they're more like mercenaries. The KotOR Mandos were the broken clans trying to do what Mandalorians do in such times: Fall back and Regroup. Also, with Canderous uniting them, I highly doubt that they're much of a threat to the Republic anytime soon. The main capital of Manda'yaim, called Keldabe BTW, is not anywhere near the size of Iziz, but the maps yould be used, yes. Mand'alor doesn't have a hall or palace, his "government house" is the local cantina, and politics are made over a glass of black ale. And just an opinion, but nobody in their right mind lands on Nal Hutta. A different opinion: Interesting stuff. I'd really love to see that mod done, but it'd take years. But I'd really like to read the story behind it.
Seth Clearwater
Also, the title of Jedi Grand Master was an invention of Luke Skywalker, to unite the splintered Jedi Council in (I think) 27 ABY. That is not true, there were many Jedi Grand Masters... back before the Jedi Council was even created and also during the reign of the Jedi Council. One such Grand Master was Yoda. And just an opinion, but nobody in their right mind lands on Nal Hutta. That depends on what is going on. In war time, Nal Hutta is a very valuable planet, because if you control the Hutts then you control many worlds. Such as Jabba, if you controlled him, then you would control Tatooine. So Nal Hutta is valuable...
vanir
LoH put it succinctly. If you have dedicated mod skills and you're well on your way to completing the work you can attract a team like satellites helping you along the way, but total conversion mods are about as much work as creating an entirely new game using an existing shell with none of the recompense for what is in effect full time employment contracting. Kotor and TSL are essentially full conversion mods of the aurora game shell used for Neverwinter Nights. So even reusing many areas already in TSL is just a very small part of the work involved, in scripting, voicing and diologues, skinning and populating reused areas, skyboxes, gameplay and plot development, sidequests, plot quests, villains, you're still talking about 85% of all the work that goes into developing a whole new PC RPG from scratch and all for free. You're looking about 2-3yrs in development to the debugged finished product and not one cent in return for an entire team of contracted full time employees. So far most major conversion/added content and toolkit development mods have been undertaken as proxies by computer programming/engineering students to further develop their skills. I understand in tertiary studies several personal projects are required as part of the curriculum which contribute to your final grades, some of these are supposed to be uploaded and distributed among the freeware community, both to develop reputation networking and prove the programmer can tender usable products on demand. In this case by the time the mod begins really developing but is still far from completion the learning value of the project is already achieved, and their skills may be displayed with partial mod examples to the lecturer or small independent projects based off the mod. The mod developer loses interest and has more important commitments finding paid employment doing precisely the same thing, which invariably then takes up all their future time. In other cases you have professional, employed programmers offering toolkits to the freeware/mod community out of simple graciousness and a sense of community, and some free time that they happen to have. But the hours they spend to develop these toolkits, scripts and mods are really worth cold hard cash and we can only be eternally grateful for the kindness and charity they display offering them for free. Here, asking them to undertake years worth of unpaid employment is simply out of the question. The final conclusion is that dedicated, long term and labour intensive mods are generally undertaken by those capable of doing most of the work themselves and then the community swings into gear to assist them along the way, as more modders become inspired by physical examples of the work achieved thus far. Otherwise fairly conservative, situational mods, or the kind of mods some folks really seem to get a kick out of spending a week here and there photoshopping/gimping and suchlike, are really the sort that are most likely to be taken up by modders roaming the boards looking for something to do, I find. So great idea, but I can only wish you well undertaking the skills to do it OP, unless you can find a total conversion mod team already in progress and sign up with similar interests. Generally they're looking for more than plot/storyline developers however, just about anyone can do that. If I might suggest checking out the fanfic forums, to spend your inspiration there in a way that you can simply make good entertainment from the raw ideas that you have. I do that, being I'm a pretty rudimentary modder.
Te Darasuum Mandalor
Here's the first part of the story. Prolouge and Trouble on Bespin The game starts out with a republic capital ship engaging Mandalorian raiders above Bespin and a middle aged officer with a goatee and graying hair walk up to the character after character creation informing Him/Her of the attack and that they must get to there battle stations. (This ship's interior is just the same as the harbringer, only there are republic soldiers inside) After making it to the bridge, Mandalorian scouts appear and you and Carth have to fight your way out of the ship since the marines abandoned ship. Since the disobeyed orders, the last resort is to meat up with the captain of the New Hope, an "in cognito" Jedi and Commander of the New Hope simply known as Jaq. (If you tell him the Exile was a male, he may try and flirt with you if you are female) You, Carth, and Jaq escape the New Hope overunned with Mandies on Carth's old and battered Mandie light freighter the Ebon Hawk which he said was sent to him by T3 who is currently on Telos accompying his true master. Mandalorian fighters close in and the player must get to the turetts. They are badly damaged and after being thrown unconsious, the player wakes up in a hotel room with Carth who states they were forced to make a crash landing in a Bespin mining facility before the Hawk was impounded and they were temperarily staying in the level 4 luxury Hotel. He also gives some backround on cloud city and that it is relitively new, only a century or so old. He also states that Jaq is out scouting the city and that they have already develuped a rather negative reputation in Bespin and that they have to find the Hawk and fast and that the Hawk has some uknown sentimental value to Carth and Jaq. Carth and the Apostle find Jaq living it up in the casino and he joins the party. They inquirer at Level 1, the spacer's sector and they are told the Hawk is going to be torn apart for scrap metal soon, so, since it may be there only hope to get off of Bespin, the three go down to level 34 where they are denied an audiance with the the administrators to get permision to head down to the restricted and crime infested slums of level 89. So they decide to double cross them by hiring some exchange mercanies in the level 4 exchange hang out. While they cause trouble witht the authorities, Cart, you, and Jaq sneak into the offices and steal a pass to get down to level 89. Once down, the see how miserable it is, so asthey make it to the droppoff, they meet up with bounty hunter Kala Ordo who is also finding a way off of Bespin, so they go through the droppoff until they find the impound and they find parts in the scrapyard and escape the planet. They then attempt to fight off the Bespin heavy ships who accuse them of theft and try to enihalate them, another turett game. I'll post part two, Telos later. Edit: I kinda want to make my dream mod and a story I would want. Return to Telos The Hawk arrives on Telos to find that the Citadel station is overun with exchange thugs who think they can take over the Ithorian's project and restore Telos into there own way. The last thing Carth wants is a another Nar Shadda, so he, you, Kala, and Jaq fight through he mercs. until they reach living module 89. There, LT. Grenn is already at work and they are preparing to storm the Bimini exchange suites. After securing the living modules, LT. Grenn instructs you to check on the Ithorians, after finding all but two dead, it is up to you to find the prisoners within the exchange suites, then report to LT. Grenn in his hq near the cantina and he says he can take it from here, and he gives Carth his T3 unit to hack into his penthouse in which the security system was messed up. In there, you find Bastila who is just gazing out of her bedroom window. She is crying, and after asking her, you reconize her and ask her why she is so upset. She says she misses....someone (only if player reminds Carth that Revan was male, if not she says she has been waiting for her friend who promissed she'd return). She offers to take you down to her good friend Atris' academy if you can help her with a little problem. Over the years, Bastila has grown more attractive and has a little suitor problem. Whenever she leaves her sub-apartment within Carth's estate, she is always stalked and flirted with by this creepy Arkanian drunkard and mucisian named Nos Buruk and she asks if you can get rid of him, in a peaceful way of course, since she isn't a very violent person (she also has two nine year old children, a boy and a girl, with Revan before they left) After telling him Bastila left the station to corusaunt, he believes you and goes there. (freak) She is happy he left and she takes you down to Atris and, after finding her in the council chamber (at this time, the academy is a temple in it's own right and the temperary home of the high council. Atris informs you that Revan must be found and that to do that, the 5 Jedi knights must be tracked down and prepare to launch an attack on theith vanguard under the command of Darth Deasolus! Nobody must know of this and the mission must be done in secressy. Revan will need all the help he can get in the outer regions, so the Jedi Knights must be found, alive. Atris then informs you she will go with you, since she is one of the masters, she needs to observe your progress. Back at TCS, you ask Bastila if she wants to come with you, but she says she needs to stay there fore "personal" reasons as a young girl tugs on her robes, and Carth revs up the Hawk for takeoff. I have another cool planet idea. Rhen Var (Landing pad "Landing zone", Harbour, Citadel east, Citadel west, skyhook, catacomes, the North ice sea, The south Ice sea, The caverns. Did you even do the romance with Basti? In canon, he married her in secret before he left Yes, i did romance her, but nothing, not even Wookiepedia or the comics or the game. Suggested he married her in secret. And, how is it possible that Revan somehow is the father when he is billions of lightyears away and Bastila somehow gets pregnant the way Shmi did with Anakin? Te Darasuum Mandalor
Lets just say the force wanted them to be together. Simple as that. Revan IS there biological father though. Remember, this mod is NOT cannon. Just my dream mod. Edit: Part 3: Mandalore The first Jedi knight is on Mandalore. He is in self-imposed exile. All you know about him is that he is an orange twilek master from Dantooine. You, Carth, Jaq, Kala, T3, and Atris land at the Mandalorian outpost in the jungle where there are hostiles. These Mandalorians are a leftover battlegroup from Mandalore the Usurper's army. Afterengaging you, they are killed and you find a transport that can take you into Keldabe, the capital of Mandalore where the preserver's loyal forces are. After Navigating through the white citadel, you find Mandalore's estate. You can't go inside however because you are outsiders, so you have to prove to Mandalore that you are worthy. Your mission is to assasinate supposed usurper spies and their goons. Once all three have been desposed of, you may go inside his hall. Carth doesen't like this guy and wishes that Candrous was there to help, but then it is revealed that Mandalore is Canderous and there is a reunion. He explains that he thinks that Master Zhar is in the city, but then the sith vanguard arrives on Mandalore and it is up to you to stop them and find Zhar fast. You find him as a drunkard in the cantina and you escort him to the shuttle with Mandalore and all of you bust outa there. Mandalore joins your team. He is simple known As Canderous the Preserver. You find Zhar and, though you can't be him, he finds a place on the Ebon Hawk to plan. On the Ebon Hawk, you find a corpse of a young man who appears to be dead. His name is Ross Ben and he joins your team after you spare a few medpacks for him. Part 4: Corusaunt The Hawk Lands at the Jedi Temple only to be greeted by a strict republic deck officer who says that the temple is off limits to civilians. Atris must come with you for this, but the guard doesen't buy it. You have no choice but to leave or kill the guard. After that, you and your party must venture into the temple and dispatch more soldiers. Once you make your way through the mazes and archives of the temples, you find a cloaked Jedi Master who believes you are sith. You must duel this mysterious hermit who claims that after what happend to him, no one must be trusted. As he is beaten, Republic SWAT break into the spire and capture the Jedi Master who is illeagaly in the temple. You go back down to the temple and board the hawk and, if you talk to master Zhar, he will tell you that this master must be found, he has had a hard four years and he tells you he is a survivor of some uknown Dantooine accident four years ago. He could be talking about the bombing, but that was too long ago, so now, you must break into the senate hall and free the cloaked Jedi who turns out to be none other that Master Zek-kai-kel! Everybody is survived he is alive after Kreia's supposed "murder" of him, but it turns out he was just paralyzed temperarily. He travels with you and offers to help you find Revan. (This note is for the moderator. Sorry for any rules I may of violated and at first I didn't understand what you were talking about. Now I know what you mean! From now on I will just add on to this post. Sorry for any inconveniences)
vanir
I'd have to suggest you slow down a bit Mrcharlton and take a step back for a moment. What you have is an inspired story idea. It's really fan-fiction, not a mod. What you should do, and what it would appear you have the skills to do is write a fanfic story about it. Really, there's no point wasting your inspired imagination and after you've filled this thread in the Mod Request Forum with walls of post, what's realistically going to happen then? Is a team of programmers going to take up an unpaid three-year contract to make all this for you into a new RPG game out of a complete TSL conversion? It's not going to happen. Are you going to do one yourself? I don't think you have the skills (neither do I or many modders). So don't waste it. Put all this you've written onto Notepad and save it as a fanfic Synopsis, then write out a fictional story around it and post it in the Fanfic Forums (Corsucant Entertainment Centre), we could use some more talented fanfic writers over there. Come on over, you'd be welcome.

Azzameen
Yeah, this should be posted on fanfiction.net, not in a modding forum. ... Just... look up the Star Wars words, like Coruscant. It's not meant offensive, I just want to maximize the enjoyment for reader and writer.
Te Darasuum Mandalor
Good idea! But, in my opinion, there should be more conversion mods that just a few. The only popular ones are Brotherhood in Shaddow, The Jedi Masters, and Rvenge of Revan which is still in develupement.
Canderis
Brotherhood of shadow is not a conversion mod but a expanded storyline mod. But of you wish to ever see this done you need to learn to mod yourself.

TriggerGod
Are maps easy to create? If so can somebody tell me how to make them? No, its not easy. In fact, in this community (which includes a lot of the KOTOR modding world), there are only a handful of people who know how to and how to get it to work in game. In fact, I've only seen about 5 people do it. Its not like JA/JO where you just create it in GTK. Its much more difficult.
