[KOTOR] Recruit Nara

Gorgod

Recommended Posts

I was working on a mod in late June called "Train Your Party", but then I abandoned it because of the lack of help. Hopefully I can get by without much help on this one. Don't get me wrong, there were some users that were fantastic helpers, although my problem was quite a difficult one, even for them. Because of that, I'm starting a somewhat easier mod. So anyways, here's some features that I'm planning for the mod. This isn't very far in development, but I'm going to need some help, so I might as well make a WIP.

  • Nara, a new party member, is a Sith Exile that you find in the cantina on Korriban. She wears a ragged and somewhat revealing Dark Jedi robe and has a custom purple twi'lek head.

  • When you first meet her, she has a burning hatred towards the sith because of her exile. She instructs you to kill three targets- one is a Sith student who is disguised as a Czerka employee. You must kill him- he is one of the main information brokers for the Sith academy on Korriban. The second target is a fierce Sith apprentice who resides in the Valley of the Dark Lords, plundering tombs and collecting artifacts for Master Uthar to examine and use. And the third target... well, that's yours to find out.

  • After you recruit Nara, she will have her own party-member specific quest as all your other companions have. She will butt in on normal conversations. She will have her own portrait and clothing. She will replace Juhani and also she has her own lightsaber and robe with special bonuses. Depending on your alignment in the end-game, she will attempt to kill you if you are light side or follow you if you are dark side (I may not do this). She is a romance option for both the male and female Revan. Her story relates to a mysterious group of Sith that go by the name of "The Dark Reapers". She is a very interesting character and hopefully she will be voiced, however if that is unavailable alien voices are fine. I am, however, looking for male voice actors for the targets.

  • I'm sure you all are assuming that Nara MUST be recruited after you kill her three assigned targets- that's totally incorrect. You can tell her that you don't want her in your party. Think of it as a Korriban expansion mod with an option of recruiting the NPC.

  • There are three quests you can do- Nara's Revenge (pre-recruitment quest), Nara (party member quest), and The Lord of Anguish (you'll learn what this is about when it is released.)

PROGRESS

Skinning/Modeling: 75%

Journal Entries: 60%, if that.

Scripting: 65% or so.

Dialogue: 50%

Weapons/Custom Items: 80%

VO's: 0%

NEEDED

Dialogue Editor (Nice to have, not needed.)

Voice Actor for Nara (Any female voice actor.)

Sounds pretty cool. It's still gonna be a whole lot of work, if you wanna do it completely with VOs, quests, ect., so I hope you have plenty of energy and time ;)!

Mods like this with quests across multiple planets tend to have difficulties with compatibility with other mods. Just good to keep that in mind from the beginning.

I don't wanna be picky, but I'd make Nara yet a bit more custom-looking. Now it looks just like a recolored standard Twi'lek. How about playing around a bit with the head-model and -texture?

Haha, I am the worst skinner you'll ever encounter. I had difficulty figuring out how to put the recolor in game... <_< And yeah, I know it'll be a lot of work. I mean, I've been working on this practically all day and I've only gotten to the first target you have to kill.

you said help what help do you want?

Scripting.

Gorgod, I could VO one of the targets for you.

Also, I know how you could spawn people into pre-existing modules. It's called an OnEnter script, a script that I very recently figured out how to master.

I want to make it so that when she says something, he spawns in another module. Not upon entry.

Thanks.

All right, but 'thanks' what? 'thanks, no need'?, 'yes thanks'? what?

(i could make you a custom robe, nothing too fancy, no model edit or anything, but a nice texture edit of a default robe, in fact, how does a twilek head works with the starforge robes, do they work or there's ugly clipping?, because i have made several texture variations for the starforge robes recently...)

It depends on extactly which model you are using. If:

Hoodless, Belt and Capeless: The Model used for the Darth Revan/Star Forge robes in the standard game. The twi'lek heads will work fine with this model.

UnMasked: This model is used for the 'Revalation' cutscene, and it has all but the mask. For this model, the lekku will clip through the hood.

Masked: The complete model. Any head wouldn't show up with this model, since it would likely be used with a disguise item.

I already have someone working on robes- sorry. Thanks for the offer, though.

Awesome work! I'm up for VOs if you want.

Thanks. I'll PM you when needed.

So anyways, everything is going great. I had a two night "vacation" at my relatives' place, so it's kind of delayed. However, I have a question about OnEnter scripts- so I know the onenter script name and all for the Valley of the Dark Lords, but when I search the file name in kotor tool, it shows me the .are file, in which I figured out the onenter script name. Does anyone have any idea why this is happening? The script is "k36_pkor_enter".

You have to go into the module that has _s at the end. In there you'll see a section called scripts. Look in there.

Oh, thanks. Do I have to decompile it? if so, how?

Edit: Nevermind. I got it. However, I do have one problem- I tried spawning an NPC conditionally in an OnEnter script, but when I enter the module, there's like 20 of him. I tried setting the boolean that must be true to spawn him to false in the OnSpawn script field in his .utc, but there's still 20 of him. What am I doing wrong?

Edit 2: Got that one as well :p.
