I don't even really celebrate Christmas, but this year I got:

Windows XP Professional

Roxio EZ-CD Creator 5 Platnium

An alarm clock that syncronizes with the national atomic clock, so you never have to set it.

A new cable modem (Well... I was due for this. The cable company sent it since my old modem won't work with the service updates they're doing, but since it came just after Christmas, it kinda seemed like a gift. It's noticeably faster. That's a good thing.)

And I'm going to buy myself a LAN hub and a buncha CAT5 next week to get all the comps in the house on broadband.

*Wonders if he should go off on a rant about the evils of piracy... decides not to,.. for now...*

First: I didn't buy it, my family did. I was actually OK with WinME.

Second: I would no more install a "cracked" OS on my computer than I would randomly poke a large screwdriver around in the innards of my PC.

Third: I really LIKE owning fully registered versions of software. On a disk. With a book. In a box. I think it's cool.

See: My first PC was cobbled together by a friend of some guy my mom worked with in his garage. He installed all the software from his copies. When I got the computer, it had no disks with it. So the first time Windows 95 went down, I called him up to ask him to come and reinstall the OS. "Sorry. Good luck, though." I had to go out and buy Windows at that point. Then I had none of the hardware drivers I needed after reinstalling. No apps of any kind either. I was not happy.

Since then I have made sure I have had at least a full version of Windows around, if nothing else.

Hmmm... lucky you.

I do have a family member (my first cousin's husband) who works at Macromedia. He's hooked me up with quite a few things.

Plus, we sometimes get product reps doing demos at the concert hall where I work. I've gotten a few things that way (Full versions of Reason 2.0 and Live 1.5. Both are music sampling and sequencing software.)
