bsbuckeye21
Before you read: download Trillian . Ok, here's what it is... The best IM program available. Why? It combines all of them! I've been using it for a while now with virtually no hitches. (I used to try Odigo, but it's AIM support was bad and didn't even include MSN!) There's quite a bit of options to tweak with (which is a good thing the more you think about it) but once you're done, you're set. Heck, this thing supports transparency of windows if you like. (That probably requires XP or 2000, though.) Dowload. Use. Be happy. Tell the world. (No, I'm not affiliated with them. )
digl
Ill check it out I rarely use something other than ICQ, but Ill give this a try the latest ICQ is pretty buggy under XP

bsbuckeye21
Verses what? Is there another program that can encorporate all programs? (That's an actual question and me not being rhetorical. )
digl
I used to try Odigo, but it's AIM support was bad and didn't even include MSN! I guess Odigo does something similar
TornSoul
I've been using trillian ever since version 0.5 (they're at 0.71 now). I'll just list a few advantages over other Instant Messengers: The most important advantage is that it connects to up to 5 different networks (AIM, ICQ, IRC, MSN and Yahoo). It does not support all the features of all the messengers yet (like voice chat), but they are still in a Beta stadium and the most used things are supported (sending/receiving messages, sending/receiving files, viewing contact details, etc... there's a full list ar trillian.cc). The program is fully skinnable, so if you don't like the way it looks you can just get or make a different skin. There are a lot of options to configure trillian. You can set your own hot-keys, sounds, actions, etc. It will take a minute to figure out how to set a particular thing if you haven't done it before, but it's not hard and you don't have to do it if you don't want to. I believe it takes less memory than the newest ICQ. Don't know about AOL, MSN and/or Yahoo. Also you don't get any banners like you do in ICQ. Darth Simpson
Oooh, nice. Although I've never, ever used anything else than ICQ, I might give this a shot. So this is why I saw you on ICQ last night bucky...

OnlyOneCanoli
I think I'm gonna try this out tonight and see how it is. I guess you still get about 15 spam messages a day from ICQ, though. :*(

Darth Simpson
You can always remove the ICQ banners, it's quite simple. Canoli, I haven't received any spam messages for a while... Hmm, wonder what happened? I used to get around 20 a day!
digl
I know you can, but you must do it before updating the DB, or you loose it, and I dont want to loose my history Or is there a safe way to remove them now?
Darth Simpson
Yeah, the new ICQ stores your database on the ICQ servers. I'll send you a link on how to do it.
Vagabond
I've been wondering about that as well. Could you post the link here, or send it to me? Thanks.
Agen
One thing though i jsut signed for ICQ # and i've had about 5 weirdos in the last 10 minutes trying to tell us how good their porn sites are.
Darth Simpson
Ok, here ya go. ICQ 2001 For instructions on how to remove banners in ICQ 2001b, go here : http://www.govital.net/~soz/adbusters/2001.html There are also a bunch of programs that will do this for you, but I'm not sure how reliable they are, or what other changes they might do to your system. Manual is the way to go. For instructions on how to remove the Auto-update feature in ICQ, go here : http://www.govital.net/~soz/adbusters/reg1.html This will help avoiding ICQ restoring your changes. ICQ 2000 There's a different procedure for older versions of ICQ. The 2000b solution(s) can found here : http://www.cponline.org/c_stuff/icq_all.shtml That's it I guess, happy ad-free ICQ'ing! Terminator, that's pretty normal, unfortunately. Add them all to your Ignore list, the messages should stop coming after a while. I haven't seen one in days. EDIT : Always remember, back up your contact list before you do any changes! The contact list is located in the C:\Icq\2001a. If you have a different version than ICQ 2001, just back up the folder with the matching name.
StephenG
i usually use msn messager cause it came with WinME and its got voice support. Also i find remembering a name easier than remembering a number. i dont even know my own phone number! i know it starts with a 9386 but thats all. OnlyOneCanoli
Wow, thanks Simspon. I'll get right to it. I tried out Trillian last night. It must have some kind of brain malfunction with Win2k, because whenever I receive a message, it appears, and then a million others appear going diagonally down and to the right. Pretty entertaining to watch. Anyway, it didn't work when I reinstalled it, so I purged it from my hd.
