IF us atheists are RIGHT, when we die, we wont know

If we're wrong, we'll know about it, and life a fiery painful eternity.

If christians are right, they live in happyness and crap with their 'god'

If they're wrong, and there is no god, then they never know.

Meh, that's just the Christian view. Consider if the Hindu caste religion is really the right one. Christians are gonna fry for that.

And even if the Christian belief system is the correct one out of 39, I still get to atone and be allowed to enter paradise when I meet God. However, I think I'd rather just spend my little time with him asking silly, tricky question.

Fact is, us atheists get to spend all our lives making fun at religions because they most likely serve the wrong incarnation of God. Or, they're just talking to themselves all the time, which seems more sensible.

I love this prospect.

I'm not Christian. I'm Muslim. I'm cool with my religino though. Yeah, I believe in Jesus, but not as the son of God or something like that. Muslims believe Jesus was a prophet and we believe that he'll come back on the Day of Judgement. (Bet a lot of you didnt know that ;) )

I think you should believe whatever you want to believe, nobody is gonig to stop you from believing what you believe.

'we will make them in our image' is the exact quote when 'God' decides to make man. Who are WE? who exactly is he refering to when he says OUR? Angels? thats to contradictatory. angels are not mentioned until far after Genisis. does this mean that 'God' is psychologically ill? or does it mean the guy who wrote the 'Word of God' was a damn drunkard who didnt pay heed to what the **** he was writing? personally, i wouldnt wanna backtrack through the whole bible to re-read Genisis after i learn about angels. and dont give me 'its common sense' bs because it isnt! a child learning the bible knows nothing of god or his angels so how does he know?

seen all those Genisis things and i thought i'd toss that in...

The 'We' in Genesis are: God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit.

Read this. Thoroughly.

Read every subsection. Read every last paragraph of it. Gorge yourself on every little letter and punctuation.

If you still take the Bible as fact, after doing exactly this, you're free to go - with a label on your back. Don't worry, you'll never be able to read the label yourself, but everyone will easily spot it.

I read it. I still take the WHOLE Bible as fact. I do agree that some parts are metaphorical, but I believe the creation story. The people that wrote the Bible never saw some things that exist today. They would interpret things differently than us. For example: In Revelations John says he saw the stars rain down from the heavens. It could have been asteroids or even nukes. He saw into the future, he wouldn’t understand everything he saw. You have to remember that they wrote the Bible a long time ago.

I feel sorry for the poor box people who don’t believe in anything. They have nothing to look forward to when they get out of the box.

Sorry, I must have somehow been under the impression this was a thread about christianity

But you're right. All these religions consider themself correct. I find it more likely that they're all wrong, rather than just 1 being right.

Personally, I think that knowing I have nothing to look forward outside of this box makes me all the more appreciate of my box time. I cherish every day I'm here... and I shall continue to do so.... I don't know about you, but I quite enjoy this Box, and I'm not ready to leave.

Metaphorical facts can't exist. So you take the Genesis for historical fact, or "metaphorical fact"? It is neither, as that site proved. I doubt you read the whole thing, especially not the part about The whole silly flood story.

Fact is what you can sense and measure. God does not fall into of those categories no matter how much you scream and yell. The Bible can only be taken as fact by those who have perverted the word "fact" to suit their beliefs. You can't do that, it doesn't work that way.

It could have been asteroids or even nukes. He saw into the future, he wouldn’t understand everything he saw.

How do you know he saw into the future? If your answer, surprisingly, is going to be "The Bible", that only renders your beliefs as weak as those of Satanists and Indian shamanistic religion. It means your words hold as much truth as whatever everyone else decides it to be. I can write whatever dogmas I want to, and they'd be just as factually true as those of the Bible's.

This is why we should stick with what's fact, instead of deluding ourselves into believing otherwise.

I feel sorry for the poor box people who don’t believe in anything. They have nothing to look forward to when they get out of the box.

Yet they know they're on the safe side of things. They cannot be proven wrong, because the only true answer in that case is that you cannot know if the lamp is on or off.

I'm sorry to say this, but fact is, death is The End (tm). Just as it's fact and not belief that proves the earth is not flat, we can see that since our brain is our consciousness (and nothing has proved otherwise so far), when we die, we die. Sure, if you want to believe otherwise go ahead, because it obviously makes you feel good about death. Just as I can delude myself into believing everyone around me in reality has good intentions, you can believe whatever you want as long as you don't hurt other people physically or mentally. But be prepared for people like me to tell you that your beliefs aren't fact, that they're not correct. But I'm sure that won't stop you.

It takes a strong heart to not believe in anything according to you, as it means you can't delude yourself into believing the world behaves the way you want, so you can feel good about yourself.

But, I have an open mind really. But not so open as to start seeing things which aren't, to persons outside my mind. That's called illusions. I'm willing to believe in a God if I see some proof of him. But so far, everything I've read and sensed hasn't been proof to me, or other normal box-folk.

I'm actually getting quite interested in seeing how Christians go about preaching their truth to non-believers. Other than the standard spoon feeding practiced on persons at the infant stage seen nowadays.

Sorry, I must have somehow been under the impression this was a thread about christianity

I viewed this debate more as "What is your belief system?" rather than restricting it to Christians. Sorry if I broke some rules along the way ;)

How religious of you... Seriously, you take joy in the idea that people might burn in hell for not believing in god. As I understand it, though, even god mourns people like that. It doesnt make him happy to see some of his people cast away from the flock. It hurts him, badly. After all, he's much like a parent. No parent wants to have to send their child away forever...

So why's it make you so happy?

Perhaps we have difrent interpretions of the bible, or do you even read it?

I was raised catholic. Roman Catholic, actually. I know enough to know that god mourns the loss of people who turn away. Or perhaps you would like me to believe that god is an angry, vengeful, eternally pissed off god who damns to hell all those who dont worship him, even if they never even knew of his existance.

If thats the god you expect me to worship, then **** that. Thats a god guilty of his own mortal sins. (vanity, pride, probably others...)

Of course, I dont think that thats the god that exists (and I do lean towards the existance of A god). Thats too illogical a personality for an all-powerful being to hold...

Jesus was sent from heaven to earth by God to deliver us from hell, all we have to do is believe in Him and believe that our sins are forgiven, and we go to heaven when we die.
