PS2 is the best!!!

XBOX. it has all the GOOD games, and the graphics are awesome, and the load times aren't as long as PS2's. :D

I'd suggest a PS2 if u have a PS1, and want to get rid of your PS1, but not some of the games, since it's backward compatible.

check out this game http://www.bigbluebox.com also Knights of the Old Republic is coming to Xbox, and so is B.C., and Halo 2, and Metal Gear X and it's just awesome. Also, i'd wait until around christmas to get one, cause i hear they're dropping the price to $150. =) that's what i'm going to do. also, there's Xbox Live. and you can play dvds on it.

You can do almost anything you can do with a PS2 on an Xbox. it all depends on what games you like though. Why don't you just wait and get both for about $300? That's probably something i'd do if i had enough $$$, but i have no job yet, so i'm only thinking about getting the Xbox.

well i enjoy the gamecube myself (it hasnt had any problems yet though i have heard of alot of controller breakings from friends). but since the choice here is between ps2 and x-box i have to say ps2. im sorry x-box users but i have no respect for that product whatsoever. my friend owns one and its given him nothing but grief and never works right. hes exchanged it for a new one 3 times so far and still has problems.

plus i believe that sony will stick to its marketing system and come out with ps3 before the next wave of nintendo/microsoft systems. it will also likely be backwards compatible again (i havent read any info but it seems plausible as its such a good marketing ploy). and you're obviously an SW fan so you may just enjoy bounty hunter. *ps2 and GC only*.

but like always it burns down to personal preference. go with what offers you the most games that you can enjoy

or can the whole problem and upgrade your pc/buy some sweet comp games.

If you want value for money, I'd get an XBOX, since the PS2 is well into it's product life cycle. That is the reason for the look of the better games on the PS2 - they have worked out how to program for it properly.

For ease of online gaming - XBOX has an inbuilt ethernet card, so depending on your network knowhow, it can be online by just plugging in the cable modem connection.

In general, the games on the XBOX are a lot better looking than their PS2 counterparts, since the system is able to produce better graphics. The PS2 has a few games that look awesome, but it took them 2 or more years to work out how to do that with the system. The FF games take advantage of the DVD quality screen rendering in their cut scenes to make it look as good as it does. It's kind of cheating to use a better piece of circuitry to make the game look better.

I disagree that it's nearing the end of its cycle, It is by far the best selling console in the Store I work in (Woolworths - 800 stores in the UK).

It has the widest variety of games and its price has just been slashed, Graphics are still being improved with every game, it rocks.

Devil May Cry,

Metal Gear Solid 2,

Silent Hill 2 + 3,

are my favourites, but there are hundreds available.

XBOX has struggled to gain a foothold, and new game releases are slowing up gradually, Great games available for it are few and far between IMO, please dont qoute or flame me here, its just my recommendation :D

Another advantage to Xbox is you don't have to buy as many accesories as Ps2. I comes standard with 4 ports to play multiplayer games.......Ps2 doesn't.

I used to have a Ps2 and now I have Xbox........I made a wise decision.

One other thing, Ps2 may have more games, but Xbox is a new system so it's still puttin' out the new ones!!

Bilbo,

Are the games getting better graphics, or has everyone worked out how FF and GT have made theirs look so good on the PS2 hardware? Or is it that they are actually a lot better looking than their predecessors?

Everyone knows a system that is out for about 2 years longer than it's competitor is going to have an extremely larger games catalogue, and have the availabilty to do large price drops for older games.

Comparing like for like, the XBOX has beaten the PS2 to every major milestone so far, from launch. The XBOX was never going to immediately compete against the sheer numbers of the PS2 - which had relatively weak competition in it's market sector. (Nintendo is in general aimed for more of an anime looking game)

Well BCanr2d2, despite this implication, it does not justify that XBOX is a better console, for the soul reason that it isn't. If you can remember way back to late 2001/early 2002 you should remember that the sales for the launch of the XBOX were shameful and abismal...worse in Japan than anywhere else, and it was still awful in the UK...and the funny thing was that XBOX was without any competition...PS2 had already been out for 1 1/2 years, and Gamecube was yet to be release, and yet XBOX fell below it's expected sales horrifically. I think that says something about the opinion's of people worldwide.

And also, are we still thinking that graphics are what make a game, as you are speaking as if it is the only important aspect. The advancement and seemingly magnificance of the XBOX's titles pale in comparison to the sheer enjoyablity and playability of PS2 games.

edit - and i honour of the upcoming Devil May Cry 2, I have featured the amazing Dante in my avatar:D

Darklighter,

There are different perspectives to what happened with the XBOX launch....

On one hand it didn't meet MS's projections by quite large margins, BUT in the same period of the PS2's product cycle, it has beaten it to every major milestone. That is saying more people took up the XBOX quicker than the PS2, and the PS2 had the PSX to draw it's user base from. Just because MS expected a larger take up of the console, it doesn't say that the XBOX isn't doing well.

So, on your theory, the SOLE reason for the PS2 is the larger the sales, the better the product? Not in every case is this the truth, VCRs - the better format was BETA, but VHS won due to having the numbers in stock at the right time..

You want ambush marketing, then advertise the PS2 version of Moto GP, a game released before Dorna renamed the top motorbike road racing category to Moto GP, and make it half the price of the XBOX version. An easy way to try and convince the "same", only in name, game on a different console is a lot cheaper.....

I think in many of the cases of new XBOX games just being eye candy, there are probably plenty of them, but that isn't the consoles fault, that is the developers. They are probably not used to developing for the XBOX yet, so have spent a lot of time on graphics, and not gameplay.

If you asked the average Joe, and not the gamer nut, if they knew of consoles, they would probably know the XBOX for Halo, and probably the PS2 for the Gran Tourismo series, and any Nintendo system for Mario.

One factor, which does it for me, is that the XBOX is a close cousin to a PC on Windows. That allows for easy portability of games for developers, obviously cheaper, almost a cash source for nothing, in the long term.

There is online gaming, but that is yet to be launched properly on the XBOX, and not a real option on the PS2, a modem and hard disk are required to be placed into the PS2 to make it online. An XBOX just plugs into a broadband connection, and for those who have used XBConnect, it is on a network, easily controlled by a PC to find online games....

There are always those that are going to be pro PS2 and pro XBOX, no matter what. I am pro XBOX, since I just can't think that something less technically advanced, and older, is the better buy.

well, thanks for the information. thats not the only reason however. i greatly prefer PS2 games to XBOX ones. yes, XBOX does have a bunch of really good games, but PS2's selection is much better, and it has a bunch of titles i really like that are not coming out for XBOX. but thank you so much for the info.
