After doom3 i wont settle for anything less and the game devs know this, so from here on up its gonna be a wikked ride of Graphics, technology and PURE TERROR!!

You mean Jack Lupino?...yeah that bit was pretty freaky...the nightmare bits at the beginning of each chapter freaked me out...the blood trail through the black space...scary...

It's a great game...it was voted PC game of the year last year, I'm surprised you haven't heard of it white. It's about an undercover cop, Max Payne, who is betrayed and framed in a seedy New York city setting, and you have to infiltrate a dangerous mafia crime family to solve the crime. Its a third person action/shooter with bullet time and lots of guns...highly recommended:thumbsup:

I never thought Max Payne could be scary... I played the Demo and a *ahem* another downloaded version ;) but wasn't really freaked out by the cutscenes.

The intro with the wife and baby on the bed and all wasn't that scary, I've seen similar in the movie Unbreakable (two children chained in bedroom and the wife falling over after being untied).

For me it's a tie between Silent Hill and System Shock 2.

In one game you are placed in a lifeless town filled with unknown entities and a disturbing story. And in System Shock 2, you are placed in deep space all alone in a gigantic spaceship filled with ghosts and other dangerous oddities. Having never played the first System Shock, I had no idea what to expect from it's sequal, making this game VERY scary and depressing IMHO.

- Mysteries of the Sith: I'm talking about Dromund Kaas Swamp and Sith Temple with all those Wampas/Noghris trying to shred you to pieces and Vornskrs(wolf creatures) sneaking behind corners and jumping at you(also, animated statues creeped me out first time).

- AvP & AvP2: as have been mentioned numerous times, sh** hits the fan, whenever you play as marine in place crawling with aliens(in sequel there were also few scary moments, when you find bodies hanging upside-down and either hear Predator growling near or then it suddenly appears from nowhere to take you down).

- Clive Barker's Undying: creepy atmosphere of whole mansion and environments surrounding it, and you never knew when those werewolf like creatures jumped at you, or ghosts of dead family members appeared here and there(story alone was excellent, and all those little details like the bloody bed where the mother gave birth to all the family children, made you shiver).

- Vampire the Masquerade: Redemption: once again it's the atmosphere that creeps you out mostly and I especially remember the mine from the beginning of the game where you had to go to take out vampire queen(also, London tower with all those spiders and ghosts was a memorable place).

Interestingly enough no-one has mentioned Alone in the Dark 4. I thought that had a great atmosphere, but unfortunately everything else about the game sucked. :(

The best scene though was when you are in a planet-tear-re-um, and there's some sort of old machine which you can enter dates into. I entered in a couple of dates and this ball with holes in it (sorta like a seeker droid) would turn around but nothing else would happen. On a whim I entered in today's date (the date in the game) and the ball turns around and catches the light of all the stars in the holes and sends out a blinding flash....then the 'camera' shot shows a foreign planet up close and the 'camera' is moving backwards, then another and another planet flies past and you realise it showed pluto first and is showing all the planets. By the time you see the fiery ol' sun there's all nine planets lined up nice and straight and a ghost is rubbing it's finger up and down your spine....

I talked to a guy once who said that alone in the dark 4 had a better atmosphere than Slient Hill. Unfortunately I haven't played that or AvP so I can't judge.

Halo sort of scared me a bit. For a while it wasn't scary at all, but when I first met the flood I almost wet myself. The flood spores weren't all that scary, but when I saw the zombies and the those big, poofy flood hive things... geeeh... :eyeraise: My friend had already played through the game and told me about the flood, but he only mentioned the spores, not the zombies or those things that look like the stay-puffed marshmallow man. :p I was still a little big creeped by the spores, because I was expecting something like blue spiders (don't ask why), not brownish squid thingies. But those zombies... geeeh...

Another thing that scared me in an otherwise completely non-scary game, was the attack dogs in Medal of Honor: Allied Assault. Its so disturbing to hear the scamper and bark of those German Shepherds. They do nasty amounts of damage, and they're disturbingly fast. The first mission where you see attack dogs is in Trondheim, when you scuttle that U-Boat. All the other encounters with attack dogs is at night... even scarier.

And if you think that horse thing is scary, I've seen it happen with AN ELEPHANT!   That must be like looking into hell with binoculars.
