Astor
I believe this will be of interest to anyone who plays either WotCs Star Wars SAGA RPG system, or plays their Star Wars Collectible Miniatures Game (or if you use those miniatures for your Roleplaying sessions). There have been several questions lately regarding the future of the Star Wars Miniatures and Roleplaying Game and until now I haven’t had definitive answers to give you. After a lengthy evaluation, Wizards of the Coast has decided not to renew the Star Wars license with Lucasfilm. We’ve had a long and fantastic run, but with the economic downturn, we have made the tough decision to discontinue our Star Wars lines. I'm a little sad to them both go, but at least they're going out on a high. And yes, I know there are some out there who still prefer WEG's D6 system, but the SAGA system is a pretty enjoyable way to spend three hours on a monday evening. Although with this announcement, i'm tempted to pick up the sourcebooks I don't have before they're out of print, and suffer the inevitable price rises because they're no longer available. Hallucination
I was thinking of trying the game out with my group after our current campaign ended. Now it's going to be out of print and I won't feel bad about downloading .pdf's of the books. I mean it's tragic.
Prime
I don't play the RPG or the minis, but from what I saw of the sourcebooks there was a lot of great universe information in there. Too bad there won't be more of those...
Astor
I was thinking of trying the game out with my group after our current campaign ended. I heartily recommend it - it's somewhat streamlined, but it still makes for some great campaigns - we've had one SW campaign running since about '05 which started with WotC's original D20 Star Wars system, but when SAGA was released we migrated and everyone in our group agrees that it's much better than Wizards' previous effort. I don't play the RPG or the minis, but from what I saw of the sourcebooks there was a lot of great universe information in there. Too bad there won't be more of those... The sourcebooks are great, and are packed with a wealth of information - the KOTOR book is especially good, and it's cover art is awesome.
LordOfTheFish
I always wanted to try those, but unfortunately I never did come around to doing it. But I'm always sad to see anything Star Wars related go, even if I barely know anything about it.
Prime
There was definitely a wealth of EU information in the RPG sourcebooks, and much of the EU originated with RPG products.
True_Avery
Been discontinued due to economic problems, but this doesn't mean someone else wont take the license or that Wizards wont buy it again when things get more stable. Just means we'll be out of new source books for a few years.
Prime
It also sounds like the licensing costs are very prohibitive.
JediAthos
I'm sure they probably are as Lucas has been known to be a little protective when it comes to who can do what with Star Wars. I'm not familiar with any of the books or minis as I haven't played any tabletop RPG in some time, but I have thought about picking up the sourcebooks in the past simply for the information. RedHawke
And yes, I know there are some out there who still prefer WEG's D6 system, *Raises hand...* but the SAGA system is a pretty enjoyable way to spend three hours on a monday evening. I'd rather go to the dentist to get a root canal than to play any of WOTC games... yes I hate WOTC that much. Good to see someone else might be able to pick up the licence. Prime
But if WotC thinks it can't make enough money with it with the large licensing fees, who else can?

You can download pdf files of the game legally from DrivethruRPG.com, along with hundreds of campaign modules for a huge number of games. I'll post the site link when I get home. @ Prime--White Wolf would probably have the resources and experience to do it. They'd take it down a much darker path, however.
