i love fight club and i seen it many times but there's something i don't get and i would like to hear your views.

the question is when Jack (norton) discovers the van with the bomb he disarms it, but then tyler (pitt) kicks Jack out of the van, and tries to arm the bomb but it looks he fails but then he snaps the key off in the lock, so did he it arm it or not? and if he did does that mean the building they are in blows up as well? or are they in a different building?

Another question: How in the hell did he manage to drag himself along the floor? I don't think this is possible even for a schizophrenic!

yeah so do i, but why did tyler snap the key off? unless it's a mistake.

to answer your question, you can see his legs moving, like his crawling

Well, you have to remember that the whole film is through Jack's (Norton's) eyes. We see everything happening from his perspective. So maybe if we were there watching him, we would see something different happening to what was happening to him in his mind. The mind of a schizophrenic can't be so plain and simple...

And yes, Jack did disarm the bomb, and the bomb was never reactivated.

It doesn't matter who's perspective we see it from, what he did was impossible. Watch the bit I'm talking about very carefully next time you watch the film and you will see what I mean.

He didnt break the key off, in jacks mind he did, but Jack had already REALLY disarmed it, so it didnt blow.

As for the legs moving as he was dragged, obviously he was not really dragged, so he was probably moving along the floor on all fours, but because we see it through his perspective it appears as if he was being pulled by tyler, so this is how he thinks he is being dragged.

I love the film, one of my all time top favourites.

leXX's rules of The Swamp

First rule of The Swamp is you do not talk about The Swamp.

Second rule of The Swamp is YOU DO NOT TALK ABOUT THE SWAMP!

Third rule of The Swamp, someone yells stop, goes limp, taps out, the fight is over.

Forth rule only two guys/gals to a fight,

Fifth rule: one fight at a time, fellas.

Sixth rule: no shirts no shoes.

Seventh rule: Fights will go on as long as they have to.

And the eighth and final rule: If this is your first night at The Swamp, you have to fight.

About Norton dragging himself:

Well, when we see Tyler, it's viewed Jack's POV. But in that specific scene, the camera looks through a security camera of the parking lot, showing Jack dragging himself. This means that it is not viewed from POV, but rather, a security camera's or the "real world's" view.

What Jack did is physically impossible, it's like grabbing your hair and lifting yourself up 2 feet in the air, with nothing to support you - I guess they simply added it for sheer cool factor and cinematic eye candy.

i loved fightclub but im not really an expert on the subject. ill ask my brother, hes done alot of fightclub related things, not the bad sort but hes read every chuck palahniuk (author of fightclub) book out there and has done many studies into the movie.

i remember his drama performance he actually listed all the rules, and suited actions to words. when it came time to take off his shirt and shoes he threw them at the teacher *luckily the teacher thought it was clever and didnt deduct marks* he then did a few perfectly memorized speeches of durdens and in the end beat the crap out of himself. hes a pretty buff guy and has been doing alot of martial arts for the past 8 years, anybody who knows him wont try and fight him.

after he was done he walked right out of the class and into the smoking section where he smoked a few cigs and bandaged up his self inflicted wounds. leaving the clapping classmates and stunned teacher inside.

he got a 97% and a reprimand from my mom whos also a teacher at that school for beating the crap out of himself.

The reason to breaking the key would be to not allow someone to unlock the door and get back in there and disarm it.........

As for the different perspectives, when is it Tyler that is the "real" person, and when is it Jack? We may have only one person, Jack, but sometimes it is also Jack looking at himself, but actually sees Tyler doing things - IE Jack is looking on the portrayal of Tyler - his alter ego psyche, as if it was another person, and not himself doing it....... IE Holding Raymond at gunpoint - Tyler is the real person, and Jack is the alter ego talking to him....

A bit hard to follow as to when who is the actual person, and which one is the projected psyche. Not until you watch it a couple of times, do you really work out who is actually the person, and who is the "pretend" person in the scene.

Anyone also spot all the random Tylers inserted for a frame or two, a homage to Tyler's job as a cinema projectionist who spliced pieces of "blue" movies into the movies....

I can only remember seeing 2-3 of them, anyone know all of them?

Where do you guys get the name JACK from. Norton's character has no name. Its never even mentioned. In the book and in the movie not once does somebody refer him to ask Jack. He remains namless. If you think that part where he sais: I am Jack's liver and etc. He's just reading descriptions found in a book, not a book he wrote, thus eliminating Jack as his name. Also, in the credits it doesn't say Edward Norton's character is Jack, it says: Narator.

I'm pretty sure there are more then that. I'd say about 6. I know specificly when Norton runs after the girl (after their first confrontation at the Ananymous meatings) But the rest is a blur. however I remember counting more then 4

well on the back of the DVD case, it says jack. in the special features he is referred to as Jack, by eveyone, either fincher.

in the titles he is referred to as the narrator so you're right, Jack isn't his name but easier to referred to him as Jack
