I made some Grim Fandango vintage travel posters

Hi,

*EDIT* Whoops, this should have gone in The Blue Casket, apologies. Could a mod help me out here? *EDIT*

I've been working on these for a while now (since before the announcement of the remastering) and thought you guys might like to check them out now they're done. It's a series of faux vintage travel posters inspired by a few of the locations in the game.

Enjoy.

Yeah those are very good. I like the El Marrow one, simple but effective. I wonder what the Year Four version would look like?!

I'm not a mod but I reckon this thread might as well stay here - this bit of the forum sees more action that The Blue Casket anyway, which isn't saying much.

Hi there,

I'm part of a small French Grim Fandango community ("small" = we're 3 on our forum ^^) and I'm currently working on a GF related project: a 3D recreation of Manny's office (taking liberties). For now, only basic modelling in the desk half of the office has been done, details and life (some storytelling in order not to end up being a furniture magazine picture) still need to be integrated before proceeding to texturing and lighting.

Here is the official thread in our forum where you can access WIP screenshots, changelogs, and discuss about the project (in case you'd like to provide some feedback, ideas, and so on):

And a preview of the last version: 1405970391-render.png

The reason why I'm posting a message here is that I recently ran into your work and think it looks amazing. I would like to know if you would allow me to make use of it in my project. Were I to complete it, you would of course be credited. I'm also open to further collaboration or resources exchange (somebody else seems to be working on a 3D Manny's office, this could be interesting).

Things are still not settled down and depend on my free time, motivation, and skills; the ideal scene I'm aiming at would show Celso's hand holding the Number 9 flyer (1st person viewpoint) while the screen on the background would display his terrible records and the fact he doesn't qualify. Therefore your travel posters would be a key aspect of the finished scene.

Here is a quick render that shows what the foreground part of Manny's table could look like using your work:

sorry for the noise and weird lighting (quick render) and the flyers proportions (my mistake, I must have mistyped the posters dimensions).

I hope you're interested. Feel free to refuse. If you don't, don't hesitate to contact me for further details (here, an other subject, by PM or in English in the forum where I hang out if not appropriate here).

Cheers.

Hi folks,

Sorry it's taken me a while to get back here to reply. Thanks for all your appreciation of the posters.

I don't have any plans to sell these as prints, primarily for copyright reasons, but there are .pdf versions available to download here (https://www.dropbox.com/s/m59fjdda3e9ke9a/Grim%20Travel%20Posters.rar?dl=0) if you have the facilities to do it yourselves.

Shad_, feel free to use the posters in your project, best of luck with it.

Cheers,

David

Thanks a lot! Will upload photos of my flat if I have made them and put them on the wall.

Fantastic, I'd love to see some photos if anyone has them printed out.

Hi! Sorry for being late with the pics, I just got back from my honeymoon. :)

I have put the posters in our hall because there is not much emply wall space in our room, and also I think these kind of travel posters kind of fit well in such a place. :) This will be the first thing anybody notices when arriving in our flat. (Well, apart from the fact that renovation of the flat is obviously still not finished... well this is a 120 years old building which has survived 2 world wars and 1 revolution during Communism, of course it is a little worn out! :D)

Anyway, here are the pics, I am really very happy about the results (they were developed in a photo shop for about 6-7 dollars a piece, and I have bought beer mat paper and done the sticking-cutting part myself).

Thank you for your work & the hi-res files again! :D Cheers!

P.S.: My girlfriend/now wife/ became curious about the pictures, thus I have told her about it, showed the sondtrack in the car, thus after this we were listening to the Grim Fandango OST all along our honeymoon, and now she can't wait for the HD version to come out - so thanks for this, too! :D
