Games to movies

I agree with Darth Groovy. Of all the movies I've seen that were based on a game, I would have to this is my personal vav: NONE OF THEM!!

Is it just my imagination or is it getting harder and harder to see an "ORIGINAL" movie that ISN'T a re-make. The only movie I ever wanted to be re-made is H.G. Wells' "War of the Worlds." And I would like to see follow the original novel ie: Have it set in England where it is supposed to be! Not in America! (No isult intended to those of the American persuasion).

Allright Slayne, old son, calm down........

Easy. You have no freedom. You don't develop your character - it's all cut out for you. Do you choose between good, neutral and evil? Do you choose if you want to kill that guy over there?

The character's development is completely at the developer's will.

You can't even pick your character's name or gender :(

That's not to say that they aren't good games. They're just adventure games. Not RPG's.

Thanx for reminding me!

Metroid Fusion (anyone that owns a GBA get this game!!) would make a great movie. The plot is great and mysterious and has a surprising ending. How cool is the plot? Can't get any cooler then fighting the ultimate enemy....YOURSELF

(Dramatic music)

Yea, well I'm done...Metroid Fusion is great!:)

He's only saying that he thinks every game turned into a movie has so far only sucked - is that flaming, a slur or immature?

Am I gonna get flamed for saying I think the Final Fantasy games aren't really RPG's?

Sorry Dude - forget to put in smilies again (really been laxy on that recently...)

Meant in fun way - not serious flaming. :D

I DO think that FF:TSW got unfairly nailed, but I am not nailing FD. Groovy over it - just meant as joke! :D

But you WOULD get flamed for saying their NOT RPG games - that is something else.

Im taking Rogue Nine's wing on this.

A RPG is a Role Playing Game.

In FF7, you ARE playing the role of some-else.

Just because you cannot enhance or evolove your character to the same extent does not make it bad.

You get a more involved and better scripted storyline, and still get to make what you want of them - medic, swordsman, ranged expert etc.

It is the ligter end of the specrum, just like D&D is the heavier end of the Spectrum.

'You see, many of the things we cling too depend on our own point of view'

Not PERFECTLY quoted ( ), but you get the point...

Trust me, D&D is mindless hack 'n slash. It's very close to not even being a true RPG. When you called it the heavier end of the spectrum, it made me giggle.

Yes, you are playing the role of someone else. But you did so in DooM (nameless marine) and equally so in Half-life. You are "role-playing" in hitman as well, yet that is not called an RPG.

Would you call Diablo an RPG, or action game? Remember, it has statistics, classes and experience points.

D&D is STILL an RPG.

Diablo is also, but again - lighter version focusing on more rewarding and instantaneous action.

I cant be bothered w/ semantic based arguements - its CHRISTMAS (que Slade track - YOU know which one... :D )

Anyway! - HEH - IM not the fool that called the genre RPG in the first place!

The Sim's would be a freaking wierd ass movie lol...

All seriousness aside I would always dream of seeing a Diablo 2:LOD movie made. That game would be an simple translation, and could easily be added on I think it would be great action.

Or even better a Castlevania style game (Symphony of the Night to be exact, that game pwns). I'd love to see a movie where Vampires are the good guys, hehehe.

Oh and also the Grand Theft Auto dynasty is blossoming nicely that would, make a great game to movie transition The voice acting and plotlines IN-Game are fantastic (for Vice City and GTA3). So I don't see why a live-action movie, wouldn't work I believe.

Half Life - Arguably the greatest game ever made, this is the one to develop into a movie.

Hitman 47 - I just love the ambiance of these games... and what's better, the games come standard with a full orchestral movie score! Woot.

End of Discussion

(FF:TSW was the best ever! I thought the movie would turn out liek the games; all convoluted and spend most of the film talking endlessly about minutae liek Japanese games and films are wont to do. But I was pleasently surprised when it had a very engaging storyline, NO magic, and a minimal amount of Japanese culture bogging it down. I own the special edition DVD... one of my favourite movies.)

Wow, I thought that movie was beautiful eye candy, definitly one of the best computer animations I have ever seen to that date, but the lack of story line made me dislike it.

Granted teh storyline wasn't perfect ("What have I done!?!", Steve Buschemi)... but it was pretty original... at least to us Americans. Granted it was a great deal Eye candy... but the plot was just... well, I thouroughly enjoyed it. not to mention the Soundtrack, my GOD Elliot Goldenthal is the greatest. I'm so thankful that they paid that man enough to do that film... they could have just gotten some stock FF composer to come in and ruin the whole atmopsphere.

Sorry for hijacking the thread... but I thought it was a grand film. It deserves a little more appreciation, IMO, than it has recieved.

Warcraft. it would be incredibly hard to do but i think it would rock (all 12 movies it would take to put together the plot hehe)

Diablo/Diablo2. its made for a movie. just insert special effects and get some decent actors and its on.

and finally:........... KIRBY! sorry but i love that puffball and i think he rocks.
